What our customers say about their holidays

    • Steve - Verified booking

The property seemed ideal for us upon arrival.

On our first evening we decided to retire early following a long drive, unfortunately during the early hours we were woken up by revellers who we believe had left a local pub, this also happened again over the weekend, the house seems to be a stop off point on the way home. It also seems the property is situated on a dog walking cut through and barking dogs do start fairly early, the late night experience and early morning wake up call did in fact ruin the whole visit. The property we found to be clean and suitable for a couple, unfortunately the lounge did not accommodate our family guests, not enough comfortable seating. A nice touch was a bottle of prosecco and a selection of crisps. We had difficulty opening the sash windows, this led to steaming up in the bedroom, the shower was extremely difficult to operate, extremely hot, very stiff when trying to adjust the temperature. Beds comfy, just not used to a standard double, bedrooms very compact. Some of the door handles were difficult to operate and very squeaky. As we intended to spend a couple of evenings relaxing in front of the TV it was a shame the picture was so dull, I would suggest a new new large screen TV be installed ASAP, it was quite old. The house had a lot of doors to navigate, obviously obviously making it unsuitable for the disabled. Overall our stay was not ideal, we did not contact the owner as we felt our stay could be further interrupted, the few points raised would make the whole experience more enjoyable. The cost for a few days was very expensive, lets see what results from our feedback as we would love to return without the issues raised.

It's a small but comfortable cottage that supplied everything you need to get away from it all.

No Internet which was a godsend. we rely to much on technology, so it was also great to be somewhere without a phone signal as well. There are some amazing walks for dogs and the cottage supplied everything you could need for your stay for cooking with. There are Fresh eggs up the road at the local farm for £1.00 per half dozen which tasted so good. Ann was a wonderful host and was there if you needed anything and made you feel so welcome, she even supplied a proper pint of milk and a packet of Cookies but most important of all was the treats for the dogs. There is a small enclosed garden which you can sit in for breakfast looking over the valley and Ann's 2 ewes and 2 horses may come and see you over the wall. They are so comical and kept our collie entertained for hours. Thank you for letting us get away from it all to recharge our batteries, Julie, Paul, Guinness and Apollo. We will definitely be coming back again soon.

We had a lovely week in Grindon.

The cottage is very well placed for the Manifold trail ( excellent level walking for our old and struggling dog) and there was access to walks from the cottage. Leek is a really interesting town - we'd highly recommend the Heritag trail and picturesque Rudyard is very close by( more level walking). The cottage is well equipped and clean. The garden was perfect for our dog. The view was superb. Our only criticisms would be: low lighting in the living area made reading difficult; the heat of the shower was hard to control; and we never did manage to access BBC 2 and 4! Overall, it was fantastic value for money.

Thanks for a wonderful week so chilled and peaceful.

The cottage has everything needed for a relaxing break. Only thing we found is if you want to eat out locally then options are limited especially at busy times like Easter there are only 2 pubs, and they get booked up quickly. Both are in walking distance but a good hour by road, however we did get a taxi home on the couple of times we visited with just a small extra charge for the dog. There are lovely walks right on the doorstep and the view from the garden is to die for. The cottage is ideally located for you to just hide away or visit the many attractions the Derbyshire dales has to offer.

We very much liked the cottage and the surroundings.

Clean, quiet and all necessities were present. Unfortunately the was no phone signal in the area and no mobile internet nor was the wifi in the cottage working but of 2 nights. As much as we like it quiet we would have needed to be contactable as we had animal sitters on our place at home. And we were unable to plan next days walks. Also any instructions for the appliances and for the leaving day were not present in the cottage. Luckily we could sort the heating system so it wasn't making the loud noises at unexpected times.
