What our customers say about their holidays

    • Bethan - Verified booking

A fabulous lodge in a beautiful spot.

After a very long journey from South Wales, arriving at the beautifully clean, well-equipped Lodge was a relief and the wonderful hot tub helped us to relax immediately and the get the holiday started!! The welcome package was a lovely surprise too and much appreciated. The high quality smart TV and hot tub were lovely little luxuries whilst all the necessities were met with clean rooms, clean bedding and towels, iron and board, plenty of storage and a well- equipped kitchen. We stayed for a week and the owners were extremely responsive. They could be seen on site and any questions were answered very quickly via phone and/or text - very helpful and friendly. Runswick Bay is a beautiful spot. The beautiful beach was only a short walk away but for those with any accessibility should be aware that the hill to the beach is extremely steep. But there is a car park at the bottom of the hill if you need it. The beach and village is well worth a visit and the climb! The lodge is very well placed for trips to Staithes, Sandsend, Whitby and further afield. The local buses travelled to these places regularly and the bus stops are right outside the site. If you enjoy walking, the coastal path is pretty much on your doorstep and well worth a trek for beautiful views. We day tripped to York by train which I would highly recommend, rather than driving! We drove to Yarm Station, about 30 mins away, and had an easy train ride into the centre of York. We had a wonderful week and I would highly recommend Honeysuckle Lodge at Paddock Lodges.

This was our 3rd stay at The Pines and sadly we were very disappointed with this lodge.

We were charged a 5 star price for a 2 star lodge. Issues to mention as follows. Windows not cleaned. Hoovers unable to be used due to not being emptied for a long period which caused them to stink when we did try to use. Lack of cleaning products. Mop totally unable to be used, small brush and dustpan not fit for purpose, only two bin bags for a week. No iron or ironing board which we had to waste a full day on Sunday 13th to purchase. Owners were contacted by Yorkshire coastal cottages and were told that they do not supply, which is odd considering there is a washer dryer. No clothes maiden supplied also. There was a slug in shower in ensuite on arrival and shower head will not stay in position which is is difficult to use with one hand whilst holding shower head with the other hand. No umbrella for outside on decking, which along with the furniture needed cleaning also. This lodge is in my opinion just a buy to let investment which is reflected in the lack of attention to detail regarding everything from utensils to cleanliness. We booked this lodge expecting the same standard as previous stays in other lodges on the Pines and I feel we have been grossly overcharged.

Overall we were very pleased with the property, it was lovely.

Suggestions to improve would be: 1. The listing doesn't mention if there are any towels provided. The email says check the listing, but nothing on there! Although we were pleased to find towels were there. 2. It was difficult to find the property - the postcode took us near the beach, which was at least half a mile away! The correct postcode should be: TS13 5HR 3. The email states: As you approach the main entrance to the pines, there should be a gate on your left-hand side, you go past, carry on up the track to the second gate.... It should read the gate should be on your RIGHT HAND SIDE 4. Once we finally past the gate it was difficult to find the correct lodge in the dark as again the instructions were wrong. The email states "On entering the site through the gates follow the road right round, the lodge is the last one in the corner on the left"... The correct instructions should be "On entering the site through the gates, take the first left, then follow this road to the end, the lodge is the last one on the corner on the left" Please amend these details. Then the property would have got 5* review

Bramblewick is a lovely lodge, set in a beautiful location, easily accessible to explore surrounding areas.

However, there are a few little niggly things that need addressing to make peoples stay more comfortable and enjoyable. It would be nice to have a sun shade / brolly on the decking to provide shade on a hot sunny day, as unfortunately we had to go inside due to not having any shade which was a shame. Something really needs to be done about the live TV. Many nights were spoilt as we were unable to watch TV due to the poor reception. We did not use the dishwasher as the large dinner plates were too big to fit in and were taller than the washer blades. Coat pegs are still falling off the wall in the corridor as reported many times in the guest book. There is no manual book explaining how to use the heating, as we needed to put the heating on for my elderly parents, we didn’t figure it out until a day before our leave. All in all we enjoyed our stay, and despite the above, we would recommend Bramblewick, but would recommend that things are put right to make the stay more comfortable.
