What our customers say about their holidays

    • Michelle - Verified booking

If you have come across this house on your holiday search then stop looking as this property is stunning yet incredibly homely.

If you love a view, well, who doesn’t ? this home offers a different view from each window that changes throughout the day. You can see a lot of thought has gone into getting this home ready to welcome guests, for me it’s always the little things,a pint of milk in the fridge, tea & coffee left for arrival, towels & tea towels, toilet paper, washer & dryer which means one less job when you have to leave and can arrive back home still relaxed from the sea air & views, there are also books, dvd’s, games, binoculars, Alexa speakers, coffee machine for ground coffee, a huge, modern fridge/freezer, the tv set up is a bit complicated if you’re used to just turning the tv on and watching the tv, I’m sure your tv has DVB so no need for the freeview box ?but I work in this industry so I was the one holding 3 remotes, loading the dvd & finding the right programs ! The garden does state it’s enclosed which it isn’t fully so if you have a dog or small child they will need supervision, the balcony is enclosed and has enough furniture to enjoy an morning cuppa, alfresco dining or just a glass of wine while soaking in the views plus it was perfect for my puppy to lie on in the sun (when we had some) ! Every seat in the living room has a different view and there are more than enough furniture for a large family. The bedrooms are all large and have enough hangers and drawer space in each room and the beds are large and comfortable. The driveway fits 2 cars but we parked on the roadway covering the drive due to steepness as our car boots wouldn’t close as the sensors see the drive as an obstruction but that’s BMW for you ! Could do with a bin outside instead of in the garage as we couldn’t locate garage key but this is not a negative just a suggestion. Looe island view was warm, comfortable, homely and welcoming. A true 10 out of 10

We were extremely disappointed with this property.

The price for the week was on offer so we paid nearly half price plus additional fee for two dogs, if we'd paid the full price I would be asking for a refund. It is a spacious and light property, downstairs is comfortable and having an enclosed garden with dogs is a real bonus. However, it was not very clean, the downstairs windows were cloudy inside the double glazing and the windowsills covered in dirt. The plastic cover on the dining table was sticky and curled up at the edges. Although big enough to seat 5 or more you can't get the chairs around it as it is pushed into the corner and very close to the sofa. The cutlery is very cheap and nasty and one cupboard had a load of out of date food in it. The freezer drawers were dirty. The cupboard under the stairs was a mess. The bedrooms were all very nice, comfortable beds and nice furniture. The carpet however was a hard scratchy material and there are a number of stains on it. It was not nice to walk on with bare feet. The main bathroom was large and towels provided were lovely. There needs to be a warning about the shower, it has a very high step up into it and nothing to hold onto when getting out, this would definitely not be easy for someone with mobility issues or an elderly person, I am not surprised there are no photos of the shower as it has a lot of black mould around the door and bottom of tiles. The shower in the top bedroom is over a bath so not able to use this as an alternative. The bedroom balcony is not lovely as described, it has two dirty tatty garden chairs on it and the decking is dirty. The cottage is well positioned, near shops and a short walk to the beach. It is in a quiet area and has nice lawns to the front.

I have been staying at White Duck cottage for quite a few years now.

I try to have two weeks in May and again in September. To me, it is the ultimate in relaxation. It’s comfortable, simple, well equipped, uncomplicated. I like that it is nestled in a local community. The cottage is exactly as described. It is always clean and very well maintained. Emily looks after the housekeeping, brilliantly, and is always available should there be any issues. In the years I have been staying, there have been no issues. Martine, the landlord sends a welcome email prior to the holiday, and he is also available should there be any queries. The cottage is extremely well situated. You can easily walk to the shops and a variety of good restaurants and pubs. I like to walk, and generally spend the first few days walking along the coastal path directly from the cottage, without having to drive. I can be on the beach within 20 minutes, including stopping to buy a pastie for lunch. There is good local information in a Binder and a whole area OS maps to help you navigate. But my advice would be to just go and explore. Neighbours are friendly, and more than happy to chat if you take a moment. I have always felt welcomed into the community and able to feel the real warmth of Cornwall. You can almost smell the best pastie shop in Cornwall from the cottage. Parking isn’t always available directly outside the cottage, but it is always available close by. I haven’t found that a reason to spoil my holiday. However, there is a reason why this cottage is always booked. If you want pampering go to one of the many Cornish hotels, if you want real Cornwall, I recommend White Duck cottage. Paul

We arrived after a 6 hour drive parked the car and then looked for the keysafe, which we couldn't find.

Rang Sykes as we were very tired and needed the loo. Sykes duly contacted you and said you would be in touch shortly. You weren't! We were pretty upset by this time as no-one from your company had bothered to ring us so rang Sykes again who contacted you a second time to get this situation sorted out. A neighbour who had also just arrived, heard what I was saying to Sykes and after a while we realised that the car parking was at the back of our our property - Flotsam - no. 87 and not at the front. All the other houses in our terrace had key safes near the back entrances except for ours and no. 86. This meant that we had to walk down the hill to the end of the row, go accross the side of the last house and then walk back up the path to get to the front of the house where there was not one but TWO keysafes. Finally, after a lot of unwanted hassle, we could get in. We were considerably upset by this experience as it would have been so easy to get in through the back entrance had there been a key safe there to enable this. We are both disabled and in our 80's. Luckily it wasn't raining or one of us would have been soaked by the time we got around to the front door. Not having one of those key safes near the back door is definately not user friendly and there is no mention of having to do the hike around the houses to get to the front. After a long and tiring jpurney this is not acceptable.. There is also no dishwasher in the property even though dishwasher tablets are being left for its use and there is no dryer either. What a fiasco that we could definately have done without!!

      Absolutely amazing.

We booked Carne Mill for a week in Feb as it was our 50th, and our Son's 25th, wedding anniversaries, our daughter & son-in-law also joined us. We travelled down through Storm Dennis which was interesting to say the least, especially crossing Dartmoor! 30mins before arriving we received a call from Pippa telling us that the storm had brought down the power lines to the house. Pippa was most concerned and was working frantically to get things sorted. We stopped off & bought some candles & when we arrived, at dusk, found the housekeeper, local electrician & the Electricity board all working hard to sort the problem. Not to be deterred we settled down to a romantic candle-lit evening of wine cheese & crackers and retired for the night. :-) The Electricity board worked through the night & power was restored by the following morning. What a delight Carne Mill turned out to be. The accommodation was spacious and of the highest standard. The kitchen had everything you could need & the bedrooms were a delight. Getting up in the morning & looking out over Gillan Creek was so restful and we did several walks straight from the house. The two swans in the creek would come over whenever we went outside and would happily take food from your hand. Right at the edge of Gillan creek, Carne Mill is perfectly placed for visiting the whole of the lizard. We enjoyed walking at the coast path from Kynance Cove, Church Cove and Helford & watching the breakers crashing at Mulion. We would thoroughly recommend this property.
