Merlin was nice, clean, cheery accommodation which met our needs.
It was better equipped than most holiday lets which felt thoughtful. Some places you canât visit the loo on arrival without unpacking soap but in Merlin there were supplies of kitchen cleaning materials, dishwasher tablets, laundry capsules, toilet paper etc. There was also good WiFi & excellent tv provision, not just freeview. And a tv in the master bedroom. Which was nice. If you are happy to drive everywhere & do not mind your immediate surroundings I would recommend Merlin. If you donât mind long walks you can access at least 3 beaches on foot. However, Malborough is not nice at all. The village centre is moderately pretty (nice, historic church), but tiny with no pavement & a constant stream of traffic making it hairy to walk through, especially with dog & kids. The location of Merlin is a massive built up council estate with so many parked cars it can be hard to get off the driveway. There are countryside views. The walk from Merlin to the village is an exercise in dodging dog poo. We love dogs but it felt like going back to a time when no one bothered picking up after their animals. Having said that, we had a wonderful time walking to Hope Cove (scenic countryside & coastal views), Salcombe (cycle path but next to a road so not such a nice walk but amazing destination) & Soar Mill Cove (pretty countryside walk with coastal views), all from Malborough. Only attempt these walks if you are keen, fit walkers & your kids are not too small or moany. Youâre talking at least an hour each way for all of them. The South Hams is a stunning area we loved exploring.

We absolutely loved our stay in this quaint village. The accommodation was pristine clean, the view wonderful, the owners accommodating and helpful, and the local areas stunning. The garden overlooks picturesque fields, several which are available and perfect for dog walks, whilst others give you a lovely view of cows grazing and general farm life. The garden itself is fenced, with metal fence mesh behind it to ensure your pooch won't take themselves on walkies without you. Inside you have all you need, with WiFi, Netflix, all your expected utilities, heating (and a log burner), a powerful shower and a good sized bath. An upstairs and a downstairs toilet also makes things a lot nicer for a family. The local pub is but a few minutes walk away and the people there are very friendly and offer good quality food. Tiverton is the closest town we used and is around a 20 minute drive, is a nice place to visit, and have a really nice view of the river running through it via a bridge and a walkway running next to it. After having several holidays in a row that were more hustle and bustle, this was literally and figuratively a breath of fresh air and has made us put Devon at the top of our list of holiday destinations next year! Highly recommended, and from the communication we've had with the owner, it is a place they genuinely want to pour their love and passion into.

Trill is an absolutely beautiful house set in beautiful rolling countryside.
Beer and Lyme Regis are a few minutes away in a car and the local pub is friendly. Basics were to be found at the local garage, either a five minute drive or a highly recommended and beautiful walk away. There are a few bit that could be better but overall it was a beautiful base for a lovely holiday. Some of the furniture was broken (although usable) and the lack of usable Wi-Fi made itself felt with two teenagers in the house. The road in is pretty awful too, but take it slowly and watch out for the potholes and youâll be fine. Donât let this put you off though, being a bit off the beaten track puts you right in heart of the countryside. The local wildlife was a constant joy, with red deer, birds of prey and a menagerie of other species all making an appearance in the beautiful grounds. For eating out River cottage is just around the corner (if you havenât been, go, itâs incredible) and the local pub serves good honest food too. Faultless? No but the positives of Trill far outweigh any of itâs faults. Highly recommend!

Four adults and one dog enjoyed a very comfortable week in The Mews.
Andy and Charmaine were very friendly and welcoming but didnât crowd us at all. The Mews is in a good location and feels remote enough to be peacefully quiet but only 15 mins away from Bovey Tracey and shops. Ducks and geese were our neighbours! Ideal for a recharging holiday. Nice and clean, very warm with plenty of hot water. The outside tap is a real bonus for washing muddy paws after walkies. Dog leg-stretching a little bit limited without walking down the lane but Andy mentioned plans to expand the fenced area which would give dog-guests more space to roam. He also offered to dog-sit if we wanted to go out, which although we didnât need to take advantage of this time is still really appreciated. Lovely fresh scones (huge!), a pot of jam and clotted cream awaited us on arrival which started our Devon holiday in the best way. We look forward to our next visit!

A lovely house set in countryside surroundings that offer a super relaxing holiday setting. We stayed over Christmas and the house was decorated with a Christmas tree and lights which was a lovely touch. We found the kitchen to be well equipped, a selection of games available along with an ironing board and iron should you require it during your stay. The beds were super comfy with great views of the surrounding countryside from the double bedroom at the back. The wood burner created a lovely warm atmosphere which added to the Christmas feel. The Smart TV was perfect for two teenagers to find entertainment along with the requisite WiFi! All in all, a wonderful house to spend a week in Devon.
