    Grizedale Holiday Cottages

Nature lovers will love Grizedale as it's truly a wildlife haven. A hamlet in the middle of the Lake District's Grizedale Forest, it's home to the last remaining indigenous woodland herd of red deer in the UK, thriving alongside buzzard, barn owls, red kites, roe deer, butterflies, dragonflies, foxes, and badgers. Grizedale is also the country's first forest for sculpture: art fans will enjoy finding artworks scattered among the trees. New pieces are added often, including a popular addition based on Zog, the Julia Donaldson children's book. For outdoor activities, Grizedale Forest offers high-wire tree walks and exhilarating mountain bike trails. There are also walking trails for all levels of ability.

At Snaptrip we have a wonderful range of holiday cottages in Grizedale for all tastes. From cosy period cottages to modern barn conversions for large groups, we cater to everyone. Bobbin Beck is a delightful cottage in the stunning and secluded area of Rusland in south Lakes.

It’s nestled in a small cluster of houses on the side of Forge Force, which once powered the small mills making bobbins and other things. An intensely green and wooded valley, alive with birds, and almost no passing traffic as it’s tucked away between the two Great Lakes of Coniston and Windermere and their busier roads. There are gorgeous short walks from the door - through woods, beautiful meadows, along streams and across fords - or up onto the open fells (350m so well within range of most walkers) for stunning views across the whole area. It’s a short walk (15 Mins) to the lovely Eagles Head pub at Satterthwaite (no need to get in the car). The bird song here is wonderful to hear - and unusual for the Lakes - as this is one of the most densely wooded parts of England. Once you come to this hidden gem, you will want to return! The cottage itself is brilliant - slightly bigger than photos suggest: - a well-sized kitchen / dining room with lovely big wooden table and all the kitchen utensils you need - opening on to the delightful little garden via a stable door and porch - with plenty of space for walking boots and wet gear (and a small radiator to make sure they’re dry in the morning). We liked to open the top part of the stable door to hear the birds and river outside - a cosy living room with excellent wood burner and two sofas and armchair and a selection of games and books - upstairs 3 bedrooms including one en-suite double and one twin, both with beautiful views looking out over the garden, trees and river. The twin and single room both larger size single beds not the very narrow ones - all the bedding is good quality - the main bathroom has a lovely big bath and a separate shower which is always nice to have the choice - there is also a small utility room at the rear for extra clobber, with boiler and instructions for heating though all the auto settings work just fine - the cottage seemed very clean and very well kept is warm with good double glazing We would have appreciated a bin bag or two beyond the one in the bin but perhaps that was an oversight (we left a couple behind for the next guests). One extra light in the living room would be appreciated (behind the smaller sofa).

The cottage is beautiful and the location is equally as wonderful!

We had an amazing Christmas, right on grizedale for the bikes and the local pub is superb! We had an issue with the toilet there which was reported and fixed within a matter of hours so the after service is spot on! I agree with some comments that the sofas are a little past their use by date but it didn’t cause problems, beds were super comfy! Haven’t slept that well in a long time! Overall cleanliness is ok but could probably do with a deep clean to get to the bits the regular cleaning cannot cover in a quick clean but again, it wasn’t an issue as the usual areas were all fine. The main bathroom does have an issue under the floorboards by the toilet, either a leak or too much condensation but the floor is saturated and you get wet feet when you walk on it! Regarding the neighbour ….. don’t be put off, maybe could be a little more understanding but equally I wasn’t on holiday to see the neighbour so didn’t really matter Overall a lovely place to spend Christmas, the decorations and tree were a nice touch too!

Lovely, very well equipped and characterful cottage well placed for Grizedale and for the major lakes.

The Eagle’s Head pub is a few minutes walk and provides a limited menu and a great chicken pie if you choose to eat there. It rained most of the time we were there (flooded roads were common), but the cottage’s entrance hall is roomy enough for taking off wet coats and shoes. The heating is managed remotely and we found it too warm at times. There is an override option but we didn’t like to touch it. There is also an intricate lighting system. The bathroom light comes on via a sensor and we found it disturbing during the night at times. We brought a supply of cleaning items and tea towels having read previous reviews, but we found these amply supplied on arrival which was a nice surprise. I would definitely go there again -hopefully in kinder weather conditions. It is well placed for exploring by road and off road bike and the roads are a little quieter than some of the more major tourist hubs

Cherry Tree Cottage is in a great location to explore the southern Lakes.

It was very comfortable, well-equipped and (apart from the padlocks on a room upstairs), very homely. We recommend this cottage for your holiday! There was tea, coffee and sugar in the property but do bring your own milk if you want a drink on arrival. Practical details that we'd have found useful: A reminder that the details state that no tea towels are provided. The hand soap was appreciated but you will need to bring hand towels for the kitchen and downstairs loo. There was washing-up liquid but no sponge/dish cloth for wiping surfaces and no kitchen towel. Feedback to owners (not for publication on the website) The bathroom light was very bright at night time and we'd have appreciated being able to switch it off. The property was quite dusty (top of bed frames and horizontal banister was very dusty) and the corners/edges of the room was dusty with dead flies. Cobwebs were noticeable.

This is a very nice cottage, and we enjoyed our stay.

There were wild birds in the garden, deer in the woods opposite and a heron fished in the beck. Lovely, but a little too far off the beaten track for us. It’s a winding, narrow six-mile drive to the nearest shop. We were a little concerned that the central heating had not been switched on prior to our arrival and this made the bedrooms very cold on our first night. However, once this was rectified, the cottage warmed up quickly and was very comfortable thereafter. The beck is delightful but the drop into it from the garden is quite steep in places and our dog had to be carefully supervised after a fall. Although it is cited in the cottage description as a 'babbling brook', we discovered that the beck can turn into a raging torrent after 12 hours of heavy Lake District rain. Even adults need to be careful when this is the case. All in all, a lovely place to stay.
