Staying in South East

One of the biggest attractions in the south east is the wonderful New Forest. A last minute cottage holiday in the New Forest will offer some fantastic walks around one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Watch out for the wild ponies, and cows that populate the region. For children, Thorpe Park is a fantastic day out in the South East, and is easily reached by either car or train. The South East has some fantastic beaches, and Snaptrip has many properties close to the seaside. With stunning beach towns such as Hastings, Brighton and Whitstable, the South East can claim with some justification to be just as blessed with beaches as the more commonly visited South West. The landscape is filled with castles, cathedrals and of course the stunning White Cliffs of Dover, giving you plenty of options throughout the region for your late availability cottage break.

"A delightful cottage, well presented, nice and clean and thoughtful welcome pack. The main things that we felt could be improved were 1) internet connection. There isn't any and we could see from the comments in the visitors book that this is an ongoing issue. It would be kinder not to say that Internet connection is provided if it doesn't work. The passcode was provided but ineffective. We were only there for the bank holiday weekend so not a major issue, but it would be for a longer stay. 4g worked on my phone, but for anyone with a device without a roaming Internet they wouldn't have any connection. 2) a washer dryer is provided but not everything goes in a drier and a clothes rack would be very useful. Again others have mentioned this. 3) I expect most people take showers, but I find it difficult and needed to use the bath. It is small, which doesn't matter, but the soap dish is large, overhangs the bath and is screwed to the wall right bang in the middle of the bath and is really in the way. It looks nice, but is uncomfortable in use. It would be my suggestion to remove this and to provide either a smaller one further towards the taps, or just a nice soap and flannel tray to go across the bath so one could choose where or whether to have it. 4) again this is mentioned by many others - the pillows are soft and therefore a bit low and if we were to visit again we wouLd come armed with another and firmer pillow each. So if the owners wanted to up their ratings, we would suggest just that to be provided. This sounds like a list of complaints, which it is not intended to be, as the cottage is delightful and beautifully clean and otherwise well equipped and if we wanted or needed to stay in that area again we would happily see if S13848 is available."

"The interior of the property and the finish couldn't be faulted, it was a comfortable home from home with facilities consistent with the rate charged. However the outside of the property was poorly kept up. The approach is down a driveway. At the time of the visit tall hedges either side had not been cut back and the branches scrapped both sides of our small hatchback car. There is no hard surface access from the drive to the front door, the two gates both have a grass area you have to pass over. At the time of our break (late June) it had been raining. To go from the house to the car meant stepping on to soft muddy area getting decent shoes dirty each time. Also the grass strip down the middle of the long drive hadn't been cut so you could only walk out of the property in Wellington boots. The two access paths up to the house were uneven and unsafe for any elderly or infirm persons and this wasn't helped by the porch light not working. This is a shame as the property is a one storey building which could be very useful for the elderly or disabled if the access up to the property was improved. The porch roof leaked badly also. The weatherboarding and front three windows had not been cleaned for sometime and spoilt the view on to the mature garden. We did contact Snaptrip during our stay and there was some attempt made to cut the longest branches off the hedges in the drive and to cut the lawns which we were grateful for. It's a shame the outside lets this cottage down badly. Comments had been left in the Visiitors book indicating that these problems had been ongoing over a few years."

"We rented Densford for a week over the Christmas break. The cottage is well located, pretty and warm. However, the lounge area is incredibly dark only being lit by 2 low table lamps with no side tables for drinks which could very easily have been spilt on the floor. We had to bring down a bedside lamp and table which improved matters a little but still did not give adequate lighting to read comfortably. Likewise, the morning room area isvery dark and we had to move the kitchen table lamp onto the table just to be able to have a comfortable meal. For a winter stay, lighting is relevant and this could easily have been rectified by free standing uplighters and stronger bulbs. There is absolutely no cupboard space in the kitchen for dry storage so for our stay we had to move china and dishes from the only top cupboard so tins, packets etc could be put away. There is china provided but only 2 mugs and an assortment of smaller cups. All of the above caused us a good deal of frustration and inconvenience. One further point is that there is no hanging space in the 2nd bedroom so if both rooms are being used, hanging clothes all have to be kept in the main bedroom. I would also emphasise the steep stairs which I accept have been stated in the particulars. However, for safety you do need both hands free when using them and I would worry about children using them as a fall would not be broken. I completely understand thelimitations in staying in a traditional cottage but many of the above could be resolved inexpensively."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our winter break at this property. The cottage is warm and cosy as well as being elegant and chintz-free. It is well-furnished and equipped with the owners having an eye for detail and an appreciation of what makes a very comfortable and relaxing holiday cottage. Downstairs comprises the dining and sitting areas with two sofas and a separate kitchen while upstairs there is a double bedroom with king-sized bed and a bathroom with a bath and separate shower. The bedlinen and towels are high quality as are the soaps and gels supplied in the bathroom. The kitchen had all the utensils, crockery and cutlery we needed although our self-catering is generally quite straightforward. The friendly owner provided a very generous welcome pack and offered to assist with any queries and then we were left to enjoy the privacy of the property which suited us very well. There are also a great many useful information leaflets on places to visit plus walking and cycling routes which we appreciated. The village pub, hotel and shop are within walking distance and there is a path beside the road but we would still recommend taking a torch, especially in the darker months. We would not hesitate to return to this lovely cottage in such a beautiful area of the country. Dec 2011."

"We stayed here with our two children for five nights in June. The cottage's driveway was a little difficult to locate at first but we found it on the second pass. The cottage itself looked deceptively small. On entering we were pleased to find ourselves with a lot of space including a good sized kitchen, dining and living areas, and bedrooms. The cottage was beautifully decorated and clean, with everything we needed for our stay including a welcome hamper of food. Wittersham is a nice village. Oxney Gourmet Pie and Burger Bar is on the same street, and the village store was also a short walk away and well-stocked. The location is great for use as a base for driving to destinations in Kent and East Sussex We would happily recommend S41860 to family and friends."
