We had a lovely week at Rowan Cottage.
The bedrooms were immaculate and beautifully decorated. The bathrooms were very clean, shower over the bath not fantastic but not bad either. When we first went upstairs and opened the door to the main bedroom with ensuite it was like walking into a very nice hotel room. Downstairs was very comfortable and clean, but not all new which with 2 dogs I really do prefer as you aren't constantly worrying all the time. The sofas were lovely to sit on and plenty of room for 4 of us and the 2 dogs. The small porch from the garden gave a good area for drying the dogs feet and a door between the kitchen and living room was great, also a door from the living room to upstairs. So easy to stop dogs going were you didn't want them too. I keep going on about the ease with the dogs, but for us it makes a big difference to how much you can relax when in someone else's property. The garden was lovely, again great for the dogs, secure although a very small dog may get under the gate. Our smallest is a jack russell and he couldn't get out and he really tried when he saw a rabbit run under the fence! Footpaths opposite the cottage so plenty of walking. The Cuckoo Brow Inn in Far Sawey was very welcoming, we ate there a couple of times, if you like big portions you won't be disappointed. Dogs welcome and just a few minutes walk. It wasn't really the weather for sitting in the garden but I am sure it is beautiful in the summer. Well kitted out in the kitchen so everything you need if wanting to cook properly, even down to a set of kitchen scales. We had seen someone elses review saying no milk so had taken some with us, which there wasn't so that was helpful. At first slightly disappointed to find no welcome items at all, it is a nice touch when you get in after a long drive (and a breakdown) to find milk and biscuits, just that little something when you arrive. There was a cleaning kit, with sponge, couple of bin bags and dishwashing tables which was nice, but no washing up liquid (we had taken dishwasher tablets, but not the washing up liquid!). So I would definitely say you need to take everything you need with you, tea/coffee etc, shops are a good drive away. Also no logs at all for the wood burner, but the cottage was so warm we didn't need to light it anyway. The heating is excellent in the cottage, we kept turning the radiators off as getting too warm. After we had been there a couple of days, we decided that the owners have gone to so much trouble to make sure that the practical and comfort side of the cottage is top rate, that we would much rather have that, than a welcome gift on the table but other areas lacking which is often the case. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely, very well equipped and characterful cottage well placed for Grizedale and for the major lakes.
The Eagleâs Head pub is a few minutes walk and provides a limited menu and a great chicken pie if you choose to eat there. It rained most of the time we were there (flooded roads were common), but the cottageâs entrance hall is roomy enough for taking off wet coats and shoes. The heating is managed remotely and we found it too warm at times. There is an override option but we didnât like to touch it. There is also an intricate lighting system. The bathroom light comes on via a sensor and we found it disturbing during the night at times. We brought a supply of cleaning items and tea towels having read previous reviews, but we found these amply supplied on arrival which was a nice surprise. I would definitely go there again -hopefully in kinder weather conditions. It is well placed for exploring by road and off road bike and the roads are a little quieter than some of the more major tourist hubs

Cherry Tree Cottage is in a great location to explore the southern Lakes.
It was very comfortable, well-equipped and (apart from the padlocks on a room upstairs), very homely. We recommend this cottage for your holiday! There was tea, coffee and sugar in the property but do bring your own milk if you want a drink on arrival. Practical details that we'd have found useful: A reminder that the details state that no tea towels are provided. The hand soap was appreciated but you will need to bring hand towels for the kitchen and downstairs loo. There was washing-up liquid but no sponge/dish cloth for wiping surfaces and no kitchen towel. Feedback to owners (not for publication on the website) The bathroom light was very bright at night time and we'd have appreciated being able to switch it off. The property was quite dusty (top of bed frames and horizontal banister was very dusty) and the corners/edges of the room was dusty with dead flies. Cobwebs were noticeable.

The house was reasonably clean but needs a thorough cobwebbing, e.
G. in the smaller bedroom - corner on left hand side of the bed. The heating needs sorting out. Worked for two days, then we had to keep resetting in order to get hot water and radiators rarely worked. However, Sykes provided separate electric heaters quickly. The plants in the garden need to be cut back. There was no proper manual with up to date info on manuals, useful telephone numbers, suggestions for restaurants etc. and no guest book. Strange. Loved the lounge - very nicely set up and lots of interesting artwork throughout the house. A couple more serving spoons would be useful. Otherwise, the kitchen was good. Nice area for hanging coats, storing boots etc. The bathroom was okay, nice hot and powerful shower but the bathtub felt as if it would collapse any moment.

After a very disrupted and long journey from the South on Saturday, it was such a relief to arrive at Knipefold Barn , thanks to the excellent directions we found it at the first attempt. Wow ! What an amazing place ! Everything we could wish for; spotlessly clean, beautifully and intelligently designed and thoughtfully equipped - a real home from home ! Having let out our own holiday home in SW France for several years, we fully appreciate the hard work involved in preparing and maintaining a high-end property for clients, who vary between taking care of and having respect for your property to sadly, the other end of the scale ! We are of the former variety ! We have only been here one night so far but already looking forward to coming back at some point !
