"I have known Porthmadog and the area for over 30 years, from going on holiday as a child with parents to going there by choice as an adult. It had been a few years from my last visit and I wanted a break to clear my stress, so decided to re-visit. Did the TripAdvisor research and couldn't really see any hotels that I wanted to stay at (apart from the Portmeirion, but that's at a 5 Star price). So decided to see if there was any really good accommodation near the Harbour. I found 2 apartments in an old converted building called the Cornmill. One was a 3 bed called the Captain's Penthouse - liked it very much, but as there was just the 2 of us didn't need 3 beds, so opted for the Harbour Suite with 2 beds (useful for my partner when I snore - lol). It's a good sized apartment with great facilities - all high quality. I think this must have been a recent refurb as it seemed new. Great TVs in lounge and bedrooms. Large walk in shower in the bathroom and 2 excellently presented bedrooms. Apart from the modern elements to the place, I liked the cosy feel, especially one night as we saw a storm move in - the place felt solid - you know that feeling when the elements are throwing everything they have and its going no-where. When the sun is out, the views over the harbour an on to the mountains in the distance are draw-dropping gorgeous and inspiring. We ate out at the Thai Harbwr restaurant by the Yacht Club - great food. Also there are lots of other places to eat out, or as we did got takeaways as we just wanted to relax after our coastal walks. Highly RECOMMENDED 9/10"

"There were many maintenance issues referred to in previous reviews, I actually contacted the property manager while I was there and most of these issues were rectified without any problem -, however it is clearly a managed property and there is not a system of checking property other than cleaning. It has one huge bedroom and another v small one, we really didn't enjoy sleeping in the latter, although it had a storage area and ensuite there was very little natural light. I think it is more suited to 3 not 4 people. Time and time again people have mentioned lack of welcome pack and lack of basics, there were 5 teabags and a packet of welsh cakes but no MIlK! Some holiday cottages have a hotel type box of tea and coffee and milk sachets, But in recent years all cottages have at least a pint of milk and some coffee tea and sugar as an absolute minimum, although many do a lot more. There was no soap or hand wash in the bathrooms. This really is not good enough for a flat which was really pretty expensive. With very little effort this place could be much better, if it charged £10 more and provided welcome pack, soap and other basics. Needs a pair of scissors in kitchen. It's up to you whether you publish this, I just hope you talk to the owner about my feedback and that of others."

" I have absolutely NO issues with their service. The cottage itself, wasn’t the best. It was very dated and could do with an update. The cutlery was falling apart. Mainly the sharp knives which were also blunt. There was no instructions for the washing machine which is really old and the writing on it is faded. It could do with cleaner pans etc. The dining table was filthy, as were the place mats. The sofa was also not the best. There were only 3/4 tv channels. But the WiFi was great. The property was cleaner on leaving, as I cleaned it myself. The garden was great for the dog. The double bedroom could do with darker curtains and curtains on the windows with blinds would be better. It’s not a property I would choose to stay in again. But the area, and the location was perfect for everything. "

"Cottage extremely well equipped; if you think ' I wonder if there is.....?' The answer is likely to be yes. Owner very happy to allow us to kept bicycle in locked outhouse. Having a pub with restaurant in easy walking distance is always a bonus. Enclosed garden very useful for small to medium dog, large boisterous one may get over fence. Also a useful walk, constructed on a disused railway line, about 5 min walk away where I was able to let dog off lead. There were 3 adults staying which was comfortable, much more and it could become a little cramped. There is no doubt the ceilings in the bedrooms are low as the rooms are built in the roof. The room with twin beds is easier to use. If in any doubt about the suitability of the property I would suggest studying the pictures of the property on the web. Nearest shops in Porthmadog about 6 miles away."

"There are several issues which require the owner's attention, not least the front bathroom toilet roll holder hanging off the wall and a broken chair leg on one of the dining chairs. These and other issues are mentioned several times in the visitors book and many have been outstanding for a long time. The place was not as clean as I would have expected, sweeping the floor on our first day revealed much dust and a fair amount of sand. I would also mention, bearing in mind the rental charged, the lack of items of equipment that are commonly found in other places we have stayed, notably a DVD player, a stereo system to enable CDs to be played and a pair of scissors! Despite the above, we have booked again for next year in the hope that at least some of the above issues will have been rectified."
