What our customers say about their holidays

We had a lovely stay in Smugglers Cottage, thank you .

The cottage was well equipped and in a great position, in spite of restrictive parking to unload. Loading back up was overcome by parking opposite the cottage after 6 pm and leaving by 9 am. There were just a few points that we found in the cottage, which did not spoil our stay, but we felt should be pointed out. A second key would have been very useful, as we could not leave the cottage unless we were together or we had to liase as to the time we got back, or one of us had to stay in! The wardrobe in the main bedroom needs a lower step, as I found it very difficult to get into! The right hand window in the bathroom we could not open and needs to be fixed. As the weather was warm and sometimes humid, the extra opening would have cleared the steam quicker and prevent dampness and ruining the beautiful decorated bathroom. The garden was amazing, but due to the three tiers and no handrails from the second tier upwards, it was difficult to use the garden for our friends who came for lunch. We were ok and used the garden often, but handrails would be alot safer. Again thank you for a wonderful stay in the cottage and we highly recommend it.

We had a great time and thought the cottage was lovely, however there were a couple of things that let it down and I would not rate 4*. 1. The sofas were really small and uncomfortable and most evenings we resorted to lying on the rug. Cosy sofas would transform the sitting area. 2. The tv was small. This is very subjective I know but in the winter nights most people will settle down to a good film on the sofas and we struggled to do this. 3. Bedroom 2 was very small for 2 adults, maybe only suitable for children? The bulkiness of the bed frames did not help. 4. The distance from the car to the property was hard work with all our luggage. 5. It would have been a lovely gesture for Christmas decorations to be provided. I have spoken to friends about this and all have said when they go away for Christmas the house is decorated. We had to bring our own tree etc which was disappointing. 6. I would have given very good for cleanliness but there were a lot of cobwebs in the property. 7. With regard to the view I would personally cut down the large fir tree just to the front of the property.

Perfect cottage in the best location in Beer! The cottage sits on a pretty flower filled pedestrian only path above Beer village. It has incredible views over Beer towards the sea and the little garden is a sun trap all day. The cottage itself is well equipped, bright and comfortable. We especially appreciated the added little touches such as child friendly plates and the child step for the downstairs toilet sink! Our granddaughter absolutely loved spotting the little mice (not real!!) and their houses painted on the skirting boards. The owner has thoughtfully left little homely touches like the well used height measurement on the kitchen door - so sweet to see Oly growing up!!! Also pebbles and shells collected from the beach and painted by previous holidaymakers. The owner is lovely and responded to our messages quickly. Thanks for a magical week (we actually loved it so much we stayed an extra day!) we will be back soon!!

Fabulous cottage , a very short walk to the beach, shops, bars and restaurants of Beer.

The cottage had everything you could possibly need and the garden was amazing. Yes it's a bit of a steep climb to the top of the layered garden but my, it was so worth it with the sea view and views of the village. The beds were very comfortable with loads of storage space in both bedrooms, wi-fi excellent, kitchen fully equipped and the cottage was spotless on arrival. You just need to be aware that the 3 short stay spaces in the road are often occupied so be careful when unloading / loading up outside the cottage as there is not much room for vehicles to pass as you do so. However given we were there on the hottest weekend probably this Summer and at the end of the school holidays, this was only to be expected in reality. At peak times, you might also want to book the restaurants in advance and 2 were closed on Sundays which seemed a bit odd. Highly recommend Smugglers Cottage, we loved it !

The cottage was very cosy and quiet, and on the whole we had a really lovely stay.

It’s personal preference but we found the mattress in the main bedroom to be too hard for us and would recommend a mattress topper at least. Taller guests need to be aware of the beam the front room! The bath plug worked if it was put in upside down. Being out of season there were a few local attractions and facilities that were closed but I think this was reflected in the price and we had everything we needed. The Anchor pub did good food and welcomed us and our dog. The Barrel of Beer was friendly and great for a drink. Lovely fresh fish from the hut on the beach and a well stocked convenience store - all a short walk away. Best of all were the walks with spectacular views, a beautiful place to stay as a couple.
