There were a few faults with the property the first being the sofa it was so uncomfortable to sit on and its definitely due an upgrade.
When hanging a towel on a hand rail in the main bedroomâs bathroom one side of the towel rail fell off as it wasn't attached. The bathroom itself need an extractor fan as there seems to be a build up of condensation, slight damp which shows the cracks that are appearing on the ceiling. The fan lights in both bedrooms need to be replaced or maybe firmly attached to the ceiling as they move and spin erratically which didn't seem safe to leave on. We also had to reattach the fan pull chain as it came off when turning the fan off. The main dinning table was very unstable so we had to wedge some cardboard under the leg so it was sturdy to eat on. I think the main thing for us personally was not being able to close the curtains it was far to bright in the rooms however the blinds served a good purpose for privacy but come early morning when the light broke through we were woken earlier than expected. However there was positives to property to it was very clean baring the smell of dog odour in the lounge area (which us to be expected being a dog friendly accommodation) we had access to all of the amenities to cook, clean and wash our clothes if need be with a wide selection of kitchen utensils. The beds were comfortable, The property itself was spacious well decorated and it did feel homely. On a bonus the property its situated in the perfect location to Torquay town centre which is within walking distance and if you find those stairs which leads down to the middle of town centre it will shorten your journey considerably. Overall the holiday experience was a pleasant one and minor the the few things I stated above. i would recommend this accommodation to anyone who wants to be located in the perfect spot to have the peace and quiet during the night or day with many destinations that are only a short car/train journey away.

Hello, this weekend was purchased as a present four our friends who had just got married.
The reason we chose the property was because of the hot tub so we were going to use it as a base and socialise in the evenings relaxing in the tub. On arrival the property was very clean and tidy inside (only two coffee saches for four guests? But i guess thats just a nice little extra anyway) . The following morning we went to use the hot before going out but unfortunately the water smelt slightly stagnant and was only 34 degrees (certainly not hot tub temperature). I found test strips for the tub, there was no indication of chlorine or bromine in the water hence it was not set up properly. This was somewhat disappointing as the attraction of the property was the hot tub hence I felt we paid a higher than average price for the area. I phoned the owner (Gary) and explained once we were able to catch up with eachother. Gary was apologetic and put the error down to the company responsible for maintenance. Not a fault of the property but the following evening the neighbours had a loud domestic incident (not really what we wanted when we were trying to treat our friends to a relaxing weekend). I'm sure on other occasions this would be an ideal location for anyone wanting to stay in Torquay, easy walking distance to key locations, but on this occasion it didn't work out for us. There are understandably lots of rules around the hot tub use with a potential fine of £100 if they are breached. It's a shame there wasn't an offer of a £100 refund as the facility wasn't available. I wouldn't choose to stay at the property again as there are better value locations / hotels that would be suitable for similar, if not less money.

Itâs a beautiful house with stunning views.
Itâs reasonably well equipped and has plenty of comfortable seating indoors for a large family. The beds are all very comfortable and the house was clean and tidy when we arrived. The welcome pack was the best weâve ever had in decades of renting holiday lets. What lets the place down is basic maintenance. The steep stone stairs to the lower floor are hazardous and we could not use that floor as planned for our elderly parents. The advert is not clear that use of this floor involves a descent down stone stairs with a piece of loose carpet over the top stair. That floor seems not to have been used for a long time as it smelt musty. The shower tray is extremely slippy and needs a non-slip mat. Because our disabled parents could not use this floor, we had to give them the twin en-suite so that they would at least have their own bathroom. They usually sleep together in a King size bed and so we worried all week that they would fall from the single beds. Upstairs, the main bathroom shower hose is broken and needs replacing. The most disappointing element was the gardens. They have not been maintained at all and there is no comfortable seating - a picnic bench and a rusty metal patio set are not suitable for a large family to relax. There was also no means for outdoor cooking. For those reasons, we did not use the gardens at all. The upstairs roof garden was dirty and full of soil from the gutters. Once again, this could not be used.

We have stayed at a number of Sykes properties but this has to be up there with the best!
The house is a real gem, such a great location for the town of Torquay but also for the surrounding area as well. We walked and used buses most days, only getting in the car to venture further afield a couple of times. There is a shop close by and lots of places to eat in town, we hardly needed to use the kitchen at all! The house is very clean and in excellent condition. The beds were comfy, the bed linen and towels all pristine. We loved the style of decoration and the uncluttered air of the place. The house was plenty big enough for 4 although might feel a bit cramped for 6. The hot tub was brilliant, in a really quirky backdrop with the church right behind it. The owner was most helpful on the one occasion there was a small query re the water levels in the tub. 2 small points that could be improved - a clothes airer would come in handy for wet hot tub towels (I know there was washing line but this was quite short and went across the top of the tub so was a bit compromised). Secondly the shower arm in the ensuite bathroom would not hold the shower head up - ok for a 4ft midget but no good for my 6ft husband!! Minor problems on an otherwise great stay.

Although this property was above our projected budget we booked as there was very little else available.
What a great decision it was!! From the moment you walk in the door you are met with pure luxury. Decoration is beautiful throughout. A very thoughtful welcome package of cream tea and prosecco was awaiting us! Every room was spotlessly clean and there was so much space, my family could have spent the week there without actually seeing each other!! (HaHa) Both kitchens were very well equipped, as were all the WC's. We didn't expect towels and sheets in this current climate but they were provided and like brand new! Beds were so comfy, as were the sofas in all living rooms. No expense has been spared here; outside seating at every level so always something in the sun if you didn't fancy the 10 minute walk to the beach. We really appreciated the children's toys and equipment; there was a great selection of board games and cook books, we were almost wishing for a rainy day to stay in and make use of them!! Amazing. 100% recommended. One point to be aware of is that - like any coastal area - it is quite hilly. This was not our first time using Sykes Cottage and again we have been able to rely on their quality of holiday accommodation.
