    About this property

This property boasts character and charm, and is nestled on the old ’Clatterway’, which leads into the village of Bonsall, on the edge of the Peak District National Park.
Walk through the doors of Witchnest, where you will be met by this lovingly furnished 18th-century property, which boasts original open beams and a cosy open fire. Every thought has gone into the beautiful décor, with unique antique furniture, co-coordinating soft furnishings and luxurious drapes. The bespoke kitchen offers all the contemporary facilities needed, with the center piece being a large range to cook upon. Each bedroom has been designed with draped beds and comfort in mind, and there’s no doubt you’ll enjoy a sound night’s sleep in the comfortable beds.
Full of charm and character, the cottage is situated on the old ’Clatterway’, which leads into Bonsall, a quiet village in the hills between Matlock and Wirksworth. With the most stunning picturesque surroundings, two great pubs and a cosy coffee shop and deli, this pretty village is one you’ll love to relax and spend time in.
Bonsall is a village which is nestled in the Derbyshire Dales, on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and has a long history of lead mining, which is thought to go back to Roman times, and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Bonsall’s residents have been involved in the textile industry, pre and post Arkwright. In the early modern times it was on an important salters’ route, and was a staging post on the road between Derby and Manchester. It is just a short drive away from the famous Arkwright Mills at Cromford, with Matlock and Bakewell also close by. The picturesque village of Crich with its fantastic Tramway Village and Chatsworth House and Carsington Reservoir, with its sailing centre, watersports and cycle route are all just a short drive away.
Why not climb up on to Bonsall Moor and marvel at the views over the Derwent Valley. Stride out across the tops of the ’Peaks’ on the Limestone Way. Ashbourne is great for guests who love county town shops. Wirksworth’s Heritage Centre and trail is definitely worth a visit and Matlock Bath’s cable cars are breathtaking. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

"Lovely little cottage with quaint period features and beautifully furnished throughout. We especially enjoyed the open fire and the very thoughtful owner had helpfully left all sorts of provisions for us which was very much appreciated. Parking is a little bit tricky to manoeuvre if you've brought more than one car or have visitors (and I imagine it would be extremely difficult if you have a large car too) as although technically there is space to park two medium sized cars, it is quite difficult to get out again - especially when other residents/their visitors park cars in the vicinity as turning space is very tight. This is obviously not something within the owner's control though and I cannot praise Sandra the owner enough as she was extremely helpful and very kind, it's just something to be aware of if you are planning on bringing two cars, or your car is on the larger side.We also found the television signal to be a bit hit and miss (maybe that's to be expected due to the location though) but this was easily remedied by streaming it (via a "Chromecast" device and a laptop) as the internet connection was surprisingly very good.Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely visit again if in the area as the cottage was very warm and cosy and we felt very much at home almost immediately! Thank you again Sandra for your hospitality and for your lovely Christmas decorations which made an already beautiful cottage even more so :-)"

"A Victorian cottage decoration in style of period . Clever and owners gone to a lot of trouble to get the correct furniture and fabrics . Clever ad we won’t forget this cottage as it was so interesting to live in it for that week . Yes we would stay there again if in area . Kind gesture of groceries tea , coffee and emergency stuff just in case you had forgotten to bring things."

"Lovely cottage, everything you needed within walking distance, plenty to do within a short drive"

"Beautiful home. The owners provided more than expected (bread & milk on arrival, a cake & biscuits to enjoy). They also had the bathroom stocked with shampoo & shower gels. House was lovely and designated parking was a plus."

"Witchnest Cottage was an extremely comfortable stay; so peaceful and quiet! The cottage is very original with its own unique 'knick-naks' which has given the cottage character. The kitchen is big and has all you need; a home from home. The bathroom is small but functional, it is a cottage remember. The master bedroom is very big and with the heavy blackout curtains drawn, the room is in total pitch black. Seriously pitch black. Because of this and the peacefulness from outside, you sleep like a bear in hibernation. The bed is soft but comfortable. The living room is cosy with lots of knick-naks about, which gives the cottage character, but at times if felt 'too much' as I feared I could break something, my wife however loved it! The room has all you need: TV, Blu-Ray player, CD/Tape/Radio player, books and local guides. The cottage has an open fire, but due to very warm weather, we didn't use it.The cottage has gas central heating and was warm. The garden outside was nice, but not 100% private; you can hear the stream which is relaxing. The cottage is beside a guided walk path, so will see people pass the cottage, so don't be alarmed. There is a car park outside the property which can hold two or three cars. Broadband was excellent for the location: 45-50Mb down, 10Mb up.Mobile coverage for O2 customers was excellent, strong 4G signal throughout the area."

"This cottage is quaint and quirky. The owner had provided many thoughtful and welcoming touches. It is however quite cramped and dark- this would be appealing to many of course but not us. There aren’t 4 seats in the lounge."

"a wonderful little cottage, very close to matlock and 2 lovely little pubs within walking distance. plenty of walking trails and the locals are all very friendly. would definitely stay here again."

"Great place to relax and get warm in front of the real fire. Lots of nice extras left to make our stay extra special. Village has great local shop and pub. Lots of things to do nearby"
