What our customers say about their holidays

    • Christopher - Verified booking

      Very disappointed with en-suite.

Expected it to be with main bedroom but with bedroom 3, smallest one (large single?) and the one without a view. Electric shower more of a drizzle and difficult to set temperature so potentially dangerous when suddenly becoming very hot. Door opened wrong side, by shower unit and onto radiator and WC. Nowhere for toiletries. Cistern overflowing into pan. Cloakroom basin so not useful in en-suite. Fanlight window handle extremely stiff. Dreadful toilet rolls and only two provided for six people. Cistern flush button in toilet could stick causing continuous flow of water into pan. Fridge missing two shelves and no bar on bottom door shelf so couldn’t store milk there. Worktop damaged. Furniture cheap and cheerful. No apparent way of receiving normal (BBC, ITV, C4) TV, only apps. Some rust on patio furniture so wary of clothing stains/damage. Shortage of drinks glasses (none for g&t for example or for soft drinks) and yet copious amounts of crockery and cutlery. Externally property tired. Cracks in walls and patching and repainting required as well as good clean of soffits etc. Entrance to driveway needs to be widened by a metre. Dustbin too small for six people’s waste - on arrival already half full from previous guests and two-thirds full on departure. Everything goes in; no separation of recyclables. Wi-fi connection good but asked not to download large amounts of data (?) so possibly not good for children - or certain types of working from “home”! Mobile signal (EE) acceptable. Also, threatening a £50 per hour charge for late departures raised a laugh; we were gone by 10. Redeeming features? View and peace. Good location outside of school holidays. All in all, someone paying c. £2,500 for a week will probably have more comfort at home and wouldn’t expect to go down market for that amount of money. Well over-priced. Can’t do much about the en-suite but definite room for improvement in comfort and welcome.

Overall we had a lovely stay at this property and there were many wonderful features.

The space, the storage, parking, hot tub, all contributed to our ability to relax and enjoy ourselves. We slept well, and the beds were as described, zip-link, so that wasn’t the shock to us as it seemed to be for others. Bathrooms and towels were lovely and there was plenty of hot water and good water pressure in the shower. The kitchen was well equipped and can’t be improved, the fridge freezer was excellent. However, there are some negatives and whilst we don’t want to overly criticise, some comments are necessary. Our first impression was spoiled as we walked into the garden to be met with overgrown “grass” which was just a collection of long weeds. It looked so scruffy and we were disappointed. No one came during our stay to cut this, so I’m not sure what the arrangements are. It shouldn’t be something that a guest should have to feed back - grass grows, so you need a regular gardener. Indoors the property looked great at first glance and on the surface but the place is starting to look scruffy and not well cared for. I doubt the king size bed downstairs has been moved in months to be cleaned under, as it was dreadful. We always check whether anything has rolled under the bed before we leave and were horrified by the debris and thick dust that had clearly built up over time. The bed is on a hard floor so is easily movable. We booked a couple of months before the date of travel and therefore the price we paid was lower than usual, so we still feel that we had fair value for money when we take into account the cost of running the hot tub etc. However, looking ahead at the normal weekly cost, it can’t be justified for us, as this property needs some attention if it is to compete with other similar sized properties with the same facilities that we have also stayed in.

Lovely house in a fab location!

We were a family of 5 (2 parents, 2 children and a grandparent). The house was suitable for all. Lots of space and the open plan worked better than I expected -we have family nearby and they were able to visit us. Lots of films and games which we took advantage of due to back to back storms meaning we didn't get out as much as we had planned. The sofas are soft for relaxing in the living area, but firmer in the conservatory if preferred, and the large dining table is great to seat everyone around. The kitchen has everything you'd need and more. The tea, coffee and milk provided on arrival were much appreciated! The bathrooms were clean and had mini soaps etc. Showers good and bath amazing! The beds are all zip up which is in the description, so you do feel the join in the doubles. We all slept OK though. Hot tub was a hit and used most days. The garden and parking are great features to the property as I'm informed there aren't many of either in the area. At most a 10 minute walk to Porthmear beach one way or the town centre the other direction (a bit longer coming back up the hills!) We are certainly considering returning. A couple of tips if you do come here - follow signs to Tate St Ives from the A30 (it avoids the town center); book evening meals in advance; go to the surf school; visit St Ives bakery; walk around all the seafront and Harbour. Enjoy this wonderful part of the country! Spernenwyn has everything you could need as a home from home. The only things we missed were oven gloves and a bottle brush to clean our reusable water bottles. One thing to note is if you have younger children all the external doors (5 around the property) can be opened from the inside.
