What our customers say about their holidays

    • Testimonial - Verified booking

"We really did enjoy our week at Blue Vista and in Carbis Bay itself.

The apartment exceeded our expectations, stunning view, very comfortable, spacious, light and airy and perfect for us all (parents, my sister, 3 children and myself). The open plan layout was great and the use of the Wii and having wifi was excellent. The fluffy white towels and duvets made it very homely and the complimentary cream tea, wine, tea and coffee was all much appreciated. With regards to local restaurants and things we did... we LOVED Becks Fish and Chips and ended up getting take-away from there 3 times, we also had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Carbis Bay Hotel, the food, service and wine all excellent. The Tescos a 5 min drive away was very handy for essentials, as was the CostCutters just up the road from the apartment. We took the train into St Ives and back on a couple of occasions and walked there also, it's a lovely walk and well worth doing. We also walked the other way along the path to Porth Kidney sands, a stunning stretch of beach when the tide is out and great to jog along in the morning. We hired kayaks from Ocean Sports on Carbis Bay beach, but generally spent most of our afternoons body boarding, or just sitting and enjoying the sandy beach and Kellys ice-cream! The blue flag beach with a RNLI lifeguards is ideal. We took a half day trip to Mousehole and Lands End - Mousehole is a truly quaint, tiny fishing village, really beautiful with great little coffee shops. Lands End is pretty touristy, but also worth a trip. We took a short boat trip out to see the seals on the Dolly P from St Ives (£10 per adult £8 per child), it's a fast boat around the bays and out to a small island, we saw 6 of the 40 seals who apparently frequent the island, it was fun and my niece and nephew (7 and 9) really enjoyed it. Loved the scones from Pengenna Pasties, although their too crumbly pasties weren't great. I took myself off to the Barbara Hepworth and thought that was great, peaceful and worth a visit (although still found the staff/curators stuffy!). Blue Vista was a perfect base/home for our weeks holiday in Cornwall." M.Moore

Arrived Sat late teatime , had to spend well over an hour cleaning before we felt at all comfortable to bring luggage in.

Apartment needed high and low deep clean . Body hairs in bathroom cabinet, bedroom blind filthy, body grease on all work surfaces and touch points through out the flat. Chipped crockery, dirty bedside lights, sand and dirt on floors and under sofa cushions.... and much more !! Contacted Carbis Bay Office Monday morning. They sent some one out to look but it seems this is standard that Sykes holidays regard to be 5 star! No feed back given to us .We contacted again Wed morning. Staff came out to meet us but it had to be in their time, to suit their agenda so we had to give up holiday time to meet staff at the apartment .They wouldn't come out after 6pm so we could enjoy afternoon out. We were told this would have been regarded as an emergency so we should have alerted Saturday evening to the emergency number .However even when we highlighted need for deep over haul , the disinterest of the Carbis Bay staff was palpable. Again it appears that the management of the apartment are happy to sell the property as 5 star. Apparently we have to deal with the owner who lives in Australia because that is in the terms and conditions. We booked this apartment as part of South Devon/Cornwall road trip. The previous apartment had been immaculate , managed by the owners who lived locally. As explained to Sykes we had 3 days of commercial trips booked in that part of Cornwall .However we left the apartment early once all the trips had taken place. Didn't want to be in such a grubby environment for a moment longer. Moved on then to another immaculate property . We know what 5 star cleanliness and 5 star customer service looks like. Ocean Shore falls short on all aspects.

We stay at Blue Vista every year and the views and internal space for a larger family can’t be beaten.

However over the last few years we have noticed the company is lacking in the ‘luxury’ it promises. The property was NOT CLEAN and fit for purpose. Dirty kitchen, unclean bathroom floor, hairs in the beds and a thick layer of dust. Then when I brought this to the attention of Carbis bay holidays I was made to feel it was my problem and that I was being too fussy. The house keeper came to do a re clean and offered me some cleaning products incase I spot anything else not clean! Hardly the start of a relaxing luxury break. Also the heating and hot water had been switched off so that was another red flag. In my experience from other self catering holidays, toiletries are provided as well as a substantial welcome pack with wines and treats. Carbis bay holidays provided a pint of milk and some chocolate drops. Again, not really in line with their branding of ‘luxury’ They claim no toiletries is due to the environment, but we holiday in plenty of places that manage to provide these in a refillable sustainable away, still giving a luxury feel. The property location and view can not be beaten but it is let down by Carbis Bay holidays. I will be careful to avoid booking with them in the future. And sadly do not recommend. A property like this deserves to be let through an agency who provide a true luxury and customer service to its customers and Carbis bay certainly does not deliver on this. In fact any holiday home luxury or not should be provided in a clean hospitable state for people looking for a relaxing holiday.

What a terrible disappointment, upon opening the front door we were greeted with an awful musty smell along with dirt and very tired fixtures and fittings.

We encountered, grease, dust, cobwebs a disgusting leaking toilet brush. The furniture on the balcony that was completely covered in seagull excrement making it completely unusable. The furniture is tired and grubby and sofa is well past its best and impossible to sit in. The bath towels were thin and so small they barely covered us, nothing like the lovely plump pile in the photos. This property is completely misrepresented and is a million miles from being luxurious. The view is amazing and fortunately the beds were comfortable otherwise this would be 1 star. The customer service from Sykes and Carbis Bay Holidays was a disgrace. Having asked to be relocated to another property the request was refused because ‘maintenance’ don’t warrant it.
