What our customers say about their holidays

    • Zayne - Verified booking

This cottage was absolutely stunning and the stay was amazing!

The pictures really do not do it justice! If you are looking for a luxury countryside escape, this is the place for you. The scenery was out of this world and nothing can compare to watching the sunset in the hot tub. It was blissful. The pictures only show two bedrooms when in fact it actually has three and the entire house is just beautiful. You can really tell that they take real pride in their property and 5 stars is more than deserved. The owners have really gone out of their way to make sure that the house has everything you could possibly need and the place is so clean and comfortable that it really feels like a home away from home. All you need to bring is your clothes, toiletries and food. Everything else is waiting for you and we even arrived to some Prosecco and chocolates which was an unexpected and lovely gesture. Around the house there is also lots of leaflets and information about fun things that you can do during your stay which was super helpful and there were even local takeaway leaflets should you need them. The house is attached/next to the owners house but do not let this deter you as the lovely owners didn’t bother us once. We had complete privacy and felt as comfortable as we would have felt in our own homes and we really didn’t want to leave! The owners were very friendly and introduced themselves when we arrived and then left us to it for the whole weekend, but were just a call away should we have needed anything. Had they not introduced themselves, we would have never even known they were there. That’s how much privacy we had! Thank you for the stay!!

      The property itself is lovely.

The views from the living room windows, out to sea are beautiful - the pictures on here don’t do it justice. The cottage is well equipped and has everything you need. It’s a great space and the open plan living is ideal. Owners were friendly. There were however a number of niggles - the cottage was freezing when we arrived and it took almost two days to heat up (underfloor heating and there is no fire etc for instant heat), the stairs creak badly, Wi-Fi doesn’t exist downstairs, tv in the living room is an old smart tv and therefore you can only get Netflix (not the end of the world but would have been useful in the evenings), parking is at the back of the property (not the front as the pictures would suggest - that’s for the owners!), the freezer is downstairs at the back door (again, not the end of the world - just an inconvenience, especially when there is space at the top of the stairs for it!), the hot tub (which was lovely) is situated in front of the cottage - across the area where the owners park. We felt that the pictures on the site are misleading about the parking and location of the hot tub. Both double beds were uncomfortable, though as we were leaving there was a mattress which was waiting to be brought in - so hopefully that will fix one of the beds!

A group booking so only speaking from my perspective (although the sentiment is shared).

We had a wonderful stay. It's a cute cottage (I actually learned that Bwthyn is Welsh for cottage) that is perfectly located for those who want some adventures in the mountains but would like a real bed, real showers and real amenities. We were super lucky with the weather (when is North Wales EVER 30°C?) so we didn't require the washing machine or log burner but it's good to know that it's there. The location is nice and remote and provided us with some wonderful stargazing opportunities from the hot tub. The cottage is situated on a working farm so do expect the farmer to be cutting about doing Gods work. Ioan (the farmer/owner) is an absolute diamond bloke. I really enjoyed chatting with him about the area and its history, the history of his family and farming, solar power and other things. The cottage was clean and welcoming, you'll need to bring toilet roll, extra towels (for the hot tub) and a few odds like washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets (although we left a ton there for the next guests) etc. As I said, I really loved the stay and will most likely be booking it for another time of year to get a different experience of North Wales and it's incredible scenery.

This was a very special holiday for me because I was evacuated to Wern Olau at the outbreak of World War 2 in September 1939.

I was an evacuee for about a year before returning home to my parents in Sheffield, but I remained in touch with the Owen family for many years, and I think my last visit to the farm was in 1968 when I camped there for two or three nights with my wife and young family. However I never lost my love for North Wales and in my climbing years visited many times, but my return to Wern Olau last week was very very special, and my wife and I received a great welcome from Lena and Dewi. I think they have made a brilliant conversion of the oldest part of the property, and of course I was able to tell them exactly what went on each part. You probably know that the master bedroom area was a byre for 7 or 8 head of cattle. Of course the absolute highlight of the new layout is the upstairs living area from where Wern Olau's greatest asset is best accessed; I refer of course to the wonderful view across the sea to Anglesey which still entrances me even after 80 years. As a bonus we were able to watch the most wonderful sunsets on four of the five night we were at the cottage. We would book the cottage for a lot longer next year, if only we could be sure ofour continued mobility.
