We recently stayed at the cottage at the end of September for a week.
It was the perfect retreat for me, my husband and our small dog. The cottage was very well equipped and has everything you need for a self catering stay. The owners left wine, milk, crisps & biscuits for our arrival which I thought was a really nice touch and very appreciated. There was a limited amount of wood for the wood burner but after a text to the owners, a box of wood was delivered straight away. The owners live on the property and are always just a phone call away if you need anything. The cottage was very clean and there is also cleaning products & equipment as well as a washing machine which was handy as we were there for a week. The cottage is situated perfectly if you are wishing to visit tourist attractions of the Peak District. Everything is within a short distance from the cottage. There are supermarkets 10-15 minutes away. Good local pubs include The Tickled Trout in Barlow and the Royal Oak at Millthorpe. The area is perfect for walks. The cottage has amazing views over the countryside. The cottage sits on the road and at times the traffic came past at high speeds. Not a negative comment towards the cottage as this is obviously out of the owners hands but just something to keep in mind if you are taking small children or pets. There is parking on the grass next to the cottage for one vehicle which was perfect for us and made loading / unloading a lot easier! The cottage sleeps four but there was only two of us plus our dog so I canât comment on how suitable it would be for four people, but for us it was ideal. The only very small negative I had was the sofas are a tad uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time. It wasnât a huge issue for us for the most part as we were out for most of the days exploring however we had one rainy day where we decided to stay in. Overall the cottage was fantastic and in a great location. I would highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit the Peaks! We will definitely be back.

- [ ] The main bedroom is lovely and very big and the bed is great.
Very comfortable. However, there is a skylight window directly opposite which doesnât have a blind or curtain so at 4am - wakey, wakey! - [ ] Kitchen is fine and a nice room to sit in. The oven needs replacing though as the top part appears to work but at a very low heat. Took 30 minutes to cook a baguette (normally 10). Bottom main oven doesnât work at all. No markings on the knobs or any instructions. All the crockery needs replacing too as it has chips on. - [ ] Living room is a nice size but can be chilly and feels dark. The sofas are completely worn out and collapsed, definitely in need of replacing. - [ ] No welcome pack with any details in about bins, when to put them out or where. Having some local info might be a nice touch with directions to local walking routes maybe? - [ ] The Billiard table is positioned against a wall and is wonky and worn out. The skittles are so worn out and chewed that they donât stand up making the table unusable - [ ] The hot tub is old, with some cracks in the laminate base but is actually really good with fantastic powerful jets. However, itâs inside a small shed and the cover is completely broken so that the only way to remove it to use the hot tub is to fold it back and then on to the floor. The problem is that it is then almost impossible to pick up and put back on the top due to the lack of access around the tub. Great hot tub, needs a new cover! - [ ] The Sauna is brilliant. Lovely and clean and works great - [ ] The farm itself is lovely and the cottage is situated with easy access. Itâs handy for your dog to wander around in a safe area and it can also access the field as well for a wee at night On the whole, albeit itâs nice enough for a few days I wouldnât want to stay for a week. It just feels a bit run down and not looked after. I think the owners would benefit from staying it it themselves for a couple of days to see it as a visitor does

Upon arrival the place was dirty full of cobwebs so not been cleaned for a bit ...
Upon arrival the place was dirty full of cobwebs so not been cleaned for a bit There was nothing to clean the place with only a smidging of washing up liquid We had to go to the local Tesco to purchase cleaning equipment inc air fresheners The whole place smelt really bad we had to open all windows fir most of the day to get rid of some of it The kitchen pans and utensils were not up to cooking anything pans again old and rusty There was a small fridge that would not close so nothing getting cold there was an American fridge again this was dirty and full of marks were something had been spilt In one bedroom there were stains on sheet In terms of the location the pics on advert are a little misleading as there is a house across the court yard ( did not see anything of them thou ) The court yard is open not secured and the owners dog kept barking but friendly enough when it got used to you been there Was a bit annoying as we wanted to sit outside You need to be careful as living room is on mezzanine floor so if you had young children you might want to check stair gate There was no welcome pack or instructions how to use anything in the property we manged to sus it out but thatâs not the point there should be information The bedrooms are all linked together so you walk through each one to get to the bathroom Sauna and hot tub were good and worked well again tho cobwebs and dirty The hot tub didnât seemed to be maintained Or was anything to check the oh ect I have photos if required There is a nice view over the countryside I would not recommend this place at all I would have been better camping And if you are wondering I would have gone straight home but we had come straight from our daughters wedding and was having some work done on our house so we had to just suck it up We did leave a day early

The listing states that the beds in the second bedroom can be zipped together to become a super king size bed and that such request needs to be made at least 48 hours in advance.
We made the request on the Monday before our Friday arrival (4 days notice) to receive a response from the owner as follows: âUnfortunately the cottage has already been done and is ready for you. But you could just push the two single beds together.â We were certainly rather unhappy with such a response and asked again for the beds to be zipped up as just pushing them together would not be comfortable - and this time, the owner responded to say that this would be done. The original response obviously did not make us feel welcome before our arrival. Anyone looking at booking this cottage should note that it sits on a rather noisy road - itâs not a very busy road but vehicles tend to pass at high speed, especially in the middle of the night and this unfortunately affected our sleep- and to make matters worse, the cottage also faces another house in close proximity and the woman living in it was coughing every single night all through the nights, which kept us awake! We would have loved to close the windows due to all the noise (vehicles and coughing) but the weather was far too hot to allow it, so we did not have a comfortable stay. Also, although a washing machine is provided, it is only 1,000 spin and therefore, the clothes need to be hung to dry BUT there is absolutely nowhere to do this as there is no garden and no facility is provided for this. Lastly, we note that other guests have mentioned this as well, which the owners have taken no notice of - it is utterly incredulous to provide the smallest tv imaginable for guests! Donât think we have stayed in any holiday cottage that has provided such a measly sized tv for guests - it was just not worth switching it on!

We have just had a lovely stay at The Loft.
The property is in a beautiful location on a working farm. The accommodation is set out well but would not be recommended for anyone with mobility issues. And there are very low beams. Worth leaving a lamp on at night in case you get up and forget this! The owners provide many things that are not always in a self catering property which was great - toilet rolls, kitchen roll, washing up liquid etc. This was really appreciated. It is worth noting that there is a dishwasher although not listed in the features. The hot tub and sauna are a great addition to the property and the owner showed us how to use them just after our arrival. The dogs are just lovely and greet you every morning. They are obviously very used to the visitors and look expectant at breakfast time! If you really donât like dogs, this might not be the property for you! The only thing I would mention is that there are no mirrors in the bedrooms which makes getting ready quite difficult but this could be easily solved. However, this is the only fault I can find with the Loft. Highly recommended!
