Staying in South East

One of the biggest attractions in the south east is the wonderful New Forest. A last minute cottage holiday in the New Forest will offer some fantastic walks around one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Watch out for the wild ponies, and cows that populate the region. For children, Thorpe Park is a fantastic day out in the South East, and is easily reached by either car or train. The South East has some fantastic beaches, and Snaptrip has many properties close to the seaside. With stunning beach towns such as Hastings, Brighton and Whitstable, the South East can claim with some justification to be just as blessed with beaches as the more commonly visited South West. The landscape is filled with castles, cathedrals and of course the stunning White Cliffs of Dover, giving you plenty of options throughout the region for your late availability cottage break.

"Holiday home in itself was quiet and clean and excellent location for getting around by bus. However there was an issue in obtaining the security code for the house prior to arrival as the owner did not want to issue the code until the Saturday morning. This fact was not clear from the outside and caused a lot of inconvenience & could have been easily sorted by the owner being honest from the outset and instructing the agent to issue the security code on the Saturday morning which was the day of the holiday let. Took 3 different people to obtain the security code of the house much to our inconvenience. The caretaker/cleaner number in the home book was invalid and caused great inconvenience to the former cleaner when I text her as she had not worked for the owner of the holiday let for at least 2 years! There was a lot of black sacks of rubbish outside the property upon arrival giving a poor impression of the upkeep. I sorted out the rubbish which should have been cleared before our arrival. There was no street parking when we needed it the most upon arrival at 19:30 hours causing great inconvenience with having a car full of heavy luggage to unload. Double yellow lines and no parking available upon our arrival. The fence in the back garden was not complete leaving a huge gap at the top of the fence - so unsuitable for anyone bringing a dog. Fence needs to be sorted and enclosed. There was only 1 tea towel and no oven gloves in the kitchen. We bought some and left them in the property. In the bedrooms there was a side light in each room not working. Missing bulbs in the lounge in the ceiling lights. I can honestly say that we left the property in a better state than upon our arrival with no rubbish around in or outside the property.Would stay at this property again but improvements would have to be made."

"S13621 is in a superb location - perfectly placed for the lighthouse, the beach, pubs, and of course the miniature railway which encircles the plot (much to our 6-year old's delight!). We enjoyed locally caught fresh fish from the small shop which is a 10 minute walk away. The house is also a short drive from sweet villages and only a 20 minute drive from Camber Sands beach where we spent a gorgeous sunny day (try to go during high tide though or it's a long way from the dry sand to the sea!).The interior of the house is a fun combination of nautical-kitsch, 90s interior design and some mid-century posters thrown in. It was very clean and functional, especially the huge bath with unlimited hot water! The only negative point, which sadly soured our trip, was that on our way back the owner's mother (who manages the property) called us and accused us of stealing! She said that one of the brass mock-portals that hangs on the wall was there when we arrived but has since gone missing. She insisted that only a screwdriver would have got it off the wall, that we must have taken it, and that we should turn around and come back. I don't know if she intended to go through our baggage or what! We were really upset and shocked at being accused of something so serious that we knew we did not do, and agreed to go drive the 20 minutes back in order to clear our names. A few minutes later we were called and told that her husband had found it behind the radiator and it must have fallen off the wall. Whilst relieved, we felt that there wasn't really enough of an apology given and of course we shouldn't have been accused of this in the first place! That aside though, S13621 is a lovely, quirky, spot for a summer holiday and I would recommend. "I would not recommend anyone to stay at this cottage ever, Isle of Wight is lovely and there are plenty of alternatives-find them. This is less of a cottage and more a terrace house in a not so nice estate. It's not a great walk to the sea, 20mins+ and not a scenic route. The parking is very poor, we struggled and we had a small car, it would be virtually impossible with a larger family car.Which is made difficult because every time you leave you may lose your space. The games room is much worse than the photo and isn't a nice area, the table is old and doesn't play properly. It's not really dog or family friendly, the dog rules seem excessive (they are only allowed in a very small portion of the property). No child friendly safety locks on cabinets, stair gates were weak, DVD cabinet easily knocked over by a child)The dishwasher was a poor standard. The owners also kept our entire deposit because our dog left some hair around, which in my opinion is very over priced. Also the owner did not inform of before taking the money and took a long time to tell us the reason why. They were also, again, in my opinion, a little over the top when telling us about the issues - I personally would not refer to this as 'distressing'.A thoroughly awkward experience, but at least the Isle of Wight was nice to make up for it."

"The house itself was very homely whilst still having plenty of space for 7 of us, age ranges 12-90 years and mostly provided everything you would need with just a couple of exceptions. With its huge garden being a space we used, it did get very hot in the amazing weather we had , sadly no sun umbrella especially for our more elderly grandmother.Be aware that the garden has a lot of mosquitoes which obviously can’t be helped so go armed with your spray and cream. It didn’t stop my youngest daughter from spending time with the horses who gratfully recieved her apples and carrots over the fence of the adjoining field everyday. The beds were more comfortable than other rentals we’ve had so we all slept well. Our knowledge of the area wasn’t enough for us to make full use of what was around us although we did get the ferry over to the Isle of White very easily. The sea city museum in Southampton was well worth a visit too with its Titanic exhibition and again a very short drive. Hamble itself had a few nice places to eat, couple of little shops and a place to sit a look at the boats.Overall we had some lovely quality family time together here and Sandra very kindly let us check in slightly earlier as no one was before us so thank you for that."

"This holiday cottage would be the perfect family cottage but I feel the owners are being greatly let down by the cleanliness. The oven fridge and sink areas left much to be desired. For a country that can't always guarantee the weather, we would have liked to have had a meal in the cottage but I was greatly put off. After having spoken with the owners before our stay I feel they should definitely visit more as the cleaners are really letting you down. Perhaps I have high standards, being that I clean part time. Had it been clean on arrival with no old sponges on the sink used by other people, no washing up liquid or dishwasher tablets were left which I couldn't understand. The washing up bowl should have been chucked ages ago. It is supposed to be white but it's rather grim. There was all sorts of grime all over the sink and round the taps, and the high chair needs attention. After a long journey I didn't expect to clean before I could use anything. In terms of what the property provides its fantastic. Please visit your property. As everything else was perfect. Especially for family's."
