Get away from it all with Norfolk holiday cottages

Every year, over three and a half million people plan their holidays in Norfolk cottages, and it's easy to see why. From the family-friendly fun of Great Yarmouth to the tranquil waterways of the Norfolk Broads and Norfolk Coast area, to Cromer Chalk Reef and Thetford Forest, days in Norfolk are filled with possibility.

It's unlikely you'll get bored of the stunning countryside and unspoilt coastline, but if you're looking for more things to do away from the nature reserves, fear not. The seaside towns of Great Yarmouth and Wells-next-the-Sea boast independent shops, cultural attractions and plenty of dog-friendly pubs too.

To complete your magical escape to this beautiful part of the UK, book one of our wonderful Norfolk holiday cottages. Whether you're on the hunt for a cosy bolthole for a romantic weekend away, or a sprawling barn conversion with enough room for the whole gang, we have self-catering properties to suit every requirement and every occasion.

Why choose a Norfolk weekend break or staycation?

Nestled in glorious East Anglia, Norfolk is awash with cute coastal towns, sweet and sleepy villages, wholesome attractions, and some of the best beaches in the UK.

Ideal if you need a break from the stresses of everyday life, a trip to Norfolk provides relaxation, tranquillity, and non-stop fun.

Norfolk is home to The Broads National Park, one of just ten national parks in England. This incredible park is made up of 32 dedicated reserves, Norfolk wildlife trusts, and much more. You'll also find a series of charming villages, beautiful riverside parks, and more than a few classic pubs to tempt you.

The beaches are one of the main reasons millions of people flock to Norfolk each year. The county has over 90 miles of spectacular coastline waiting to be explored. Each beach offers something special, from wide expanses of pristine sand and sparkling waters to intriguing rock pools and caves.

Holkham Bay in north Norfolk is one of the most incredible beaches in the country, with miles of soft golden sand, grassy dunes, and lush pine forests. When the tide goes out, the beach goes on for as far as you can see, making it an ideal spot for relaxing, building sandcastles, and even going on a horse ride right on the water's edge.

Brancaster Beach is another popular seaside spot. The flat beach is huge, so there's always plenty of space no matter how busy it gets. If you're a fan of water sports then you can try your hand at windsurfing, boogie boarding, and kite surfing.

Or why not visit Cromer Beach in the traditional Victorian seaside resort of Cromer? The wide beach is made of sand and shingle and many of the buildings in Cromer date back to the Victorian era.

For more Victorian fun, stay in the lovely town of Hunstanton, which is perfect for entertaining the whole family. Hunstanton has two excellent beaches, a traditional Victorian town centre, and lots of top Norfolk attractions close by. It's also home to one of the largest colonies of seals in the UK, making seal spotting a must.

When visiting Norfolk, a trip to Sandringham Estate makes for a great day out. The estate was a birthday present from Queen Victoria to the Prince of Wales and his wife Princess Alexandra in 1862. While the house is still used as a royal residence, you can visit the surrounding 600-acre country park for free, exploring the woodland paths and enjoying a picnic on the open grassland. There are also the gardens and museum to explore, which is home to a fantastic collection of royal memorabilia.

Norwich is a popular city in Norfolk, which might be small but packs a lot of things to do. Discover medieval churches and historic houses down narrow alleys and ancient streets, and pop into a huge selection of independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. There are lively markets to enjoy, as well as museums, galleries, a castle, and the stunning Romanesque cathedral.

It's at night that Norfolk is at its most magical, as this incredible county is home to one of the clearest skies in the UK.

Imagine dining outside in one of the quaint fishing villages, with a plate of Norfolk's world-famous seafood in front of you, and the day's last light disappearing all around. A salty sea breeze travelling west from the Atlantic Ocean fills your lungs, while above you, the night skies come to life with millions of twinkling stars everywhere you look.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Owen - Verified booking

We were very disappointed with the cottage.

It was far from the high standard we usually receive when we book with Sykes. 1. The bathroom was in a poor decorative condition. The radiator was rusty and did not always heat up. The bathroom itself seemed dated and not in good condition. Surfaces had not been cleaned and the shower cubicle had discoloured grout. The toiletry holder in the shower was also rusty. 2. There was obviously a problem with the heating system. When it came on it was very noisy and the radiators did not always heat up. On the last morning we woke up we had no heating or hot water. This was remedied by early afternoon. 3. We used the washing machine, but our clothes came out with black bits on them. On closer inspection we could see that water had collected in the seals and the machine had not been maintained. 4. The outside area had not been prepared for visitors. The outside dryer had algae on it, as did the table for sitting out. The area where the table was situated had not been cleared of moss and weeds. We had a period of good weather before and during our visit so would have liked to have made more use of this. The cottage was spacious for two people but lacked the care and attention to make a comfortable holiday property.

Fabulous place to stay in beautiful surroundings and so peaceful and quiet.

The barn is as described and spotlessly clean and perfect for a couple to relax after a day out in the surrounding places visited. The barn although in a quiet location is central to so many places so it's not long before you arrive somewhere to either sight see, shop or have a quiet drink. Max who looks after you upon arrival is very friendly and runs through all the details plus is a mind of information of all things local and if any issues(we had none) he will sort them out. His wife looks after the horses that are there and is around to say hi to but you very rarely here them considering they are close by. Will certainly return as it was a perfect location for my wife and I and lovely hosts who take pride in the 2 cottages there and the surroundings.

The owners were very welcoming, Nothing was too much trouble, in fact they go that extra step to make sure every thing is perfect, getting me some bread rolls from local bakery day after arriving, anything needed or needed to know just had to ask, And the setting was just beautiful, could watch the owner training her horses, I’m definaitly going to return in the future, and would whole heartedly recommend a stay here, in middle of country side but not far away from anything, 31/2 miles away from a large superstore, Well deserving hosts, they have put in everything and comfort you need for a lovely break there short or longer, well done very tastefully done

This cottage was in a beautiful, idyllic and tranquil setting, away from the world.

Birdsong and the occasional rumble of trains on the Bure Valley railway- a 5 minute walk away up a narrow lane -was all we heard. We spent our holiday cycling down traffic free country lanes and walking along the path beside the train. Moonlight cottage is centrally situated for exploring Norfolk although it was too hot for us to do that. We walked to the river Bure and enjoyed pub lunches nearby. Would highly recommend hiring a day boat to see the nearby Broads. The cottage itself was well equipped for a self catering holiday, and spotlessly clean. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.

First visit to North Norfolk and Cromer - won't be the last! The Coach House was actually choice after being let down on a property in Sheringham. On reflection this was a blessing in disguise. Property is fantastic and ideal for us to leave our car on the drive for most of the week.Recommendations; Gibson's Bistro, No.1 Cromer, The Grove for afternoon tea, and the Old Rock Shop bistro/ West Street Deli. Fantastic bread from craft bakery, and North Sea Coffee was excellent. Blickling and Felbrigg, great for NT visiting, but otherwise Cromer is such a great place to explore.
