Dawn Catcher is a lovely modern penthouse, it has all the facilities you need to make your stay comfortable.

The welcome pack was super the best one we have ever received . There's a few points that need addressing though. 1. It states there are 3 flights of stairs but on arrival the penthouse was on the third floor but you had to climb 6 flights of stairs ! 2. Instructions to the oven, hob top, dish washer and washing machine would be very helpful. There are very vague instructions within the welcome pack for the oven and extractor fan but a folder with more detailed instructions would be more helpful. 3. The balconies could do with some attention. they had not been cleaned and the furniture could have been cleaned too. The table on one of the balconies had seen better days and the top was loose and blew over in the wind. 4. It was a bit worrying that our only means of escape in case of a fire was down the main stairway ! A long way to get down if the fire was on the other floors below. should there not be a fire escape ? ****Owner response**** Thank you very much for your feedback following your stay at Dawn Catcher. We’re thrilled you liked the Penthouse and are happy you enjoyed your stay. Thank you also for raising a few points, which we’d like to cover here. 1) The Penthouse is advertised as being on the 3rd floor. We’ve never actually mentioned in the description the number of flights of stairs, but for the benefit of future guests we can confirm there are 6 separate flights, two per floor due to the high ceilings within the building and as mentioned in the information there is no lift/elevator. 2) Thank you for the recommendation, instructions on how to use the appliances are available and we’ll look at collating these into a folder. 3) Thank you for highlighting the balcony furniture to us, we’re sorry it wasn’t clean and this will be addressed. 4) We take fire safety very seriously and do all we can to ensure guests safety,. It is our understanding that Bank House was internally reconstructed in 2002 in full compliance with all fire safety regulations. The Penthouse is on the 3rd floor of a building with 9 apartments. They are serviced by a wide, central stairway which is to be used as the fire escape. All apartments have fire doors in order to protect this central stairwell and the premises have central monitored fire/smoke detectors throughout. The Penthouse also includes additional independent smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, extinguishers and fire blanket. Moreover, the electrical fuse box was replaced just months ago with high standard circuit breakers to ensure guest safety.

The house is nice and well equipped however there are areas that need attention.

The house could really do with a washing machine, while there is a laundrette on site the prices are horrific so it meant that sea activities we had planned we didn't do as we could not then wash our clothes and towels. The cupboard to the left of the sink would be better as a washing machine. The cleanliness was good however when our daughter dropped some toys in between the sofa cushions we found old peanuts and lots of dirt and dog hair. Some of the rugs are quite stained in the lounge, but overall the room is very nice. The left window in the snug the seal at the top of the opening window has perished so there is a gap you can see through which means the room gets very cold and it then makes the rest of downstairs very cold. We kept the door shut the whole time to mitigate this. Upstairs is nicely done however the mattresses in the beds need replacing as you can see every spring and the main bedroom one has 4 mattress toppers on to make it comfortable! The bunk beds are great and our daughter loved them and making them into a den. However the wood is very squeaky so every time she moved she got woken up, so she ended up sleeping with us all week. I would also recommend having mattress and pillow protectors on as some had dubious stains which wasn't great to see. Also the duvet cover on the main bed was too small so it rolled up inside at the edges and then became a ball in a cover overnight. I would like to mention that we had to remake the beds as whoever had made them just shoved the bottom sheets down the edges and didn't tuck it under etc. Not something most would notice but I come from a hotel background. Also hanging storage somewhere would be good. Finally the curtains poles are barely hanging in and the main bedroom one came out the wall on the first night when we closed the curtains! The left one in the lounge the end stops fell off on a regular basis. Re the hot water, the house would be better on a combi boiler or a bigger water tank as its 144L and it should be 60L per person so for 4 people you need a min of a 240 tank. Overall the house was fine for the price we paid, if we had paid £1000+ over the summer etc we would have been very disappointed.

The property was a lovely touch and very spacious.

We enjoyed our stay, but on the first day of being in the property, we had noticed that one of the bed frames in the end room to the left had cracked. This then meant when the two people who were with us got in and sat on the bed this broke the frame in the middle which meant bed was not able to be safe to sleep in. We communicated this with the cleaner and sent photos of the picture of what the bed frame looked like when arrived and then when the guest sat on bed. When I was informed in the morning I communicated straight away to the cleaner ( who was port of contact) and sue to this being a Sunday there wasn’t anything they could do until Monday. The cleaner contacted to inform me they would measure the bed and get a replacement. I informed them we would be out of property on Monday so they could measure up and get a replacement. I’m the day they informed me they were also going to replace the other bed ( which was fine) I’m a different room. This was all accommodated for and all sorted by Monday evening. To turn come home and several days later, to receive a message in the Sykes portal and £200 taken from my bank without any conversations. Absolutely discussed with this as we have not caused the damage to the furniture. I feel I have been boycotted for damage that was not called we by us. We shall not return due to the way we have been treated. For others that are l considering this please check everything…

The accommodation wowed us and was accurately reflected in the images on the web site .

It has a fabulous location and is close to all amenities .The maritime museum opposite is really good value for families as once paid you have unlimited access . It cost £26 for the family . The living area is spacious and comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped . We went to St Mawes on the ferry which was small but authentic . The local Gyllyngvase beach was a 15 minutes walk and had a very smart modern cafe the area which sold local dishes and snacks .The beach was clean and was sand /shingle it shelved at the waters edge and beach shoes would soften underfoot . We went on an overcast day and the waves were quite strong , but we enjoyed the experience and the children aged 2 and 4 loved making sand castles . Prior to arrival I made and enquiry about confirming the facilities in the apartment and the Sykes call handler was responsive professional and very helpful . I had a smaller issue whilst staying and I used live chat who were also very helpful and provided an instant response which helped . We had a lovely holiday in Falmouth and I would not hesitate booking with Sykes again , from deposit to payment it was effortless . I also used the Sykes app on my phone and I had all the information regarding my booking and the areawhich I found invaluable . Thanks to all at Sykes and I would love to return to Cornwall again , my first holiday in this area since my children were young and it did not disappoint

We very much enjoyed our stay at Deja Blue - the property and the site were perfect for our young family.

I liked the private patio that this property offered in addition to the communal grass areas where children could play. My hesitation for cleanliness was the amount of dog hair we kept coming across all week as the property if pet friendly. The property was clean to standard when we arrived but as soon as you start using a place, the dog hairs get dislodged. There was so much I had to sweep at least 3 times and another time hoover - I didn't expect to be doing that on holiday. As a pet free family I would reconsider booking a pet friendly property in future. The building itself though was just what we needed and very well equipped. The only other downside was the hot water situation. It seemed to be very limited. It couldn't cope with 2 showers of a morning, and sometimes there was no hot water for washing dishes. We really had to forward plan with the hot water boost which my husband managed to work out. That said there was no hot water one evening and had to bath out baby over the sink having used a kettle to heat the water - not ideal. If the property was pet free and the water system fixed then it would be the perfect holiday! We had a very enjoyable stay there on all other fronts.
