Upon arrival at the cottage on a cold March afternoon we expected the cottage to be warm and welcoming, instead it was absolutely freezing!
The heating had been turned off and the thermostat was only set to 13 degrees! It made our arrival very disappointing after having travelled over 4 hrs to reach it! We immediately turned the heating on and reset the thermostat to 22 degrees. It however took the cottage well over 24 hours to reach a reasonable temperature and we had to eat our first meal in front of the open log burner on our laps with our coats on! So fair to say not a good start to our holiday and what made it worse is that it was a surprise holiday for my husbands birthday. We contacted the owners who apologised that the heating should of been left on for us as the cottage had not been occupied for a few weeks beforehand. It didn't help that the sitting room had no door into the dining room (which remained too cold throughout our holiday to use) so when we ate any meals at the cottage it had to be on our laps in the sitting room! We managed to make a makeshift curtain door using a broom balanced on a chair with a bungy attached to the stairs and the sitting room did manage to maintain its warmth a bit better after that. However, on a more positive note the kitchen equipment and goods were of an extremely high standard probably the best I have ever come across which helped to make up for the cold cottage. So yes I would recommend this property but not perhaps during the winter months!

The location of Putham Barn is perfect for those who love peace and quiet whilst only being a short walk to the local pub which serves great food. (Take a torch if walking there in the dark) The barn itself is beautifully situated at the end of a lane with a small terrace at the back but plenty of space to sit outside the conservatory doors to catch the late afternoon sun and admire the view. Inside it is compact and very clean and well equipped. The bathroom has a great shower and is a good size. The living room is cosy with a day bed and chairs and a TV. The mezzanine bedroom is bright and airy with space and enough storage for clothes. Mary, the owner, is very friendly and helpful and goes above and beyond to help. Also she is very knowledgeable about places to walk and visit. I'm sure I will be returning as it was a very relaxing stay.

The barn itself was well located, easy to find using the clear instructions. Mary our host could not do enough for us. We came a long way. Just over 6hr drive, we were early by just under half hour but Mary said to us to make a cuppa & to sit and wait in the garden room with a cuppa overlooking the views whilst she finished off in the barn preparing for our arrival. Despite myself being a disabled amputee. The stairs to bedroom were manageable. As were the few steps down to the kitchen. It was warm and welcoming as was our host. There were some nice treats too, including tea and milk. Definitely be coming back again in the summer of 2020

We have stayed in quite a few of your listed cottages especially ones on Farms, all have been of a very high standard regarding comfort and furnishings.
We think this cottage is in need of an upgrade the cooker although in good working order is very old, the furniture in the lounge is not comfortable to sit on of an evening after being out all day especially for an older person as backs are so low. The hot water went off the owners had forgotten to mention that we needed to press a button in order to reset it as it seems to have a problem. At all other properties we have stayed there has been a welcome starter pack, i.e. tea, coffee, milk even biscuits and treats I had rad the reviews before booking and several said it was nice to arrive and find a tray + eggs on arrival, so we did not take those things, however, we had a jug of milk in the fridge and some pieces of flapjack. I do think that a welcome pack is a good idea so you don't have to go out after a long journey to get the essentials. So we were a bit disappointed that we paid the same or similar price for this property but it was not up to the high standard we had come to expect from Sykes.

Fantastic location, went down the hill to Wheddon Cross and took a different direction every day. Each direction was a delight. Cleanliness of the barn wasn't great and we spent a while removing cobwebs full of flies and hoovering. I'd also recommend a blind for the bathroom as although the barn is certainly wonderfully remote, it isn't deserted and several dog walkers and the local farmer regularly walks past! Gifts of milk, eggs and marmalade were a nice touch. Sitting watching deer in the garden room was a wonderful end to each day. The Rest and Be Thankful pub at the bottom of the lane does great food.
