What our customers say about their holidays

    • Geoffrey - Verified booking

      Good points.

      1. Location is excellent for low level walks and mountain biking and bouldering and climbing. The younger members of our party did the last three. 2. Accommodation was large enough for our party of five adults and two dogs. Large modern upstairs bathroom with shower. 3. Kitchen was well equipped save for exceptions below. 4. House was Reasonably clean, save for comment below. 5. Twenty yards to a busy friendly pub that served good food and drink. It didn’t generate disturbance with noise at night. 6. Within walking distance of several fine tea and cake shops. 7. Well fenced and fully enclosed garden. 8. A working TV 9. Good internet and Wi-Fi On the other hand. 1. Could have been cleaner; several cobwebs in bedrooms and on wooden beams. 2. There was no dustpan & brush nor a sweeping broom to allow us to sweep up dog hair and keep the place as clean as we would have liked. We had no major spillages but if we had…… 3. There was no large pot in the kitchen which, as the accommodation is for eight, is a big miss. There was one small and one medium saucepan which was not sufficient for us. More saucepans needed of a larger size. 4. There were no pegs for the rather “Heath Robinson” washing line. A decent fixing for a longer and stronger line would be an improvement. 5. We were five adults and two more plus a baby were due, but could not make it. Whilst we felt there was sufficient room for five add another two plus child and it would have felt a bit cramped. We were lucky in having good weather so did not have to spend too much time indoors. 6. Some of the Steps to back garden and washing line need refixing as they were unstable. Overall This house was fine for us and our feedback points out the detail of where it could be improved. We would definitely stay there again and really enjoyed the location as well as the property itself.

Having stayed here before many years ago, we were happy to return as its a lovely cottage, great location and close to the famous Britannia Inn.

However, lost marks for listing accuracy, as I feel its misleading to say 4 bedrooms, 8 guests. Whilst true, it needs highlighting in the bullet points that this includes a family room for 3 and a single room, not way down in the extended information. 4 couples might be disappointed! Cleanliness-lovely, crisp white bedding but lost a mark as the floors were really dusty in the lounge. Comfort-An information pack would be appreciated, as arrival is after 4pm on a Saturday and we needed wood for the fire, as its November. Local shops info would be great, or a complimentary basket of wood to get us started, especially as website said fuel included. Now assume they meant oil for heating, not wood. Facilities and maintainence- great, self contained cottage, however would benefit from oven gloves, dustpan and the soap dispensers at all 3 sinks were empty (I note that this has been mentioned in previous reviews). Also, the icebox at the top of the lovely big fridge was completely iced up, so much so that nothing would fit in and the door wouldn't shut. The living room wall lights are useless, either didn't work or the bulbs were hardly noticeable. An additional outside light on the corner of the cottage would be appreciated, as when walking up to the door, there is a very dark section along the property leading to the steep steps outside the door, which you have to be right in front of before the light comes on. I also have to question the safety of the internal doors, both contain clear plain glass, no etching or stickers to highlight them when they are shut. I hope that they are safety glass at least. I know that competition is often fierce for short lets, so attention to detail is important for properties that become our home for a few days.

Anniversary Cottage is in a fantastic location. We didn’t use our car once during our stay as there were so many fantastic walks straight from the property. One day we walked over to Grasmere and then got the open top bus into Ambleside (come approx every 20 mins) and then another bus back to Elterwater (they’re roughly every 2 hours). We were walking distance of at least three pubs/restaurants with The Britannia being about a 2 minute walk. We used the Langdale CoOp at Chapel Style for all our groceries and that’s a 10/15 minute walk along the riverside (half a mile there). The house itself was super comfortable (two couples & a single adult) with glorious views. We cooked in 5 of the 7 nights and the kitchen had everything that we needed. We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside most evenings too. The beds were large & comfortable with cotton bedding and big, decent towels. Both bathrooms were decent too with great water pressure to the showers. The only area for comment was the kitchen which could do with some attention in places. For instance, the washing machine was grimy on the rubber inside the door, the cooker extractor needed new grease filters and a bit of a clean, some of the cupboard fronts needed a good wipe & there were a few cobwebs. Nothing earth shattering but just made the difference between a good and fantastic review which is a shame as everywhere else was absolutely lovely. The new carpet throughout is just gorgeous and we all just loved the decor in the bedrooms and sitting room. We would definitely recommend this super comfortable property as an ideal base for walking in the Langdales.

We had a fabulous week at Anniversary Cottage. The bungalow is one of the best equipped places we have ever been to. Loved the slow cooker. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking at home which we tend to do. Comfortable lounge with inviting log burner. It would have been a lovely gesture to Include a baskets of logs, kindling and firelighters to start us off. Bedrooms were spacious with lots of storage and beds were comfortable. A minor gripe was the water and central heating system as we ran out of water for evening showers if any were taken in the morning and had to remember to boost the immersion heater in the afternoon for enough hot water. We also went in a really cold spell and couldn’t adjust the heating so had to phone through for support as the house became cold very quickly after it went off. It is set to come on 3 times a day which was ok once outside temps increased but flexibility to change without phoning for help would have been helpful. Space for several cars to park off road which is an advantage for this village as it does get busy. Fabulous location for walks from the doorstep straight into the Great Langdale valley with walks to Skelwith Bridge and Loughrigg tarn close by. 2 mins walk from fab pub - Britannia Inn which is cosy, welcoming and serves great food. Overall would definitely recommend return.

Great location with lovely views and plenty of walks from the door.

Previous reviews about the decor slightly exaggerated (unless it has been recently improved) as it seemed reasonably clean and fresh. However there were a few issues worth noting: The dishwasher was faulty on arrival and we reported this after a few failed attempts to wash dishes but it could not be fixed in time. Disappointing as we suspect it had been faulty for some time. The property was very cold (early March) despite the heating coming on, with condensation on the windows. The fire in the living room helped but you will need to buy your own logs and kindling and firelighters and bring plenty of jumpers or spend time in the Britannia Inn, 3 mins walk away which is lovely and warm! The shower (over the bath) was powerful but it meant that the hot water ran out very quickly - two 3 min showers and it was done! I'm not sure how a family would have had enough hot water despite it being a three bedroom place. There were no instruction leaflets in the place. Not clear when the heating was timed to come on, or where the control box was located. Had to look at old reviews to find and press advance. Warning if you are tall - beds are not designed for tall people and are fairly narrow. There is also no phone signal inside the cottage (we could occasionally get some outside in the village) although wifi strong.
