About this property

When you enter this charming and quirky holiday cottage it is just like stepping back in time! Built in the early 1800s by William Maddox, founder of Porthmadog, Morfa Lodge was originally the old coach house and stable block for the nearby manor house. With antique furniture (the dresser with intricate carvings in the sitting room are believed to be a dowry from 1806) and stunning woodwork, all hand built by the owner's father, a master carpenter, you will feel truly immersed in history.

The bright and sunny contemporary style kitchen/diner has views over the harbour and mountains beyond. There are white modern kitchen units with a microwave, electric hob and eye level oven.

The large sitting room has sofas, a flatscreen TV, dvd and video player, and a stone inglenook fireplace with electric fire. There is even a piano and a lovely leaded window to sit by and look out at the pretty flowers.

There is a ground floor single bedroom and a shower room with loo and wash hand basin.

Upstairs there are another two comfy bedrooms. One with a double bed and a decorative Juliet balcony overlooking the town's rooftops to the mountains in the distance. The second bedroom is larger, and has a double bed, and a single bed in the same room. This also has a decorative Juliet balcony over the cottage gardens, and lovely old oak beams galore.

Feather pillows are provided (these can be swapped for synthetic pillows if requested at the time of booking).

The family bathroom has a loo, wash hand basin and bath with shower over.

There is a sweet little reading area on the landing on the first floor, with an easy chair and lamp. The antique cabinet is filled with a selection of books and games for some quiet time.

Located in a peaceful setting, there is a lawned, private garden (not enclosed) with garden furniture. There is a parking area for two to three cars.

This is an old property, with wobbly walls and bags of character. It may not suit people who enjoy the clean lines of modern properties. However, if you are looking for character, old and interesting then this is just the house for you! Just a five-minute walk from Porthmadog's harbour and bustling town with a selection of shops, restaurants, pubs and the Welsh Highland Railway, you will find plenty to do and see, whatever the weather!

The bustling harbour town of Porthmadog lies on the Glaslyn Estuary and enjoys a stunning setting. The gateway to the Snowdonia National Park, Porthmadog is full of individual shops and restaurants, and home to the Ffestiniog Railway, where you can travel by steam through spectacular Snowdonia scenery, to Blaenau Ffestiniog. The pretty village of Borth Y Gest, with its cliffs and coves, is a short walk or drive from the town. The well known and unique Italianate village of Portmeirion is just down the coast. Situated on a rugged clifftop on its own private peninsula, Portmeirion, famous as the location of the TV show The Prisoner and the final episode of Cold Feet, is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands. The area also boasts castles at Criccieth and Harlech, and superb unspoilt beaches such as Black Rock Sands, where the sands stretch as far as the eye can see. An ideal location for the attractions of Snowdonia and the The Lleyn Peninsula.

We were misdirected by some locals when first arriving at Morfa Lodge which made it more difficult to find than it should have been to find. The property itself is quite a quirky mix of new and old and was more than adequate for our party of 6 over the Christmas week. Morfa lodge is a great location with so many attractions within walking distance : Welsh historic Railways, Port Merion, Black Rock Sands Beach And not to mention other sites such as Harlech castle only a short drive away.

Plenty of space. Lovely and clean and the position of the cottage is perfect.

Lots of character, spacious and well equipped, with lots of period furniture and artefacts collected by (I think) the owners grandparents. Rambling garden which our grandsons loved exploring and easy walking distance from the harbour and shops.
