This property feels like a home as oppose to a holiday home.

Everything is provided and you could easily cook a meal in the kitchen - there is a proper size cooker, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and half size dishwasher. There is enough cutlery, plates, saucepans, glasses mugs etc.The property is warm and cosy and if needed there is a gas fire in the lounge area - there are also real fireplaces which I assume you can use in the winter. It is a small garden but there is a table and chairs to be able to sit outside. On the corner of the road there is a green space if you have a child who wants to run around. The WiFi is good enough for browsing, kids tablets and using apps like Netflix, Disney plus, Amazon video on the smart tv provided. The location is perfect - it is in Bowness which is a lovely town. The property is within easy walking distance (5 minutes walk) to lots of restaurants, bars, shops, the Beatrix Potter exhibition, small cinema and the jetty on Lake Windermere where you can get the boats to Ambleside etc. a little further past the jetty is the car jetty to take you across to where Beatrix Potter’s house is. By car it is easy to get to other main towns and tourist spots of the Lake District. The only downsides are the bathroom is quite small and the shower hasn’t got great pressure but is certainly useable - but that could be due to us having power showers at home so use to very powerful showers, whereas the shower in the property is an electric one. However it is hot water on demand which was good and the towels provided are lovely and fluffy. The other issue is parking - it is on road parking. The road isn’t permit only so people park their cars there and walk into town as there isn’t a lot of parking in the town. We were there over the Easter weekend and ended up using one of the businesses parking space on their drive (obviously after contacting them and residents of the road) as there was no space on the road. After the bank holiday it became a lot easier to park on the road and we didn’t then have an issue but I’m not sure what it would be like to park in the summer holidays. However on speaking to a neighbour they are trying to get permit parking for the road which will probably make it a lot easier to park as there is certainly enough parking spaces for the number of houses.

A well equipped and delightful property which we would recommend to anyone.

Just a few niggles with the management of the property. which we hope that the Owners will find constructive 1 Key safe Arrived in the dark, and couldn't find it. Fortunately H.O.L helped out. The location description is - wrong. Try this-- Locate the middle door - the one with High Lindeth above it. The safe is on the back of the right hand Balcony support post.-----Better still. why not put the safe at the front of the pillar- where it can be seen!! 2. Hair dryers We asked in advance whether Dryers were provided and were tole NO. Our ladies brought 3 with them, which made a total of 7 when added to the 4 we found on the bedrooms!! 3. Green Dot Emergency lights. In the main (with ensuite) bedroom, one of the Green dot lights had failed and had been replace with a full light which was on all the time. This had been taped over with gaffer tape, but flickering light escaping round the edge kept us awake on the first night. A call to H.O.L led to the light being disconnected. Other bulbs in this system don't appear to be working- a full safety check tis needed. 4. Logs We enquired about supply of Logs and were given a number by H.O.L. On ringing we found that the man had retired. He gave us a number for for maintenance who supplied us with logs. The number is NOT the one given in the H.O.L. book. 5 Dustbins The H.O.L book contains one page saying bins are collected on Wednesday and another one saying Thursday. 6. H.O.L Book. The text in this book needs revising and updating

We had a thoroughly enjoyable week in Snowdrop Cottage over February half term.

We also had fantastic weather. The cottage is perfectly situated within a 5 minute easy walk to Bowness. Bowness itself is beautiful and has so many lovely shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, you’re really spoilt for choice. We really enjoyed walking down to the Ferry Nab and walking up to Wray Castle and Claife Viewing point. The cottage itself is decorated beautifully and the beds were so comfortable. It was great for us, 2 adults and 2 small children (7 & 4). However the bathroom is tiny with no storage so I’m not sure how suitable it would be for children any older or for 2 couples. Also we found the sofa quite uncomfortable, the low backs and lack of foot stool or foot rest wasn’t to our comfort but that’s just personal preference. A couple of things that I felt were lacking compared to other cottages we’ve stayed in: champagne flutes, wine stop, foot stool, the knives were very very blunt, couldn’t even chop a tomato so this was annoying. The back gate was padlocked so to empty the bins we had to walk all the way round the back of the house and no recycling bins so had to take it all to Booths supermarket. My 4 year old also kept falling over on the tiles outside the property, they get very very slippery in the damp weather. Just needs a jet wash and some signage I think. On the whole a very nice stay but a few small amendments would make it fantastic.

      Cottage was OK.

However if you want a shower you have to go from your bedroom down two flights of stairs into the basement. Its damp and fusty in the basement and there is a dehumidifier working overload. The shower and toilet room is rather cramped. Kitchen was nice enough and had everything you need. 'The living room is alright but nothing reclines but that's fine if you want to sit bolt upright after a long day on the fells. Advertised is a wi game - it doesn't work so why advertise it. The TV is old so your not going to have much variety on what you watch. Parking can be a bit tricky and you might find yourselves walking a long way from whichever street you can find to park on. The upstairs bathroom had a faulty toilet cistern - there was an instruction note to advise us it was faulty placed on top of the cistern telling us we need to position the flush handle just so after flushing - otherwise the cistern would constantly be filling and discharging via the overflow all night. We manged this fine, but the real disappointment was the fact that the owner then put a claim in after we left to replace the their faulty/damaged toilet !!!! They said we had damaged it. Furthermore, Sykes cottages endorsed their claim £200!!! We have used sykes cottages before. Never again - check out their reviews its alarming. Sykes cottages work on a basis of don't call us you'll never get through to us.

The cottage was in a great location and very clean throughout.

We welcomed the message from the owners to say we could access the property earlier than 4pm. The owners had also kindly left a bottle of wine and essentials for our arrival. Accommodation - I don’t think the pictures truly reflect the property as they make it seem a little bigger. If you have mobility issues you would struggle with this cottage as the stairs were steep and see comments below. Kitchen - nice and as reflected in the pictures. Living room - comfortable and cosy room Upstairs the rooms felt quite small and the furniture not well placed. You have to squeeze past furniture to get to mirrors etc, past hot radiator to get to the other side of the double bed so it all very tight. The bathroom was lovely but we would have preferred the shower to be in here, instead the shower was a tiny cubicle in the basement that would not work for tall people. Garden - furniture was different to photos and is now a rattan suite but was covered in bird mess. Would be nice for this area to have some plant pots to soften it. Despite this we enjoyed our stay. With a few adjustments the cottage could be fantastic.
