"This house is almost a great choice. Unfortunately it is in need of attention. Numerous minor maintenance issues which should be addressed including; no description of where to find the key-safe, loose/malfunctioning door handles and locks, light bulbs not working, one bedroom heater not working, one double mattress long past it's best, no battery in the wall clock, no instructions for generating hot water- all small things which are easy fixes and make a difference. The stairs and upstairs floors were very creaky and noisy. The first person up in the house will wake everyone else immediately. Don't know how it could be fixed but it is a pain when you have young kids. The bigger issue for us was that the house was cold throughout our 3 day stay. Even with all additional heaters switched on, the downstairs never got above 17 degrees and was often less. It seems that there is little or no insulation and a dated, uneconomical and ineffective heating system. The external doors and windows are rotting, draughty and need replaced. The upstairs did warm up enough for the kids but we sat each night downstairs with jackets and/or blankets. In spring/summer/autumn it is probably not an issue but we were visiting for skiing, the outside temp was around -5 to 0 degrees and the house just isn't able to combat those conditions. We live in the highlands and are used to the weather, our own house isn't very warm."

"Great centre for touring the North Coast of Scotland including access to the Orkney Islands by ferry. Very comfortable and well equipped house with complete privacy from the owner's home next door. Bus stop round the corner if you prefer not to drive. Good for cycling too as traffic tends to "take care" where there are cyclists - some steep hills, though! Only one local shop which also has petrol and diesel pumps, although the petrol pump was "out of order" when we were there. Petrol and Tesco available in Thurso 15 minutes away. Beautiful coastline both to the east and the west. The Queen's Mother's former home at the Castle of Mey is a "must see". Good to have such a comfortable "home" to return to."

"Although my comments appear out of synch with previous visitors to this cottage who seem to have found the cottage to their taste, it wasn't mine. The kitchen was well enough equipped and the cottage was clean on arrival. There were a number of maintenance issues o/s when we arrived which should have been found and dealt with before arrival, and there was an unfortunate insect/lava infestation which marred the overall picture as well.I found there was insufficient furniture especially in the main bedroom and the the furniture generally was a little shabby.I did speak to the owner on these points and lets just say his customer service skills need honing."

"We wanted to explore the very north coast of Scotland and the cottage's central location was ideal. With only two of us the size was good, sleeping three (there was an unused single room). Ann provided us with a bottle of wine, salmon salad and a serving of pavlova on arrival which was a lovely thought. The cottage had very comfortable feather sofas and the bed linen was the best quality we have had in any holiday cottage before. Tip: Have Ann explain how to use the microwave cooker. It is very high tech!We were fortunate with the weather and had a lovely stay. We were very sad to leave."

"First class cottage, hosts were excellent and every amenity you could wish for. There’s lots to see and do along the rugged coastline, the highlight of stay was a trip along the tourist route A836 to Tongue and then the A838 to Durness, fantastic views of snow capped mountains and also crashing waves against the rugged coastline (A must do for anyone visiting this part of the country) Thanks to our hosts for all their treats including our salmon salad on our first evening that in itself was a welcome surprise after such a long journey. We will definitely be returning to stay with them again."
