I was hugely disappointed with this booking for two reasons: 1.

I am serving in the Army and in Jul 23 having booked the property to return home to see my Family I was told I would be required to be on duty over the period of Christmas and thus attempted to reduce the length of my stay by two days.Given that this was 5 mths prior to the booking I assumed there would be some flexibility on pricing and yet I was advised this was not the case and if I cancelled I would love my deposit which was excessive and therefore I could not afford to, 2.Having paid a MASSIVE premium for the Christmas week booking I was astounded to learn on enquiring that there would be no Christmas decorations in the property - the explanation being that the Owners did not live locally and therefore could not put a Christmas tree up for us!,,What an absolute joke. The owners probably don’t live locally as all these holiday properties are owned by non locals but the cleaner obviously does! So having paid hundreds of pounds more for the Christmas week for myself and my Daughter there was no sight of a twinkly light or bauble…I think this is outrageous frankly.I stay in Porthleven most christmases as am at home visiting family from the Army and every property via Aspects etc has made the effort to decorate for Christmas. I shan’t be booking this property or via Sykes again It’s a complete insult to people who use their hard earned cash to support local tourism…

Only one fault really, the boiling hot bedroom.

We stayed 10th June - 17th June and the weather was in the low to mid 20's. The bedroom was boiling hot of a nighttime, even with the fan running all night. Although the bedroom does have 3 Velux Lights, if you open them for fresh air, the noise from the seagulls (mainly) and the pigeons does continually wake you throughout the night, we tried it one night, the seagulls don't seem to rest, forever squawking. But it is a seaside village, so there will be seagulls, loads of them, and they certainly know how to make a noise in the middle of the night. We tried just releasing the 'vents' on the Velux's and whilst quietening the noise of the seagulls, it did nothing to release the heat from the bedroom. We were advised not to leave the Velux’s open during the day, especially if we were out, because in the past the seagulls have got in and spoiled everywhere, leaving a ‘clean-up’ operation. I suppose ultimately, the bedroom could do with air conditioning, but that comes at a cost to the landlord, and would people be prepared to pay something towards the extra cost, having suffered, I know I would. Overall, the property is lovely, no complaints elsewhere, it is only the boiling hot bedroom which lets it down.

A great property in a central location in the village.

A couple of minutes walk down to the harbour. We go down to Porthleven a couple of times a year, so know the village well. Lack of private parking is the only downside with this property, and what would stop me booking for the summer, but in the low season this isn’t an issue as the nearby Kittos Field car park always had space. The apartment was very comfortable and well equipped. A small chest of drawers in the front bedroom would have been useful as there was no storage apart from the bedside tables. As other reviews mentioned in the guestbook, there is noise from the upstairs apartment, not the fault of the guests but you can hear every step on the floor - maybe some extra rugs are needed to deaden the noise? The heating in the apartment is very unusual, radiators are mounted on the ceiling in the living area and on the walls in the bedrooms which are designed to look like art prints. It was fiddly to adjust and get right throughout the apartment as there are separate controls for every single room. We would definitely come back to the Old Post Office for a low season break & are considering Rock Pool House for summer 2025.

      The property was spotlessly clean.

There are a few things noted. The lack of crockery and pans. The blind in the dining area was unable to be drawn up as wall mounted clip missing. The fridge has no ice box, it may be worth noting this The bedroom would benefit from larger drawers, a chair and a bin. There was a lot of noise coming from the pub across the road Friday, Saturday and Sunday night. Perhaps this was because we had the velux windows open so the noise travelled. The view from both windows in the living area is not the most desirable looking out onto a building in need of repair one side especially. None of the above affected our stay and would certainly recommend the area. We went on the Mevagissey to Fowey ferry it was well worth the trip. Unfortunately we missed the dolphins. Had a wonderful day at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. The decor and pictures in the apartment were impressive. The information before hand was prompt and very helpful. There were no issues with the car parking and loading/unloading the car went well.
