Also at the rear of this lovely stone cottage is a disused railway line, now part of the local cycle and walking trails it is perfect for taking the local scenery. Nearby the village of Mickleton has two traditional pubs, both serving real ales is a great way to spend a fews hours watching the world go by. Near is the historic Bowes Museum, owned by The Queen Mother, this fabulous building hosts exhibitions from art, fashion & design to life in a Roman town, steeped in English history this purpose built property has a wonderful story to tell. The nearby waterfalls of High Force, Gibson's Cave and Cauldron Snout are amongst the most spectacular sights in the district, and the market town of Barnard Castle can be easily reached, boasting a full range of facilities. The town also offers a selection of shops, and pubs, with walking routes close by, including high open moorland as well as pretty wooded valleys. Hamsterly forest is a mountain bikers dreams, with bike hire available explore the area on one of the tracks from beginners to advanced cycles, with its own gruffalo trail for little ones.
