What our customers say about their holidays

    • Carolyn - Verified booking

Rock view shepherds hut is one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed!

We did not want to leave! As soon as you walk down the path on your first day, you are greeted by trees, the hot tub, pond, fire pit and birds singing. What’s not to like! Nick and Karen communicated well with us leading up to our stay, and Nick showed us around the hut when we arrived. He checked the hot tub for us half way through the holiday (which we enjoyed 6/7 nights we stayed) and even suggested local hot spots including the nearest beaches. We were amazed with the creative storage space in the hut (lots of room under the dining room seating for coats, shoes etc) with plenty of kitchenware such as pots, pans and even Tupperware which came in handy for our sandwiches when out walking. Little extras in the drawers included a torch, first aid kit and washing up bits etc. this all makes a difference! Good shower with plenty of power and hot water. Towels provided for shower and hot tub. Large and super soft. It is cosy inside the hut, only needing to use the log fire once. There is a heater in the cupboard if you get cold, plus a nifty little hoover which came in handy. The outside area is simply magic!!! Sitting in the hot tub after a day of exploring was bliss. We both felt relaxed after using it. Probably our favourite bit about the accommodation. We did not realise how close it is to Tamar trails, which makes a lovely walk. Here is where I spotted a deer. Lots of squirrels to watch, which made great entertainment whilst sat in the hot tub. Honestly, if you want to get away from the world and feel relaxed this is the place to go. Your be amazed at how spacious the shepherds hut is. We were surprised to get 4G in the area, which came in handy for wanting to check out local areas. But if you don’t get signal, Nick and Karen have organised a fab folder full of local places to visit. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We would now like to buy and live in a shepherds hut… We will be back asap!!

After a couple of very busy, stressfull years and not having any breaks for a few years, i just needed to switch off from the world for a much needed re-charge/re-fresh.

Rock view hut was the perfect brain tonic i needed, very secluded and private set in a beautiful woodland, as a lone traveller i was a little hesitant being there alone, but after the first night in the hut i knew this was just perfect for me. There is much to do nearby (a short drive) to cater for all tastes. I did venture out on one of the days and I can recommend the "Avon Dam" walk at "Dartmoor national park" very impressive. My day normally consisted of having a lay in till 10am ish, cooking a breakfast (sometimes on firepit grill) lazing on the hammock (so comfy),short walks in the immediate vicinity, I drove to local shops a couple of times 3-4 miles away for essentials, but mainly just stayed at the hut and switched off, not worrying about makeup or outfits, this really was a perfect break and i will return for sure,(maybe in autum) Karen and Nick are very friendly and helpful and only a short distance away if needed, quickly answering any queries i had whilst there, after arrival Nick gave me a quick tutorial on how to use/heat the hot tub, which is very easy to use and i used it at least once per day, normally used it late at night, just laying back and looking at the stars, (pure bliss) with a G & T in hand, i did have 2 days of unsettled weather but used that time to go to shops. Overall the break was a PERFECT 10 outve 10 and exceeded my expectations. If you want peace and quiet this is the location you need but there is alot to do nearby if wanted, perfect for couples or if u are alone like myself, safe ,secure and beautiful. Thanks Karen,Nick & Sykes

      Absolutely amazing place to stay!

On arrival Nick was there to greet us and showed us everything we needed like how to use the hot tub and where the logs were kept for the fire. He was very welcoming and informative. The photos don't do the hut justice and it was actually bigger than we thought it was going to be with enough storage for everything we took with us. The location of the hut is very private and not overlooked at all so it felt like we were deep in the woods but our hosts were close enough should we need anything. The hut and hot tub was spotless when we got there plenty of towels and everything we needed was provided. We loved watching the squirrels and bats and birds wich we saw daily, we also saw deer close by! We also had a hammock wich was a great bonus, super comfy and really nice to relax in while your waiting for the hot tub to warm up. We are definitely going to be returning soon, couldn't recommend staying here enough! Definitely worth what we paid and more! Thank you so much Nick and Karen!

I booked rockview shepherds hut for 4 nights for my wedding anniversary, my wife almost cried when she saw the photos, it looked perfect.

From the first contact with Nick & Karen via email we were made to feel special, the couple of questions we had were answered almost immediately. We didn’t arrive until after 9pm and Nick had got the hot tub ready for us. Nick and Karen are wonderful hosts and nothing was too much for them. Nick explained how everything worked and immediately made us feel at home. The location was idyllic surrounded by a beautiful old wood, the hut is stunning inside and out and is of a very high standard. When we arrived there’s was a vase of tulips on the table, a bottle of Prosecco in the fridge and a personalised anniversary card with some chocolates and fresh strawberries. After spending nearly 18 months at home it was the perfect location for our romantic getaway. I would highly recommend rockview shepherds hut and have actually passed the details to several friends. Nick and Karen thank you so much for letting us stay we had a wonderful, relaxed stay. Janet & Niki

We had a wonderful three night stay at The Shepherd’s Hut and we are hugely grateful to Karen and Nick for making everything so amazing.

We had a very warm welcome on arrival. Everything was explained very clearly, from how to use the log burner to how to warm the hot tub. Standards were very high all round. The flowers that had been left were beautiful, the handmade card was a lovely touch, and the Prosecco was a lovely gift for our anniversary. This break was everything we needed, and the location was stunningly peaceful. We loved the local walks which were steeped in history, and the distance to nearby Gunnislake and Tavistock was ideal. Everything was just perfect, and everything had been thought of, from extra towels for the hot tub to the Bluetooth stereo, we couldn’t have wanted more. I think we shall remember sitting on the decking just listening to the birdsong forever, it was just so beautiful. We even saw a few squirrels, and heard a couple of owls one night. We really did have the perfect relaxing stay. Thank you so much Karen and Nick!
