"The cottage was very well equipped and had good wifi. The surrounding area outside was very peaceful and beautiful being in the country side but still only a few minutes drive up the lane to the village. The nearby pub at the top of the lane, The Rose and Crown, is excellent. There are only two points I would make. The sofa is definitely past its sell-by-date, being hard and flat. Luckily there was another identical sofa in the living area and we put the two base cushions from that sofa on top of the ones on the other sofa making it a bit more comfortable. The bed is wonderful, being a super king size with good quality cotton bed liven. The other point to make is that directly behind the cottage on the same farm there are several artists studios. The road to these studios runs directly into the farm stabling area and immediately past our kitchen and living room windows. On one particular morning there was a fair bit of traffic coming and going, at one point with a vehicle reversing back and forth up the road past our windows whilst another had an engine running. This did distract from the peace. Later in the afternoon the traffic then departed causing more noise.Apart from those 2 points, everything was very good with a nice welcoming pack and very welcoming owners."

"We arrived and were pleased BUT parking turned out to be bad. This place is on a estate, and parking is a huge problem, vehicles park on the verges etc. Kids playing ball against nearby garage doors do not add to the peace. Also trains are noisy if you open a door or window. It could have been cleaner in the lounge - dust under t.v. unit and the mirror was very dusty. kitchen window was very smeared when sun on it. Not possible to see t.v. when sun is in the lounge as it is badly positioned. A net curtain would be o.k. but we had to pull the curtains to see t.v The grass in rear garden had not been cut and was above my ankles. The beds we found very hard and duvets far too hot, but I accept that as a matter of taste. Shower worked well but soaked the window sill and glass partition could be longer to keep the area dry. Lighting in kitchen near microwave is very bad. You have your back to the lights, an under cupboard light would work well there. The kitchen bin broke on first use and I felt it was not up to the job. A big shame because Battle and the area is really beautiful."

"Castlemans Stables is a wonderful place to stay. The property is of a very high standard and the owner goes to great lengths to make sure guests a enjoyable break. The kitchen is already well stocked with the sort of things that are a pain to bring on a cottages holiday (foil, cling film, washing up liquid dishwasher tabs) and there is a lovely welcome basket on arrival. The furnishings are very comfortable. The deck (with furniture and BBQ) offers great views. Wifi works well. There is also a handy utility room (we used the freezer for getting a couple of meals from the Cook Shop in Battle). The position is great with lots to see and do locally. The local village is just right - a good pub (children welcome) and a small shop. Enough for what you need while preserving the proper small village feel. Despite being next door to another cottage and near the owner's home, the cottage always feels very private. The owner provides what you need and then leaves you to have a relaxing holiday. Perfect. This was our 4th visit (family of 4 with daughter 8 and 14) and I image we will come back again."

"We had the best long weekend at the barn. The owners Lynda and Richard are lovely, the live next door but leave you to it apart from a lovely welcome. Lynda made us a gorgeous Victoria sponge and some apple juice, there was also tea, coffee and milk provided. The barn has everything you need. Comfy and cute living accommodation and bed plus a lovely shower with shampoos etc available to use. The garden is lovely and we were allowed to use the orchard with our dog Archie, he loved it. We bought some pottery before we left from Sally, the owner’s daughter who uses the other part of the barn to work...lovely stuff! The barn is just across the road from the rose and crown...a lovely little pub with fab food, welcoming staff and it’s dog friendly too. We would also recommend The Wheel for Sunday lunch, you won’t regret it!"

"Having rented cottages for the past 20 years, we sadly have to be very candid with this review on Ox Cottage We feel that that this Cottage to be very tired, the ambiance was like an unkept back yard, not what we would call a holiday home. The brochure showed rolling fields, they were there but the only view from the Cottage was a desolate yard with a rusty bath and chairs and an old wooden shed. The flower troughs appeared to have been neglected or an after thought. The promise of a welcome pack was not kept, as was the first basket of logs. The heating seemed to have no occupier control. To say we were disappointed is an understatement, it spoilt our holiday, waste of money. Most people only get one holiday a year and it is so upsetting to feel let down like this."
