Below Deck was modern, spacious, tastefully decorated and well equipped and exactly like the photos. The hosts had kindly left scones, cream and jam as well as milk so I had really hoped for a perfect stay.Sadly as this apartment is located below the main house, it was not a “peaceful break near the coast” as described or as wished for. There is a family living in the main house above as well as a lodger, there was far too much noise in the evenings and also very early in the mornings (before 5am each day) and clearly insufficient soundproofing to prevent noise disturbance into this apartment. When you look forward to time away and have saved up, you don’t expect to be woken by loud noises every morning. I was aware when booking, it was under the main house but thought it would have been soundproofed for basic noises such as walking around, children running around, what sounded like shoes / boots being kicked off and landing on hard floors and banging from doors. For the location, it was easy enough to walk down into the town (as per the advice in the welcome book) and I was aware from other reviewers it was more uphill on the return but was prepared for this. When walking to the town centre, we had to be mindful of where we stepped / walked once out of the property footprint. This was because on the road and pavements on the walking route, there was a fair amount of rubbish and also dog mess in a few places which was unpleasant. The bathroom extractor fan may need cleaning or changing as I noticed that even after a short shower, the fan had to be kept on for a number of hours and still condensation was left in the bathroom.A guest should not feel compelled to contact the hosts to ask them and any other person living in the main home to be quiet as they should be mindful of such when the apartment is booked out and not all guests feel comfortable to raise this or want to make contact. In the end, I chose to check out a day early (leaving a note for the hosts through their door) but had considered leaving after the first 2 nights due to the noise, lack of “peacefulness” in the evenings and being disturbed and woken early each day.I met the hosts once on the day after my arrival, when there was no hot water or heating due to an issue with the boiler but was grateful this was sorted out promptly and without complications.Unfortunately for me, I would rate my overall stay at 3.5/5 and was saddened this could not have been 5 star as anticipated when I booked.
