Staying in South East

One of the biggest attractions in the south east is the wonderful New Forest. A last minute cottage holiday in the New Forest will offer some fantastic walks around one of the most beautiful areas in the country. Watch out for the wild ponies, and cows that populate the region. For children, Thorpe Park is a fantastic day out in the South East, and is easily reached by either car or train. The South East has some fantastic beaches, and Snaptrip has many properties close to the seaside. With stunning beach towns such as Hastings, Brighton and Whitstable, the South East can claim with some justification to be just as blessed with beaches as the more commonly visited South West. The landscape is filled with castles, cathedrals and of course the stunning White Cliffs of Dover, giving you plenty of options throughout the region for your late availability cottage break.

"The cottage is in a good location for accessing many places of interest but it needs a lot more attention to detail. Looks good in the photos but appears to have been tarted up on the cheap. Wobbly wardrobes and ill fitting drawers would indicate cheap flat pack furniture. There was no internet/wifi and although there were 6 garden chairs there was no table or barbeque. The garden had more weeds, nettles and brambles than plants, the only sign of any maintenance was the cutting of the grass. One of the downpipes didn't even reach the appropriate gutter. In the WC the towel ring was broken and the bathroom in dire need of refurbisment. The loo seat was so loose that it swivelled every time you sat on it. The loo flush handle was almost falling off. Two loos but only one loo brush provided and no cleaner. In the hall there was a substantial dip in the floor, it felt as if there was nothing underneath the carpet and you could put your foot right through. In one of the double bedrooms the window blind was permanently shut as the pole to adjust the slats had been broken off. Soap in only one loo, no cloth for cleaning kitchen surfaces and only 2 sheets of kitchen towel left on the roll.I could actually go on but I think I have said enough. One of the most disappointing cottages we have stayed in during our 20 years of taking this type of vacation. Needless to say, unlike the majority of cottages we have stayed in, we had no welcome pack. With a bit more TLC this cottage could be improved to the standard we have become used to.We have made return visits to some cottages but this will not be one of them."

"Nice house, clean through out, Superb Kitchen (layout, and equipment provided), only a 2minutes walk from the beach. Plenty of rooms, and excellent communication with the caretaker/owner. Excellent Chippy a walk away. Zoo and Dover castle 45 minutes drive away. However: Garden, it isn't as pictured there is a fence blocking access to the larger portion of the garden, you only get a square of green next to the patio ( Fence runs from the edge of the house to the exterior fence, creating a square). This was frustrating for us, as we picked it because it looked to have a large garden we could let the children run/ play football in. Mitigating point is that the beach is very close, but when we wanted to let them play whilst Mum and Dad sit and chill it wasn't really an option as they didn't have the space. Some small issues with the downstairs bedroom doors, the door trim on 2 of the doors hasn't quite been fitted correctly so they are difficult to close / open. Fine for adults, but as they were the childrens rooms this caused some issue.Big Sainsbury's closes at 8pm FYI."

"A lovely location, surrounded by fields and trees. We saw deer, a heron and a large bird of prey. Peacefully quiet but only a short drive to the village of Newick where there was a shop and a really great bakery. There were three pubs, all serving food. We had an excellent Sunday lunch at The Crown. The countryside was lovely and there were lots of things to do. We mainly stuck to NT properties and gardens, and had a relaxing break.0The barn was beautifully presented. My parents found the facilities all on one level made getting about easy. Lovely kitchen a stylish dining table with delightful views. My only criticism is that the twin beds upstairs weren't all that comfortable, but to be fair they were probably intended for children. Nice bathrooms and plenty of towels."

"The macerator in one of the downstairs toilets pumped it's contents over the toilet walls and floor running over into the utility room floor and kitchen floor. The owner arrived promptly and cleared it up and arranged for the repairs later that day. We lost the use of the toilet for the rest of the holiday. The downstairs bathrooms had shower taps that were difficult to control the temperature and we had to use the upstairs showers instead. The location was great and I would visit the area again. The garden had been partitioned off leaving a very small garden area for the children to play. Car parking is on a grass verge next to the road and not inside the property."

"The cottage was lovely and warm and I particularly liked the well equipped kitchen, everything was at hand to cook for Christmas day. We liked the location and the unique setting and location near to excellent shops, the butcher in particular, and frequent bus service at the top of the road. Access to the cottage was a bit tricky because of the wintery conditions. We would have liked more description about how to access the key (we have heard of others people having difficulty in different properties) but the owners were most helpful. Dec 2009."
