"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"The cottage was well equipped, comfortable but a little tired looking. The patio area outside the back was looking very unkempt and although I appreciate it was winter time, could have been kept a lot cleaner and tidier. Although we knew that there was no Wi-fi at the property, what we did not know was that it was in a ‘dip’ which meant there was no mobile phone service (Vodafone). It was important for us to keep in touch with family and with very elderly parents, it was important that we could be contacted in an emergency. This was not possible which meant we had to drive out every day in order to get a signal to contact family. The cottage also advertises a full sky package but sky cinema is not available so we could not access sky movies. We spent the first day of our break trawling Telford stores to try and find a way of setting up something to give us access to the outside world ie a cable to give us Wi-fi or a signal booster for the phone, (as this is what the property owner told us he uses in his property next door) to no avail, apparently you cannot use a signal booster without Wi-fi. We feel that people should know when staying at this property that there is no level of communication from the property (on Vodafone). I can’t comment on other networks but I think people should be aware that they may be completely cut off at this property."

"This was our 3rd visit to this lovely old farmhouse, which we have previously enjoyed staying at with our family. However on this occasion we felt that nothing had been improved upon since our last stay 5 years previous, with regards to repair and updating the property. We have felt very much at home here but now feel that things could have been better. The broken chair in kitchen, broken window taped up in bedroom, pool cues in games room broken, pool balls missing, table tennis bats in bad condition, dishwasher not working properly, grubby furniture in lounge & large bedroom, DVD on blink and no locks on bathrooms just a few things to mention, all of which were in need or repair/replacement on our last visit. Uncomfortable sofa bed in downstairs bedroom, & both showers needed attention. Also we reported mice at the property which were seen on a regular daily basis, which is unacceptable. Would also suggest highlighting the steps in the property as these are dangerous for elderly & also young children. We felt this was such a shame as we have loved staying here on previous occasions and we held it in regard as a special place for our family visits. With TLC & refurbishment this property could be a wonderful retreat for family holidays, but feel that now the time has come for some very much updating and improvement."

"A lovely place run by lovely people. The accommodation is all on one level above a tearoom, with just a hedge separating the canal that runs along side. The balcony gives lovely views across the fields and canal and there are so many different birds, including Tawny owls. A ten minute walk along the towpath under the little bridge will bring you to the Navigation pub, or walk another twenty five or so to the Queens Head (ten minutes by car). We ate three times at the Queens Head and the food was very excellent. They serve food 12pm-9pm pretty much every day, so ideal for families like us who aren't great at organising our day.The Navigation pub isn't open an often, but I popped in for a pint on a couple of evenings and found it a friendly place, with many people commenting on how good the food was. Oswestry is close by with about four supermarkets. The Morrisons also has a petrol station.S82994 is run by Iain and Fiona, who are both lovely and real grafters. The coffee, cake, scones etc. were all excellent and all the food was home made I believe. We were able to use one of their canoes for a day which was great fun.We had a great time and hope to be back."

"A lovely location and a beautiful part of the world. The accommodation is small but quirky and well-designed overall. There were a few touches missing which might be nice to add to make the place feel really special, eg. larger bath towels; some chopping boards in the kitchen; a cloth to wipe down the kitchen surfaces; clean and comfortable cushions to go in the outside chairs (the ones in the utility building were in very poor condition); a large mirror in the bedroom near a power socket; an outdoor dining table so you can have a proper meal out there (there is a small table but it is only suitable for cups or glasses); a folder of information on the location and nearby things to see and do - instead of the pile of leaflets by the staircase and visitors' notes on which pubs they had enjoyed. Also, we bought some feather pillows in Leek as the pillows provided were foam and lumpy and very uncomfortable.During our stay the Wifi was not working for half of the week (though Joe did get it fixed) and the tumble drier was not working at all."
