What our customers say about their holidays

    • Julie - Verified booking

The cottage was lovely and the owner really nice, helpful and friendly.

The problem was your (Skyes) advertising is incorrect we booked this cottage as we liked the idea of the double Jacuzzi bath the so called WOW factor as featured and described on your site. This is no longer there in it's place is a bath no Jacuzzi. We paid more than we would normally for this reason. There is a hot-tub outside which the owner kindly offered to us free, however we had not booked this originally we had no suitable swimwear with us. Breakfast bar (car front) not there now, this was not an issue but again false advertising. The owner told us they had informed Skyes of the changes but looks like Skyes has failed to update the site and is wrongly advertising what is not there. When we booked this place and it was the WOW factor bathroom that was the attraction. My suggestion would be to avoid further negative feedback you update to avoid other people being disappointed and loss of business for the Owners. We have found a place we want to book with skyes for September but are uneasy as the property mentions hot-tub and sauna but we are reluctant to book as we maybe disappointed again due to possible inaccurate information on site.

Our stay at The Heronry has been bliss.

We can't recommend this cottage enough! We've had such an amazing 5 nights here. We love it and quite honestly... We don't want to go home. The family who run the cottage are genuinely lovely. The proeprly itself is perfect. Clean, spacious, private and the view over the beck, especially in the hot tub is awesome. Can't beat it. Jumping in the hot bath in the morning, looking over the beck is also quite awspiring. At this time of year, we've spotted the heron fly along the beck at approx 8:30am, whilst sat in the hot tub. Up until now we have spent most of our holidays at Kielder Waterside, and The Heronry beats Kielder, by a mile. So we will be booking again, in advance. Without a doubt. The location of the cottage is also very convenient. It's close to Kielder, Lake District and Solway Coast. There's local shops, a couple of miles away, among take aways and cafes, easily accessible by car. However there's a cracking Indians who deliver for free. I could rant on about how amazing our time here has been. Thank you. Its exactly what we've needed. We will be back! See you soon!

      This place is brilliant!

Photos listed don't do the place justice. Lovely welcome from Danielle, Trevor and the dogs. Property was warm and clean, very homely- fresh brownies and a complimentary bottle of fizz on arrival. Very spacious accommodation with beautiful views onto the brook. Lots of bird and wildlife to watch. Hosts always willing to help and even offered us a lift back from Longtown following our walk. Would recommend the riverside walk suggested in the accommodation guide- lovely walk along the river to Longtown (nearest pubs and shops)- we would recommend the Chinese and the Gretna Bakery- both serve excellent food. The Heronry is ideally situated for walkers/cyclists with many trails and walkways nearby- we would recommend Newcastleton for both walkers and cyclists. The hot tub was very welcoming after a long days walk, perfectly situated in a private patio area with exceptional views of the brook and surrounding trees, a beautiful place to sit and relax. 10/10 would definitely stay again!

The place is beautiful, absolutely stunning in fact.

The kitchen is amply stocked with equipment, the welcome tea and coffee were very well received after our long journey. We had a problem with the electric blinds that had not been charged before we arrived, and they didn't have the charger at the main house which meant one of the blinds was constantly down, which was a shame. There was also a rather large leak from the bedroom window, which meant we had to keep towels on the floor. Other than that, it was wonderful, and we were assured the roof was in the process of being fixed anyway. The bed is very soft and there is no phone reception. There are some lovely walks not far which we thoroughly enjoyed, with lots of pheasants! The hot tub was great (and appeared clean), surprisingly no one seemed to walk through the woods, so it really is secluded. There was an impressive night for stargazing from the hot tub, we saw a couple of shooting stars, very nice. They supplied us with flip flops which is a superb touch.

We enjoyed our stay over Christmas but would have liked to be able to turn the heating temperature up or down ourselves.

We would have stayed in the hot tub longer if it was warmer but it cooled down very quickly. We had to clean the drawers and hoover the main bedroom as it was dirty/hairy. We had to wash the bedding in the main bedroom as it smelt stale/smokey. The main bedroom quilt has a stain of some kind on it. The wardrobe downstairs in the hallway had a drawer which was full of slippers/flip flops/clothing so was not able to use it. When we cleaned the main room floor we found under the table was very dirty and under the settee when we angled it for watching tv. The hoover did not keep its charge to be able to hoover one room, we had to charge it continuously which is not good enough when taking pets or in general. We still enjoyed our stay and it is in a lovely setting but just wanted to offer constructive advice.
