We had a long weekend in Rock Cottage and it was a very good base in Bakewell - just a short walk down the hill to the town centre. We tend to just dump the car and walk everywhere or use the buses - so it didn't matter that the parking spot is a bit tricky for larger cars. The cottage itself is arranged vertically, with one room above another. It's probably not great for anyone with mobility challenges, as the stairs are quite steep and you always seem to be going either up or down. It's well equipped and clean, and the bathroom is good, with a decent shower and plenty of hot water. Some things do need updating - the microwave, for example - and outside could do with sprucing up, but these are minor gripes. We'd be happy to stay here again. There are so many walks, in every direction, you're spoilt for choice. It's an easy walk over to Chatsworth and regular buses back. Haddon Hall is only a mile or two away.Bakewell is full of places to eat - the Woodyard was very good and the Wye Bakery (just up the river) is a superb, hidden gem.

We thoroughly enjoyed our break in Rock Cottage. It was spotlessly clean & comfortable. The location is brilliant for walking into Bakewell & beyond to the Mondale Trail & surrounding footpaths. The stairs are steep, but it's a traditional 3 storey cottage so that's perfectly normal. The parking space is also on the small side, but both of those items are explained by the owners in the cottage details so we had absolutely no problems with either. Our only advice would be to consider whether a larger bed without a footboard might be possible by turning it around as it with one of us over 6ft it was a bit squished & do away with the sofa bed & get a normal sofa, as it's the not the most comfortable & we couldn't imagine any of our family wanting to stay given the bathroom is en-suite from the bedroom. An oven glove would have been great too. These are really minor points though & wouldn't stop us staying again! It's a great cottage & we'd definitely recommend it.
