Home to the World Heritage Site of Stonehenge, a number of gorgeous stately homes and the Longleat Safari Park, the county has some great days out. What our customers say about their holidays

What a beautiful property set in the most picturesque setting!

We cannot wait to come back! The house itself is beautiful. It is well equipped and so very cosy and warm when it is cold outside. Thank you Annie for decorating it for Christmas and for the best and most generous welcome hamper we have ever seen from a Sykes Cottage until now. It was also lovely to have met you during our stay. We had the most wonderful time and so did our dog. She loved all the smells and the massive garden to run around in. She was quite intrigued by the pheasants that seemed to visit every day and would sit and watch them as opposed to wanting to chase them. The setting of the house is beautiful. Being in an AONB it is surrounded by nature, woods right behind and fields.to the front with great walks right from the door. With no artificial light in the vicinity the sky is lit up with stars at night. It is in a great location, just an hour from Salisbury and Stonehenge and down the road from Avebury. There is just one thing that could be added to make the property perfect in our eyes. There is no fencing in the front garden by the road. I believe there used to be a little picket fence (like what runs around the side where you park your car) but that has been taken out and replaced with very young hedging plants which will take years before they provide any kind of a deterrent for a dog to make a run for it. It is a shame as we felt we had to watch our dog every minute she was out in the front because of the road which isn't a busy one but still is what it is. Having said that, I would still come back.

We had booked a week, but left after 4 nights as we had 2 days when the Hot water wouldn’t work.

Coming back wet and cold from a cycle ride to no hot water was the final straw. The property is owner-run so Sykes only take bookings and are not liable, the owner by his own admission said it ‘probably needs a service!’. He takes no responsibility for the shortcomings and refused to pay any compensation. The best he offered was “You can walk across in the rain to another outbuilding and shower there!” Definitely not what we paid for. The building is a ‘prefab’ , glass all along the front , no opening windows in the bedroom, lounge or kitchen. Bit of a goldfish bowl as walkers on the road can look in, stuffy at night as only option was to leave door completely open and then the local dog walks in. The outlying property ‘walks’ have a neglected air about them as well as being a Scrapyard of old vans and tractors, broken machinery and glass. The ‘tennis court ‘ needs a good clear up - extension leads to the ‘Box’ running across it. Also the trainline passes 100 yards away, not mentioned in the information. The outside ‘Bar’ is a derelict shed and the ‘Swimming lake’ is a pond! It has potential to be a lot better but needs more investment and maintenance to bring it up to standard.

The Nest is a REALLY lovely holiday home.

We had a week stay at the end of November, and it provided us with a warm, cosy and perfect retreat. The owners have thought about everything that might be needed to provide a real home from home while staying there, and everything that they have used and provided, speaks of quality and thoughtfulness. Lovely Welcome Pack of goodies on arrival too. Unfortunately for my husband, he's now got the head scratch, of trying to figure out how we can get underfloor heating in our own home, as we're now completely sold on it...its sooo cosy! Two of the main issues for me when renting holiday accommodation, are usually the comfort of the bed, and the power of the shower....both of these get a big 5 star rating. The bed is an absolute dream, and the shower is lovely and hot and perfectly powerful. I shouldn't forget to mention that The Nest is well positioned for visiting many beautiful places, including Stone Henge just a short distance away, and the local view gave us lots of sightings of Red Kites, which are birds that I've not seen before, so was quite a thrill. All in all for comfort, location and all round enjoyability, we couldn't fault The Nest as a pefect holiday cottage.

This was our second stay at The Nest and was as wonderful as the first!

Everything that 2 people would need or want is provided including reclining chair, entertainment system and a very comfortable bed to name but a few. Plus on arrival there is a welcome pack of essentials including milk, artisan bread, spreadable butter and fruit which was much appreciated. The owners Sue and Dave are very friendly and approachable if you require help or just a chat, but they leave you to 'your own devices' if you so desire. Chitterne, although a small village is well situated for visiting local towns in Wiltshire for your groceries and tourist attractions along with being close to Somerset if you wat to venture there. Fortunately, both my husband and I are not constantly on smartphones so the lack of mobile network coverage was mot a problem and there is the bonus of having use of wifi and a smart tv. I don't think anyone will be disappointed after staying at The Nest at the Roundhouse and will want to visit again in the future.

This little cottage suited us perfectly being a group of three and two dogs.

It was clean and beautifuly furnished and decorated. It had all the kitchen equipment needed and it was great to be provided with some complimentaries i.e. Washing up liquid, dishcloths etc. The enclosed outside area was a wonderful sun trap which we enjoyed. There was a convenient circular dog walk over the road which our dogs loved. We had our own parking space outside the door which was ideal as we had one elderly member in the group. However, I wouldn’t recomend the place for small children as the door opens out directly into the car park and the nearby road can be very busy. The corners of the glass dining table proved to be problematic for us and they would be especially hazzardous for toddlers. I would recomend having proper lounge seating for a fourth person. None of our party would have been able to cope with the beanbag provided! Luckily we were three. All in all, we had a great stay.
