What our customers say about their holidays

    • Derek - Verified booking

No complaints whatsoever regarding the property itself which was excellent.

The same cannot however be said of Sykes. We own two expensive e-bikes which are both large and fairly cumbersome. Before booking the property we liaised with Sykes re the bike storage facility advertised as available. We explicitly explained the size of our e-bikes and hence the need for a large storage facility. Sykes went away to verify for us. After checking it was categorically confirmed that there was a LARGE storage facility at the rear of the property. This is a complete fabrication of the truth, as we have now confirmed verbally with the property owner. The actual cycle storage would not even accommodate one of our e-bikes and the "storage" consists of purely a rainproof cover which attaches to the wall by two hooks. Perfectly adequate I'm sure for an average sized road cycle, but that was not what we stipulated when making our initial enquiry to Sykes. We couldn't have been clearer re our requirement. A complaint made to Sykes has resulted in them blaming "human error" which is completely unacceptable. We had taken the trouble to specify our cycle storage requirements. A check was made by them and categoric confirmation given to us that the cycle storage was more than adequate for our needs. Where does "human error" arise? I am still awaiting a reply to my latest message sent to Sykes last week requesting a further explanation as to how errors such as this are allowed to occur. Hopefully they will have the courtesy to respond.

We stayed for a week early March, with our 16 month old pointer.

The cottage was absolutely perfect for us. Suzanne was in contact a few days before our holiday - by phone and email with clear directions and suggestions of places to visit. Lovely welcome pack for us and the dog. Cottage really warm and cosy, we didn't need to light the log fire at all. Pleasantly surprised that we had no noise from the road at all, which had concerned us at first, but it was fine. Two of the main things we wanted was an enclosed garden (it is small, but perfect as we were out on walks every day); and parking (we found it easier to reverse into the space). There are walks straight from the cottage - our favourite was walking up behind into the woods and then onto the moor. But the cottage is also in a great location for seeing the Peak District. We never spent longer than 30-40 mins in the car getting anywhere. We had long walks every day - Mam Tor; White Edge; Birchen Edge; up on the peaks behind Haversage; Bamford Edge overlooking the Ladybower reservoir. Also wandering round the grounds of Chatsworth House. It was our first visit to the Peak District, and we had a wonderful time, definitely helped by staying in Robin Cottage.

Suzanne contacted me before arrival which was thoughtful and gave me useful information about local areas.

She also checked that everything was okay after we arrived. The welcome baskets for us and our two dogs included treats and towels for them, scones and jam for us as well as essentials to get us through the first days thank you Suzanne. The cottage is traditional and has reminders of it's past. The main bedroom had plenty of storage and a comfortable bed and pillows. Bright clean bathroom, kitchen had everything we needed. The lounge is small but okay for two adults and two small dogs to cosy up in on chilly days with a log burner. Small utility room useful for letting dogs dry off in after rinsing them with the hose outside. The 3 steps down into the garden from where you park the car are steep as others have mentioned but the handrail was helpful for me as I have arthritis in my hips. We did two off road safe walks which started across the road and to the right of the cottage just before the Indian restaurant. One way takes you to Whitworth Park and the other to Rowsley shopping village and The Grouse and Claret pub. A great location to drive to other areas and we enjoyed our time at Robin Cottage.

We loved Robin Cottage, a real home from home.

Everything you could ask for inside and out. Well equipped kitchen and bathroom, comfy bed, Free view on television, plenty of books to read, Games and children's DVDs. Towels and bedding provided as well. Furry friends are not forgotten either with treats, towels, dog bowl and hose for muddy paws. A safe and secure garden for dogs and our dog was quite happy there. The road to the front was noisy but with the windows closed this was negligible. Suzanne the owner has put a lot of thought and care into the cottage which we appreciated and we felt if there were any issues they would gave been dealt with straight away. The food basket, milk, butter, bread, cereals, eggs and yummy scones and jam, was a lovely touch which took the immediate stress of going shopping away so we could have a cuppa on arrival. There are some steep steps at the back into the property but we didn't find them a problem. Parking was a bit tight and reversing in was definitely easier but wasn't a big issue. Lovely area with plenty of walks and places to see. We would definitely like to return in the future.

I stayed at Robin Cottage for 7 nights, 31 August 2024.

I was with my two dogs Vincent and Theo, and my friend Lynn. It is perfect for a stay in the Peak District, I walked my 2 dogs from a different starting place every day - the furthest I had to drive was a mere 15 miles. Suzannes directions for finding Robin Cottage were spot on - thank you! The two welcome baskets were top quality (one for humans, one for dogs), the milk/butter/eggs were especially appreciated. The kitchen is well equipped and sitting at the dining table there's so much history to read on the cottage walls. The sitting room is so cosy - I was grateful that I had packed my dogs fleece throws to cover the beautiful fitted carpet - and their beds too, so that they settled well at night. The Welcome Book was full of fascinating facts on the history of Robin Cottage. Upstairs the two bedrooms had comfortable beds and plenty of storage space. I would love to stay at Robin Cottage in the future.
