"Unlike some properties at Lower Mill with limited views, The Augusta House overlooks the wonderful Somerford Lagoon and it's so lovely and relaxing to be able to watch and listen to the different birds that come and go. In the evening, we could almost reach out and touch the bats that came out to catch their supper. The whole estate is a joy for those of all ages, who love and appreciate nature. We don't have young children but for those who do, they would be well catered for. There's a lovely atmosphere across the whole site and everyone we met was friendly. A strict code of conduct ensures that nature, wildlife, and peacefulness take priority. The Spa is an absolute oasis; beautifully clean and with the outside pool being even warmer than the inside one. Our week long stay was at the beginning of October and one warm, sunny weekday we had the outdoor pool to ourselves for almost 2 hours-bliss!The house itself is spacious, clean, very well equipped for the number of people it can accommodate and would be warm and cosy during cold weather (we had to turn the heating off). The beds were very comfortable and the linen and towels clean. The only disappointment was the 'General Store'. This amounts to no more than a few shelves of random items within the Ballihoo Restaurant. They didn't even stock ordinary tea and were charging 60p each for tomatoes which, needless to say we declined. So, if you don't want to spend your holiday food shopping, make sure you either bring everything with you or arrange to have it delivered. We shopped at The Organic Farm Shop in nearby Burford (the organicfarmshop.co.uk) and would very highly recommend it. They stock pretty much everything you could need and the food in the cafe is delicious. Well worth a visit in itself for anyone who appreciates good quality food, with much of the fruit and vegetables being grown on site."

"Myself, family and friends really enjoyed our stay. The owner (who lives in the bunglalow attached to the property) was really welcoming. Provided us with some milk, tea and coffee, told us about nice places to go to and walk around. He was also very kind in understanding how late we would be arriving due to a 6 hour journey. The house was quite cold at the time of year we went and we needed to have the heating on quite a lot. However we were told that the place had been insulated fully, unfortunately it’s just an older building so it’s just how it is. Area was convenient to visit places like Puzzle Wood, Clearwell Caves, Cardiff, Forest of Dean, Bath etc so a good middle ground. Only problem we had, one of our friends stayed in the single room and they couldn’t sleep due to springs digging into their back, so we swapped the mattress with one of ones in the twin room which was a lot more comfy. Overall, I would recommend this place as a great middle ground if you’re planning on visiting lots of different areas, owner is really lovely, nice big kitchen for cooking and a nice property.Thank you for our lovely stay!"

"The house was spacious, and the location was perfect. There was a large decked area with table and plenty of chairs at the back of the house, overlooking the lake. Two of the first floor bedrooms had balconies overlooking the lake. We were surprised that the top floor bedroom didn't have a window to take advantage of the view, but a skylight, that didn't spoil the holiday though. My son in law took his kayak and made full use of it on the lake. The grandchildren loved the swimming pools, indoor and out, as we all did, and the weather was brilliant. We also enjoyed meeting the swans with their cygnets, and watching and identifying the many different birds. There were some good dog friendly pubs close by, The Bakers Arms, The Greyhound and we particularly enjoyed eating at the Wheatsheaf. It was a wonderful relaxed holiday and we all wanted to stay on for another week."

"The cottage was clean and comfortable, with a pretty well equipped kitchen and a lovely bathroom and we had an excellent new year break. It was a little smaller than it appeared from the pictures, and the layout of the living area felt a little functional rather than cozy. The slightly odd homemade hanging area did appear quite strange in the otherwise high quality finish of the cottage. The location was lovely and we spent the whole time walking on the local footpaths. The walking information in the cottage folder was great however an ordernance survey map would be really useful. Unfortunately it was too warm to use the wood burner, but the festive decorations were a really lovely extra touch which helped make our quiet new year break really special."

"Had a most enjoyable family get-together. (4 adults, 2 oldies, 3 kids 4,7 &9). Property is at the end of a farm track from a small village, so no pub or corner shop within walking distance, but supermarket 15 mins drive away. Lovely location great for walks (hilly) and bramble gathering. Cows and horses in surrounding fields provide interest. Baby pheasants everywhere.Property has been renovated, but now slightly run-down, which makes it more relaxing. Decent accommodation. Plumbing worked after initial problem with hot water solved. Good dining room and kitchen. TV and WiFi all ok. Good garden with tables for eating outside, but pity grass was not cut until day 4. Hostess responded effectively to any little problems raised. Would repeat."
