The position of this property is absolutely perfect!

The views through the glass walls are stunning and you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, yet you are only 5 minutes away from every possible amenity in Porthmadog. The perfect base to explore coast and mountains. The house is packed with traditional character but has been modernised to make life as easy as possible. With the exception of the kitchen, every room is spacious and contains plenty of storage. The kitchen is very narrow, preventing more than one person from being involved in the cooking, but it does contain everything you could need, including modern oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, a large fridge/freezer, and plenty of cutlery, crockery and utensils. The garden has wonderful panoramic views with a spacious patio, and is positioned for maximum privacy - you are not overlooked at all by the other two properties on the grounds. There were two negatives for us: Firstly, the creaky floorboards upstairs. This sounds minor, but the loudness of the creak with every step you take in both bedrooms and the landing never fails to wake the entire household. Not great if people go to bed at different times or need to visit the bathroom in the night. Secondly, the property would benefit from a few fans - the internal temperature was over 30 degrees Celsius for the majority of time we were there. This meant we had to keep the glass doors constantly open, and this allowed the flies, wasps, butterflies, bees, and ever dragonflies in. I am not exaggerating when I say that we swept up more than 50 dead winged creatures every day. The property was absolutely spotless on arrival, but it soon lost its clean feeling with the onslaught of so many bugs - no food could be left uncovered for even a few minutes. Nothing some decent fans couldn't fix. Overall, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives and we thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

Pump Cottage has been the beloved holiday home of its owner's family for several generations.

My friend and I arrived to find it clean and tidy with certainly no sign of pet hair or anything strange that another recent visitor claimed to have found. You can see clearly what is in each room from the photos on the Sykes website. The living room is as the family use it and is traditionally styled. The colours are green and red, incidentally, not the curious turquoise and orange apparent on the website. There's T.V. and WiFi . Mobile 'phone reception is best tried upstairs. The kitchen , like the bathroom, is modern. Everything functions. Everything you might need for cooking, dining, storing, cleaning is provided, including washing up liquid. The fridge/ freezer is spacious. There is a percolator for coffee, a kettle and teapot on the work surfaces, microwave above the oven and toaster on the cupboard to the left. The front bedroom is the more spacious. Both contain two single beds with mattresses of a supportive variety rather than the sink - into - it type. There are drawers and clothes hanging hooks on the doors. A hair dryer, clothes hangers and a hot water bottle can be found in a cupboard on the landing. There are helpful notices about the cottage to inform you about such things as the system for recycling and rubbish bins, also two folders of information about local traders, restaurants, places to visit, photos of the area and an interesting history of Borth y Gest village. You reach Glyn Terrace ( or Stryd Pwmp ) via the steep slope of Mersey Street, but you will find parking spaces on the flat opposite the row of cottages.

Lovely stay but we did note a couple of potential issues and some areas which could do with a refresh.

The grill ring in the oven was hanging on by 2 screws and will need fixing. The washer/dryer probably needs replacing. We had an issue on the very last day washing a sheet where the door refused to open. We followed the manual and eventually called Sykes who sent a chap round to get it open. In the end he had to force the lock. This appears to be a known issue with this particular model judging by the same query appearing many times online and even the manual stating to call a technician if this happens. I have to say though Sykes were absolutely brilliant sorting this out though. Really well organised and got someone out later in the same afternoon. Can't fault them for that. The bathroom probably needs a bit of a tidy up - new sealant and a tap was loose on the sink. Nothing bad though as its certainly better kitted out than some hotels we've stayed in! The leather chair in the living room has also seen better days. The location is brilliant though. Sadly this was probably our two dog's last holidays as they are very old now (14). Hopefully we will return with two younger and fitter dogs so we can give the area a proper exploration!

Amazing place to stay, all amenities you need.

Comfortable, fantastic views when it’s a clear day/night. Star gazing was a nice surprise on a very clear night, no light pollution or noise is great for relaxation. We had 2 dogs with us and respected the instructions to keep them on a lead due to surrounding sheep and cattle further along. The dogs loved the area too. The track to drive up to the property was not clear when we booked but the instruction to get there on the day were very clear to understand and after the initial concern driving up the winding road and track over several cattle grids surrounded by sheep we got used to it and found it very pleasant and easily navigated. We felt we were in our own piece of paradise away from the world when we got to the top, but not too far away from what we might need like shops, restaurants, takeaways etc. Not too far to get to a beautiful beach or castle, places to explore like Beddgelert, Betws y coed, Slate Mines, Zip World, Criccieth, Harlech, Llyn Peninsular, and much more We will definitely book again.

Great location , quiet out the way with great views.

House was warm and welcoming with all that you need to keep the family entertained .The only suggestions I could give to improve the stay would be some kind of blinds or screen to the sides of the gigantic conservatory for a bit more privacy from the walkers and passing cars.Secondly an issue raised with a previous holiday review ,for the need to put some kind of fencing along the road edge of the garden. To stop the dogs jumping down. But these are just improvements that could be made to improve on what was a great relaxing break with a massive beach down the road .The property and games room meet all our expectations with a great selection of DVD's to chill out in the evenings with or a good book to loose your self in.I would not hesitate on rebooking this lovely property In a great location .
