"The Snug is a welcoming little place that is very clean and to the point. In many ways it was ideal for the purpose in which I was visiting. There were, however, a couple small issues that I feel to mention and one larger one. 1) The front door has no curtain over a very clear glass window; albeit that window is not very big, the path just outside the door is very busy with walkers, school kids and the likes. I became very aware that anyone could look straight in. This also meant on an evening while sitting on the sofa, the property across the street could see straight in from their upstairs window to where I was sitting - there is no way of closing off other's view through the front door and that privacy became important to me due to the surroundings.2) I personally found a similar issue with the upstairs bathroom. While the windows are patterned, that pattern includes very clear areas which allowed me to see straight out into the pub's beer garden. The curtains on the window were netted which again, gave me a sense of compromised privacy. I became aware when I had wanted to shower at night that I would have preferred solid curtains across the window for that COMPLETE reassurance of privacy. In hindsight and upon reflection, I have come to realise that the whole issue of "privacy" felt quite compromised there at The Snug. For this reason, I would probably be hesitant to stay there again. 3) Part of my stay in Cartmel was to do some personal business, so finding that The Snug had secure wifi was an added bonus ... or so I thought. I was, however, greatly disappointed to discover that on the last day of my stay, it appears that someone "hacked" into my email account which meant that several personal emails of a sensitive nature had not gone through to the person for which they were intended. It is only this morning - the day after I left The Snug - that the full realisation of what happened came and I have had to deal with the issue from this end. For this reason, I would think twice about revisiting The Snug. If I was simply walking the area and relaxing, I would perhaps re-consider ... but sadly, this final event has left a little bit of a cloud over what had been quite a lovely stay.I could look past the first two issues to a degree, but after the 3rd issue I am afraid it is a case of "3 strikes and you're out!" It is such a shame because the place itself is just so lovely and holds such character. R.D.County Durham"

"Our party of 14 friends and family stayed here for a long weekend in mid July and had an amazing time. One of the group had a birthday that weekend so we always try to get together. The house was ideal, with lots of living space so we didn't feel on top of each other at all. The house is perfect for a large friends/family get-together.There is one ensuite double on the ground floor. The first floor has an ensuite family room with one double bed and two singles. Then there is an ensuite double and another double with a seperate bathroom. On the second floor there is an ensuite double and a room with three single beds and seperate bathroom. The beds are really comfy and the bed linen was all really clean and good quality. We never struggled for hot water even though all six showers were running at the same time on the Saturday morning. The kitchen was really well equiped with two large fridge freezers. There is a large dining table with plenty of room for 14. There are two lounge areas, both really comfortable. Both have large TVs. There is also a toilet on the ground floor. Outside there is a large table, again with plenty of seating and space for 14 to eat. There is a large BBQ which we used a few times. The house is in a good location, there is a shop across the road and two pubs both serving great food within a couple of minutes walk. The train station is also close by if you don't want to drive. We went to Cartmel races on the Saturday and caught the bus from the train station to Cartmel. It was only £3.50 each return so cheaper than booking a mini bus or using taxis. We had a fabulous time and will definitely look to book again!!!"

"1. Some of the bathrooms and bedrooms are tiny and barely adequate2. The shower in the top bathroom is virtually unusable. If anyone else in the house runs a tap, the shower temperature drops to freezing or rises to boiling. If more than 2 taps are in use there is almost no water coming out of the shower3. There needs to be some system for emptying the bins when there is no one staying. The recycling bins were full when we arrived and overflowing when we left. Surely this is the Caretaker or Agent’s job?4. Although the kitchen is well equipped, there is an element of over-thrift in the supply of things like toilet rolls, tea towels and dishwasher tablets. I have never stayed anywhere where spare toilet rolls are not provided. Six cheap, small, poor quality rolls for 6 bathrooms are inadequate. Similarly, 6 dishwasher tablets for a household of 10 people for a week is not enough. Bearing in mind how much it cost to rent the house, skimping on these things gives a bad impression.5. Five of the mugs in the kitchen were chipped and one of the large cafetières was cracked and leaking. Things like this should be checked when the house is prepared for visitors. Again, it gives a bad impression.6. The position of the house on the main road means there is a lot of early morning traffic noise and very restricted parking."

"Recently stopped at Ellerside and the house offered good accomodation and met our needs for a much needed break with relaxation. Room wise, the kitchen was excellent with all the equipment needed, and the attached dining room made it great for a social breakfast, the formal dining room was used in the evening and a great space, to have two seperate living rooms was great and perfect for space, the bedrooms were well decorated and the beds comfortable. There were negatives which did ditract from our stay, these included a luke warm shower in the main bathroom due to a child lock I understand the need to be safe but this should be looked in to, only one TV in the house and whilst we do not go away to watch TV it would have been nice to have a second alternative, the property is advertised as having Sky inc. Movies and Sport, for the four days we were there the sky box never had signal, this should be reviewed with Sky, the property is on the road side and traffic can be heard from the front bdrooms, triple glazing could be considered. Overall, we would reccomend this property and the location is good, only 20 minutes from Windermere, 4 miles to Grange Over Sands and Cartmel. Go enjoy the lakes from this house."

"We stayed at Ellerside in July and really liked its location, house was comfortable and quite clean. Tips the road is a main road and very noisy in the day but quietens at night but you an hear it from every room. The welcome pack was a quality street bag ! I think maybe update the pack for the price of the stay in keeping with the property. No cleaning equipment in the house apart from washing up liquid that should really be added, a comment before about the cheap towels has not been rectified again a shame as such a nice house, and we had no sky all week like everyone else seems to have had issues I do not think sky is available there so if not just don't advertise it, maybe put a DVD player in the house instead people dont go away to watch TV anyway. The grounds were lovely and plenty of parking , we had no issue with the heat of the upstairs shower (Child lock on it for temperature), beds were lovely and comfy, very quite area barr the road which we liked, overall recommend Ellerside to stay at and will be going back."
