What our customers say about their holidays

    • John - Verified booking

      Do not book this property.

A previous review described this property as filthy with an overgrown garden and a second floor with two bedrooms said to be unusable for safety reasons. When contacted by telephone and e mail before our booking ‘Sykes Cottages’ assured me that the issues had been addressed and dealt with. On entering the property there was an overwhelming musty smell. We had to clear away the many cobwebs and clean all surfaces as soon as we entered. The oven was too disgustingly filthy to ever use, as was the tiny filter coffee maker. Of the many mugs only two were usable as the rest were disgustingly worn away. The bath mat in the En Suite bathroom was dreadful, full of stains and falling apart. The towels were tiny and very thin and worn. The one tea towel provided had two large holes in it. Most of the blinds in the property were broken. The television was described as a Smart TV, it was not. There were no covers on the Conservatory cushions so they were stained and horrible. The two sun loungers had no cushions. We only needed the first floor bedrooms but we investigated those on the second floor. The stairs to them were so unsafe our dog would not use them and we found them very scary to navigate. It was impossible to stand in the two bedrooms at the top of the stairs. We were warned that if we left any rubbish in the bin on the property rather than in the bin on the nearby street, we would be charged for removal by the gardener, but only 1 bin bag was provided for the week. The garden and paths to it were so overgrown it was clear that no gardener had been on the property for a very long time. We were told that we had to strip the beds before leaving or would again be charged. We have stayed in many, many rental properties and been provided with a wide range of welcome packs. At ‘Heselwood’ we weren’t even provided with a tea bag, only 2 dishwasher tablets. This property could be amazing.

We had a lovely stay at Kingfisher cottage.

The location is great, being yards from the South West Coast path and with it's own beach. The views from the fields on the farm (which you have access to and have 'paths' mowed into them) are marvellous, and the Alpaca's are very friendly if you want to say hello. The cottage itself was very comfortable and well equipped, however the bathroom is on the ground-floor which was not mentioned in the listing - this could prove inconvenient for some people. The other drawback is the internet access. Whilst the listing says that "the wi-fi speed is much slower", the speed is not the main problem. The problem is the connection to the router that is external to the cottage and serves a number of the cottages. I continuously lost connection to the router which was frustrating - investment into additional connections for each group of cottages would probably solve this. However if you're not too bothered by internet connection, or the downstairs bathroom, and want a very comfortable cottage in a great location, with great views of the coast from the fields then this is the cottage for you.

Delightful cottage everything you need for a comfortable stay A dog towel treats and a roll of bags was a lovely touch for our westie Due to Bethany being poorly her mum Alison greeted us lovely lady guided us on different eating places and attractions and if anything in the cottage not happy with to see her Everything was great The Llamas sheep and goat were lovely The little beach was lovely I am sure on a sunny day but our weather was very mixed beginning of September Plenty of crockery pots pans cutlery knives and utensils The king size bed was lovely deep and we slept very well The bathroom was very clean the only thing I would change is the towel rail as starting to rust the shower was great with a choice of hand set or rain shower The laundry room is great although we didn't use it Information and an honesty box for the llama food we couldn't feed the geese and chickens due to avian bird flu but they were happy birds We loved it and would recommend booking this cottage location is just outside ilfracombe a matter of yards but close enough

Weekend away with the family celebrating mum’s 75th Birthday.

7 adults, 3 children. The cottage was in a great location. The surrounding grounds and garden were lovely. A great view from the rear garden. Inside, the kitchen had all you could want to cook for large groups. Dishwasher was a lifesaver. The front living area was substantial and comfortable. Bedrooms on the first floor were large and comfortable with a double bed and a single bed in each of them. Up to the 2nd floor were 2 very small cupboard type rooms. These weren’t great. Be careful navigating the stairs up to these rooms particularly children or elderly. Saying that, it didn’t detract from our enjoyment. The hosts were available via text message and got back to me quickly with information. They were nice and allowed us in slightly early to decorate with balloons and banners. Unfortunately one of our children fell ill on our last night and the hosts were very kind in allowing us to check out late as our train home was mid afternoon that day. I’m very grateful to them. On the whole, we loved cottage and its space. We would go back.

Lovely decor & seating, gardens & good signage.

Beautifully clean interior. New shower room suite with rain shower and large shower cubicle. Note: bedrooms are upstairs, shower room/toilet is downstairs. Shower room/toilet door is also only 1m (approx) away from lounge sofa so I would not feel comfortable sharing this property with another couple. Weighted pull light cord switch is in the wrong position as it consistently gets caught in the shower room door. External windows needed cleaning as loads of spiders webs, insects and debris on the outside of UPVC windows and frames. King sized bed is of a soft consistency. 10.5 tog quilts - would have been good to have lighter weight quits option stored in bags under the beds. Well kept path to their private Cove with animals to view. Easy access to Coastal Path. One of the single beds had very noisy springs and had probably been slept in by a heavy weighted person. Note: take Milk and shopping to this location as there is no Welcome Pack provided.
