"Has potential however unforgivable mistakes make this property a real let-down leaving guests upset and disappointed. Refund required! All the thermostatic values had been turned off all of the radiators prior to our arrival and should have been turned on rather than requiring us to rummage around the property, moving furniture just to try and get warm. It took us quite a while to realise this and we remained cold waiting to warm up. Additionally all of the radiators require bleeding - they are full of air, cold at the top and hot at the bottom. We managed to bleed the bathroom but the others still need doing - considering all the previous issues raised with the heating - much detail on this in the visitors book this is not good enough - see photo below. Additionally there were issues raised in the visitors book regarding the state of the double bed which were also clearly ignored. These remained unresolved for our stay and I woke in such agony after the first night that we had no choice but to investigate - we discovered that the wooden slats are no longer fixed and had all moved causing the mattress to deform - see photo below. How someone making the bed could fail to realise this, I have no idea. Lack of observation is clearly an issue as there was a wrapper from a kinder egg found between the sheet and the mattress in one of the single beds, makes me wonder, did we actually have clean sheets??The broken banisters is a health and safety concern particularly on such deadly stairs and require immediate attention. What's more the lack of lighting in the two floors of stairs is ridiculous, insane for a party with a 5 year old and an oap - again how could this be passed as acceptable from a health and safety perspective, yes the write-up clearly states that the stairs are steep, this is accurate however there is no indication that you may as well be blindfolded when attempting to climb or descend due to the lack of lighting - pure deathtrap. There is a leak in the bathroom, small quantities of water dripping/appearing from underneath the soil pipe - revolting. TV reception is next to useless, regularly breaking up, we tried night after night but had to give up again and again as the programme we attempted to watch failed over and over. Noisy neighbours - the flat below slamming doors at 4 and 5am and generator in the property behind firing up at 6am.Perhaps due to lack of hot water, cutlery and plates were greasy, dirty and covered in dried food so required washing, the table cloth on the table was also dirty and needed a wash. The tiles in the bathroom tired and the once white grout is now grey and stained. On a positive however, the property is very well located, the electric stove works well and is very warming, excellent walking access to the town, the parking permit is appreciated and most useful, the wifi worked well too and the décor although tired and not as clean as we would like was attractive and cozy."

"Main entrance to the building uninviting and difficult to see key safe. No lighting on stairs to first floor apart from battery operated small lights with exhaustedbatteries.Dangerous/broken step on stairs.Difficult to see lock on door to flat. Fridge had been turned off with door closed and contained mould which need cleaning before use. Water never hot enough to wash up after meals despite running tap for ages (on final day when cleaning up before departure it was very hot at 9.30 a.m. - just in time for cleaners?).Cleaned oven before leaving (even though only used to reheat meals twice) and got two bowls of BLACK water. Vacuum cleaner left full and when emptied managed to fill it twice!! Terrible suction until we cleaned filter which looked as though it had never been cleaned. Also found beer bottle top under rug in lounge when cleaning up. TV reception sporadic at times - maybe due to poor indoor aerial. General lack of information within the property e.g. "bins collected Tuesday" but no info on where to put bags and whether it was recycling or general rubbish that week (or both). Also "A&E at Chesterfield and Derby" despite road sign 30M away saying no A&E at Chesterfield. Loading/unloading car difficult due to narrow busy main road but that was as expected.Managed to get closest parking space (100M away) for last day so walked luggage up previous night/early morning. Location to town and surrounding area very good but too many issues to return to this property."

"During our stay at Mayfly Cottage on 16th to 23rd February and were lucky with the weather – no rain! The cottage itself is a first class holiday rental, lovely and cosy and really a home from home. I enjoyed cooking because the kitchen is very well equipped with good quality kitchenware. Parking in town centres is usually a problem but the cottage comes with its own dedicated covered parking place – very useful. The cottage is attractively located overlooking the river and at the centre of Bakewell and only a few minutes walk to supermarket and all other services. Equally close are a good variety of pubs, restaurants and take-aways should you not wish to cook in the evening. Bakewell is an excellent and attractive base for exploring the Peak District and for us it was a wonderful base for walking. My wife and I would recommend this holiday let property and would quite happily use it again."

"This was our 4th. visit.to this cottage. No soap in bath room or kitchen, no toast rack no small milk jug no washing up liquid, all items not essential but makes things easier and costs very little. The biggest problem was the twin bedded room, We are both in our mid eighties & prefer to sleep in separate rooms, there are no drawers, shelves or mirror, where does one put ones clothes? The overly large hanging rail did not fit the purpose. I know the room is not very large but it was better the last time we came. Our daughter came for two nights which meant both my wife & I shared the twin room, not ideal. The new shower room was very nice but it's a pity not to have the en suite bath room available. One of the bedside lights did not work. Apart from the above it is a lovely cottage in a great position. Our week we had perfect weather."
