What our customers say about their holidays

    • Stuart - Verified booking

The house was larger than expected, a good size two bedroom terrace, a reasonable size front room and a nice up to date kitchen diner, there is a small dining room to the side of the kitchen but did not need to use due to breakfast bar.

The main bedroom is a good size with a large king size bed that was comfy. The bathroom is also a reasonable size with a good shower and full size bath, nice hot water on demand. The location is as stated, and if you have dogs there is a nice walk around the museum grounds/wood that is just 2 minutes up the road, longer walks are just a 5 minute walk away down the road and across from the front of the museum, the town centre is a 5 minute walk with plenty of shops and cafes, a bit lacking in pubs with only one that we really liked(The three horse shoes) it was nice and clean and modern but the food choice was lacking. On arrival at Stang View there was a nice touch as others have said, with milk, cheese, eggs, bread and a bottle of red wine! We can vouch for the heating working as we were cooked in the middle of the night as someone had set a heating schedule to come on at 25 degrees! So just check no one has set a scheduling the heating control! The only slight niggles with the accommodation was it would have been nice to have black out curtains in the bedroom as it was quite light in the morning ( we like a sleep in!) also the large frying pan would not work with the induction hob, and a bigger kitchen bin as we had to empty it all the time, these are really minor things and we had a lovely stay and would stay again.

We have just returned from a lovely week staying in Stang View - our second this year.

It's perfect for three of us - comfortable and very easy to look after - and the welcome pack of essentials (including bread, butter, milk, eggs and cookies) was very much appreciated. The location is brilliant - within easy walking distance of town centre shops and supermarkets. Despite the cold weather we were very comfy reading in front of the log fire but did venture out for walks in the Deepdale Nature Reserve and from Bowlees Visitor Centre. We also took advantage of our annual passes to revisit the Bowes Museum (purchased in April as they were cheaper than day tickets). We mostly dined at home as few of the pubs offer evening meals during the week and the kitchens close early (at least early for us!) but we did enjoy a very good meal at the Capri Italian restaurant (five minutes walk away on Newgate) and takeaways from the Barnard Castle Fisheries and Babul's (both on the Horse Market) were excellent. We're looking forward to our next visit!

      Lovely apartment and great location.

We enjoyed exploring Barnard Castle and nice hikes in the surrounding area. Apartment was very clean & comfortable and had good facilities (pans, tea towels, etc.). In particular, nice river view and we enjoyed listening to the sound of the river. Didn't really notice the road noise that other reviewers mentioned. The view down to the cellar from the lounge is cool (you can get down there too)! The main issue was the poor internet. Smart TV and the Alexa device were effectively non-functional as a result. Don't come here if you want to be able to watch your favourite series or a movie in the evening, or come prepared with them pre-downloaded. We resorted to using our own mobile data to download things, but some networks won't have signal at the apartment (EE did but Vodafone didn't). Would not come here if expecting to do any remote working. If the owner upgrades the broadband then we could happily recommend others staying here.

      We had a lovely stay.

It's in a beautiful village very quiet..... when we arrived the cottage was very chilly no hamper which I thought was unusual with it been a New Year stay .. the fridge/freezer was very small we had to leave our drink for our 4 nt stay outside luckily it was cold with been 4mile from shops I did take food with me but did struggle to fit what needed to go in the freezer compartment .. I read on the reviews that the couch was very low and I agree there was a lot of throws covering it and got very messy forever straightening them up and floor was lifting in many areas ... bedrooms and bathrooms were very tastefully done and the view of the castle from the 2nd bedroom was spectacular .... it may sound very negative but there was many positives it was a cosy cottage once we got the burner going .. the kitchen and bathrooms where very clean and beds very comfortable overall it was a lovely stay with my in laws making memories.

An absolutely lovely property, well kept, clean and with everything you could need for a stay in Barnard Castle.

We felt completely at home during our week’s trip, cosy in the living room on an evening and slept peacefully in the large comfy bed. One small suggestion would be to add a shelf to the shower cubicle for toiletries, but we managed. Water pressure in the shower is exceptional (for those like me who find a low pressure shower enough to ruin a whole trip!). Our hosts had thought of everything; the information pack was crammed with great ideas for local walks, restaurants and takeaways (we highly recommend Capri!) and all the how-to guides for the kitchen etc. And the milk, bread, wine and cookies were a wonderful welcome surprise to find on our arrival. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we made some fantastic memories celebrating my husband’s 40th birthday, and we will definitely be back in the future!
