My family used to have caravans in Southerness for 20+ years in the Lighthouse Leisure site so spent my childhood there every weekend and holidays, lots of happy memories, but when my dad became terminal gave van up so hadn't been back for 20 years.

I was shocked at how close the vans are in all the sites now, far too close. After being housebound for 3 years after breaking my back and covid lockdown living alone I really needed to get back out into the world but my confidence took a humdinger of a battering so I thought go back to Southerness but I wanted a peace and quiet too so not in a caravan in a busy noisy site so thought a private cottage and came across Sykes where I chose Wigwam because I knew the family had good taste because they've got 2 of the same pictures I have lol The Sykes internet booking experience I admit I had trouble with trying to pay for it because the part that sends you to your bank site to acknowledge you're paying they send you a code to type in then continue on to finalise but instead kept taking me back to start of booking process and after 6 times I gave up but unfortunately staff aren't allowed to take over the phone payments so had to wait until I was on another device for it to go through. The Wigwam itself is an amazing place with beautiful decor throughout every bit reminding you that you are on holiday by the sea. The views overlooking the beach from the 'a little sand between your toes takes away your woes' bedroom (sure as heck does btw) and the single bedroom and the whole of the living room windows look out onto the beach and the 2nd double bedroom even although overlooking the back of the site complex it was still quiet. Wigwam has all mod cons kitchen, dining area and living area, bedrooms and bathroom which admittedly I was a bit worried about with my mobility issues walk with crutches, have a wetroom and seat at home, but I still managed in and out of bath holding on to sink and towel rails. Overall an exceptional home, holiday which brought back plenty of happy memories and aye a wee bit teary bits too from start on the bus going turning into the Southerness road knowing all the times we went down 'the tickly hill' (kind of big dipper tickly tummy feeling like you get on the big dipper when dad put foot down on that bit for 20 years lol) but first time dad not there. I'll definitely be back.

This was the most relaxing break my family and I have had in quite some time.

The accommodation was wonderful, very clean with everything we could need to make our stay special. The hosts made us feel so welcome and even left a welcome pack which was very much appreciated. The location is literally a stones throw from the beach and you can see the sea whilst your relaxing from the house. The garden is beautiful with lots of seating in various parts so you can take advantage of the nice weather as the sun moves around (it is also great for dogs being fenced all the way around) There are many historical places to visit close by such as John Paul Jones birthplace and Sweetheart Abbey or even if you drive further out such as the lighthouse at Mull of Galloway or Port Patrick. On our last night we had a meal at the Steamboat Inn which is a 10 minute drive away, both the food and service were excellent. There is something for everyone here….we can highly recommend Sandpiper and hope to return again soon….

      Well where do I begin!

What a gem of a place! A fabulous house in beautiful surroundings. It was just the attention to detail that made it so welcoming. On entering the house the first thing I noticed was the beautiful aroma, then as I entered each room, I was left dumb founded. All the rooms look even better than the lovely photos on line already. Each room beautifully decorated and with gorgeous bed linen. The wee touches just made the house so cozy, from the hurricane lamps with the faux candles to the beautiful scene at night when the solar lights came on.There is everything here that you may need to have a lovely holiday. Another lovely touch by the owners was a fabulous hamper which was completely unexpected. They even contacted us in advance to give us their details, in case we got lost .I cannot commend this place enough, we all had a fabulous time in this beautiful home making lovely family memories.

Amazing week at sandpiper cottage, despite the stormy weather.

Sandpiper was like a home from home. From the minute we arrived we felt relaxed and the welcome package was a lovely touch. We were a family of 2 adults, 1 teenager and 1 very well behaved cat, Oreo. The garden was amazing with lots of seating options. The cottage had everything you could need and was very clean and tidy. We all had our favourite spots in either the living room or the sun room. The local pubs and cafes were also very welcoming to all of us, including Oreo. We enjoyed evening beach walks and also visiting the lighthouse. Nearby dumfries was around 30 minutes away for a full shop but local shops in the village were good for basics such as milk etc. Thank you for such a lovely homely holiday experience and hopefully we left it in the same clean and tidy condition we found it in. Will definitely recommend to others.

      Wow! What can I say?

I don't have enough words to express how much praise this property deserves. I booked this holiday as a last minute treat for my husband and myself, my daughter and our two grandchildren aged 7 and 11. I did not know the area nor had I read any reviews before booking. The Wigwam was beyond any expectations. Absolutely immaculate inside with everything you could possibly want, very quiet and peaceful yet only a few yards from the beach. There is also a large enclosed garden which allowed us to eat outside without being overlooked. Lots of places to visit to suit all ages and all within a short drive. This is the best place I have stayed for many a year and would return in a heartbeat.
