What our customers say about their holidays

    • Stephanie - Verified booking

We stayed here as a family of three and what a beautiful place to stay!

Ideal for exploring the surrounding areas. We visited Thornton-Le-Dale, Scarborough and Robin Hood’s Bay while we were there. We also went to Alpamare water park when we were there which was only a 5/10 minute drive and brilliant for families! It was great to come back to the lodge after a busy day and relax in the hot tub, with the most beautiful and tranquil views. The lodge was clean and beautifully decorated, the sofa and bed was comfortable. I would say it is probably better suited to couples that eat out most of the time though. There were a few things people should be aware of. There was a wedding on the Friday and Saturday night when we were there. The music was loud until midnight and then you could hear people talking and waiting for taxis outside after this. However, the music didn’t bother us at all. It was a wedding after all and it was quite fun joining in doing the Macarena whilst sitting in the hot tub. We even made a hedge friend on the Saturday night when someone started whistling and talking to us from the other side of the hedge, which we found hilarious! The kitchen is stocked with the very basics and only four of everything (and only three bowels). There is no freezer, which we found hard, and we found it would’ve suited us better to have a freezer rather than a dishwasher. Although, the staff were so friendly and we were given ice a couple of times when we were unable to get some from the shop, which was very kind. It would’ve also been handy to have a door mat at the back door too, especially when you’re coming back in from the hot tub. We used one of our towels on the floor to prevent slipping. There were so many flies, but that’s to be expected on a farm. The shower wasn’t very powerful and more storage would’ve been great too! The butchers and tea room on site are both brilliant and the staff are fantastic! We can highly recommend the family breakfast and BBQ packs from the butchers and the sandwiches and ploughman’s lunch from the tea room was delicious too. Overall, there were a few things mentioned above that could’ve be tweaked to make our experience even better. However, that view, that stunning view, made up for everything! We would definitely like to return in the future and would definitely recommend it as a fantastic place to stay and explore.

      Unfortunately, my stay wasn’t brilliant.

The first day we got there we got given key fobs that didn’t work. So we had to spend half an hour ringing different number to try and get hold of someone to come down and let us in, and give us a new gate code. In the morning we tried to shower and there was no hot water. This continued for a full weekend. We had cold showers for 3 nights in a row after paying 600 quid to stay there. We were told the hot tub takes 1 hour to warm so we could at least jump in there with no hot water. It took me seven and a half hours to heat the hot tub to a standard where it was warm enough to warrant getting in. I checked on the fire every half an hour and used nearly two bags of wood. We took the dog which was lovely, but the hoover didn’t work and we had nothing but a dust pan and brush. So naturally there was dirt and sticks on the floor between the dog and making the fire and there was no real way to clean up. The sofa was very uncomfortable and me and my partner spent the weekend alternating between sitting on the floor and the sofa. Overall the weekend was a 1 star weekend stay. Really disappointing as the location is lovely and secluded and it could be a nice stay. Should have read the reviews properly as it seems the issues are on going and still unresolved.

We have just returned from a weeks stay in this wonderful accommodation and we were very happy with our holiday.

The lodge itself is fantastic, was quite well equipped and was very clean on arrival. The views are stunning and the hot tub was obviously the biggest bonus! We had little contact with the owners / staff during our stay, but they were welcoming when we arrived. This place is in the perfect location for travelling to nearby towns and beaches and is set on a lovely farm. We had a wonderful stay, but there are just a couple of things we wanted to point out: We feel that all windows on the bottom floor (bathroom and side window) should have a blind or curtain, particularly as it's such a busy little place and we felt our privacy was hindered at times. Additionally, a better brush or even hoover would be ideal as it was hard to keep the floors tidy. Lastly, during the week we had a little issue with small black bugs coming in from under the big french doors (they stayed around the door). We didn't raise this as an issue at the time as it's probably expected in the countryside and didn't cause us much bother, but it could be something to look at for the future. However, we really loved this accommodation and would definitely return if we were in the area again! Thanks.

Our entry to Lake View Lodge was some what of a task in its self as we arrived after the park closed.

However once we gained entry to the park and at the lodge we where blown away. The welcome package for us and our dog and the Christmas Tree made it feel very festive. We loved the fully equipped kitchen, made preparing meals easy. Loved the walk in shower. The whole layout of the lodge was prefect given its size and the views were spectacular. If you like to eat out we would recommend the Ye Old Forge Valley Inn in West Ayton, or The Mayfield in Seamer. Both allow dogs inside. We have enjoyed our stay and would look to rebook in the future. However, this would also depend on few things being fixed, replaced etc, which we have directly emailed the owners and Sykes about. We did read the reviews prior to booking the lake view lodge, which gave us an insight as to what to expect Despite the list of things that need addressing and things that we think could add. We didn’t want to end the email on a negative note and wanted to we had a good time, enjoyed the hot tub, sitting out on a morning watching the world go by and would definitely recommend the lodge to family and friends. As well as rebooking ourselves.

Beautiful cottage with amazing scenery, Great location and the tea rooms next door provided really lovely food - we had a wonderful roast lunch and the breakfasts were very tasty.

Staff were lovely. Butchers across the courtyard was handy for food and the bbq pack was good value. Some minor points: Cottage wasn’t 100% clean when we arrived as the floors felt dirty on our feet and the sofas and footstool in need of a good clean - really comfy but looking quite stained. Cushions quite prickly due to feathers poking out. Kitchen ideally needs a freezer and bigger fridge as well as more worktop space to make it more usable as staying for a week we struggled for buying meals to keep us going as nowhere to store them and also needed more cooking space. Pint glasses would also be useful too for larger drinks as the ones provided were quite small. Farm is located on a road so traffic is noticeable and farm was noisy at times throughout the night. Welcome pack could do with more information about what to do in the area and also provide instructions on check out as we didn’t know what to do about keys and bins etc but otherwise an absolutely beautiful place and would be happy to stay again one day.
