What our customers say about their holidays

      The cottage was absolutely fabulous.

The oldest home we have ever stayed in but also beautifully furnished. You are catapulted to a moment back in time with the cottage and the village of Castle Coomb. The Church is opposite and the clock chimes every hour - even through the night. We stayed on a cold weekend but the cottage was lovely and warm with the added bonus of having a wood burner which we made full use of. There are two pubs lat the end of the road. Sadly one (The Castle) was closed for refurbishment when we were there but there are couple of others -The White Hart at Ford and the Salutation Inn only a short drive away. Both dog friendly and with great food and lovely staff. We had a fantastic stay and some great long walks on the doorstep. Also have a look around the Manor House grounds if you are planning a stay there. The only slight problem we had was with a leak in the walk in shower. The owners were getting it repaired and had apologised in advance. Not sure if this was affecting the hot water but the shower ran cold after a short while. A bit of a problem with four of us staying. Perhaps this could be looked into. As said earlier the property is very old so expect low beams, sloping floors and wooden stairs which add to its charm. Also expect visitors to have a peep into the property as they walk up the street! We didn’t mind at all and as night falls you can close the wooden shutters, pour yourselves a glass of wine (from the welcome pack) and listen to the crackle of the log burner. TV is optional. The is more than enough room for four to stay very comfortably. It is not a small cottage by any means. The back garden with rear access was also a great addition if you are planning to take your pet along. Can’t wait to return - a really memorable weekend.

Pretty cottage in an understandably busy tourist spot so be prepared for people looking through your window / taking photos!

Adjacent to a pretty churchyard, plus church with bells which ring on the hour. Nice cottage garden at the back of the property to sit out in. Access is also granted to the grounds of the hotel with a beautiful giant sequoia on site. We didn't have any problems with access, even on the day of a wedding. Owner very easy to contact and deal with. Really nice welcome pack, which accommodated intolerances - thank you. Very well-equipped kitchen, with everything you need should you wish to cook, though there are no shortage of pubs nearby for food. Superficially clean, especially bed linen, towels, bedding, kitchen utensils, glasses and crockery. Dusty in parts e.g., beams, skirting boards, around / underneath some of the furniture, plus some dusty cobwebs around the property. We asked for a second clean to be performed, which was accommodated quickly and partially completed. This is the countryside, so we had some guests in the form of pill lice, spiders and flies, but there is a very large UV-light fly zapper in the kitchen which will deal efficiently with anything airborne. Great base from which to access lots of nice places easily, e.g. Bath, Longleat, Salisbury, Wells, and we also ventured down to the New Forest which was lovely. Wi-Fi worked well considering the rural position of the cottage, no phone signal with our network provider, but the owner provides a landline for essential calls.

Just returned from an idyllic week staying at this beautiful cottage.

Privately owned, but within the grounds of The Manor House Hotel, this lovely cottage was our base while visiting Wiltshire...and we loved it. It's only a few yards from the main hotel and also the two pub/restaurants in the small village itself. So great for anyone wanting a short walk in the evening for a drink. We ate at The Castle only once, which was ok, but there are much nicer restaurants just a few minutes drive away, including our favourite - The White Hart, Ford. We had 2 really good meals here, in very comfortable surroundings. We can also recommend The Biddestone Arms, where we sampled their award winnings pies...absolutely delicious!! The cottage itself is quite beautiful - with very comfortable furnishings, lovely bathrooms (2) and everything you need if you want to cook for yourself. The interior has been tastefully modernised, whilst retaining its charming and quaint cottage feel. It has a lovely terraced garden with comfortable seating for 'al fresco' dining - we spent many hours out here enjoying the tranquil surroundings. The owner - Barbara, gave us lots of information on places to visit, and recommendations on where to book for dinner - thank you Barbara. She was also keen to hear our views on our return, and grateful for the couple of suggestions we made. Highly recommended! \ Mrs Burke, June 2016

Had a lovely stay as always.

Stayed at property many times and its a beautiful area to visit. Its such a shame that my review has been influenced by costs. I stayed 3 nights and when I booked the cost was the same for 3, 4 and 5 nights. The cost was only an additional £150 for the full week which is great. On checking out I could see the cottage was still unbooked for the next few days so asked if my stay could be extended until the next morning. I was advised by Sykes there may just be an admin cost of £30 because the rate was initially the same for 3-5 nights but he needed to check with the owner. Unfortunately when it was confirmed I was advised the owner had requested an additional £250 for the 1 night extension as a pro rata rate... this was on top of the £30 admin fee. We opted not to stay because staying the additional one night would have cost more than the original price of a full week. I checked the cost of a new booking staying the day we were leaving for 6 nights and it was £850.. which is just over £140 a night. I would happily have paid this as a pro rata cost. Dont let my experience put you off booking.. its a wonderful place to stay but I felt I had to make a comment because as a returning customer it made us feel under valued and has affected our desire to return in the future. Such a shame.

The Fox Den Cottage is the best cottage I have ever been to in England.

It is comfortable, cosy, has all the amenities readily available and the kitchen is spectacular, with a view of the garden and birds playing about on the lawn and in the branches near the bird feeders. The rooms are warm and comfortable with beds that you simply melt into and sleep soundly at the end of a fun day of walking around the idyllic village of Castle Combe or visiting the surrounding villages and towns. The location of the Fox Den Cottage is perfect, 20 minute drive from a very convenient Morrisons SuperStore in Chippenham, 10 minute walk from the Market Cross in Castle Combe, and next to some very lovely farmland that is quiet and soothing to the eyes with its green pastures. The owners of the cottage are extremely helpful and their hospitality is top-notch, even providing special little extras in the cottage for the guests to discover. We had a lot of fun in the cottage itself and it was great to sit down by the fire at the end of the day with a cup of tea and enjoy a nice chat by the warmth. Absolutely wonderful. Highly recommended, to anyone visiting the Cotswolds or seeking a nice restful holiday in Wiltshire, this cottage should be Number 1 on your list.
