If you if you need a pet friendly option for you and your pampered pooch you're bound to find what you're looking for in Derbyshire.

Things to do on a Derbyshire cottage holiday

Predominantly a rural region, Derbyshire encompasses a large part of the Peak District, a stunning National Park that's characterised by rugged uplands and moorland, such as Kinder Scout. The area feels very remote and is the ideal spot for an adventure. There are lots of ways to explore the Peak District hiking, cycling and even on horseback. Stay in one of many pet-friendly holiday cottages in Derbyshire and your favourite friend can even come along with you.

Scattered throughout Derbyshire's rolling hills, you'll find lots of historic and picturesque towns and villages. Bakewell, for instance, is considered to be one of the finest towns in England and, yes, it is the birthplace of the Bakewell tart! If you're looking for something livelier, the city of Derby lies along the river Derwent and is awash with museums, galleries, and a magnificent Gothic cathedral.

Derbyshire is less touristy than somewhere like Cornwall or the nearby Lake District. But it's definitely worth exploring if you want a holiday to remember. The sheer number and quality of holiday cottages in Derbyshire makes this pretty part of the UK ideal for unforgettable family trips or romantic getaways.

Encompassing swathes of the Peak District, Derbyshire is a top place to stay. With luxury cottages on offer you can enjoy your next staycation in style. Whether it's as a romantic retreat or a family getaway, there will be a place for you in this lovely county.

The Peak District is, of course, a popular place to go in this county. With plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling, as well as stunning views; it's easy to see why. However, this isn't the only attraction of Derbyshire. Both in and out of the National park there are numerous pretty towns and villages in which to enjoy a luxury cottage holiday. It's just the place to unwind and enjoy a slower pace of life.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Pamela - Verified booking

The Snug is a really lovely cottage - exactly as described, ideal for my husband, myself and our small dog.

It was immaculately clean and provided everthing we needed for a relaxing week away. It's own garden, with bistro table and 2 chairs, was a particularly lovely benefit for both us and Wilson. Although the weather wasn't great and not nice enough to eat dinner outside, we had breakfast/lunch outside on several days. Maybe not a bad thing that it wasn't hot and sunny, otherwise we'd have happily sat outside all week, read our books and not visited the various places we did! The various "ornamental finishing touches" were very tasteful and the information folder about the property very comprehensive. The really lovely "extra" though was the Doggy Welcome Pack, which was much appreciated by Wilson, especially the treats and tennis ball. The Rising Sun pub at the beginning of the Village was a good recommendation for food, or just to walk to for a drink. We definitely want to visit the Peak District again and would want to stay at The Snug, it's name is appropriate and description accurate. It enabled us to enjoy a relaxing week away, which was exactly what we needed.

Even before we arrived we had a message from Rose asking any requirements to ensure everything was perfect on arrival.

When we got to the cottage she had left us a welcome tray with thoughtful locally sourced treats and butter, bread and milk ready for us, even though we hadn’t requested this. The cottage itself was beautiful inside and out, finished to a very high standard, and with everything you could possibly need provided and ready, and easy to find. The decor is perfect- cosy and rustic, and every room was lovely, from the relaxing living area to the rainforest shower in the bathroom. The cottage is situated in the middle of the village but the environment still felt so quiet and relaxed. Local residents were friendly, and we loved exploring Carsington water (a nice walk to get there), Dovedale stepping stones, and the Heights of Abraham. Definitely would have liked to do a little more hiking as the area around Hognaston is beautiful. Rose kept contact without being at all intrusive, to ensure everything was ok. This was much appreciated. Overall it was a home away from home and a perfect stay, we wouldn’t change anything and would recommend highly to everyone.

From the moment we found the place (brilliant guidance from Jo), it became our hidden home away from the world.

Jo very thoughtfully left a small gift, cupcakes and birthday decorations for us so when we walked in, we instantly felt at home, and in the mood to celebrate! The cottage itself is beautiful with an air of magic. Lots of beautiful decoration that makes it feel homely. We especially loved the barn door (where the top half of the door opens, but the bottom half is closed). The dates we were there had some rainy moments but the barn door allowed us to enjoy the rainy smells and sounds, take in the beuaiful view and be as close to nature as possible, all whilst sitting on cosy chairs with a blanket to keep us warm. Truly magical moments that we're looking forward to experiencing again.

Lilimae barn is just as described.

It’s a beautifully converted barn in the centre of a lovely, friendly village. The attention to detail is stunning and all fixtures are to the highest standard. I sincerely cannot fault any element of property or surrounding area. We arrived to find a wonderful welcome pack which was greatly appreciated. We visited and walked around the whole of Carsington reservoir after enjoying a really nice breakfast at the visitors centre. The Red Lion pub serves excellent food with large portions. My wife and I have already enquired about returning… but seems it’s that good you will need to get in quickly!! Fantastic stay. We will be back. Kind regards Leon & Sam from Nottingham.

The property was very cosy and just right for a couple with a dog.

The doggy welcome pack was a lovely gesture on arrival. There was an enclosed garden which made it really easy to let the dog out and to have somewhere to wash the dog after a muddy walk (and a dive into the canal!!). The owners were very helpful when we had questions; and in one instance where something wasn't working they were there sorting it incredibly quickly to make sure there was no impact on our stay. Their customer service was really excellent. The location was really good with plenty of walks and tourist attractions nearby and a nice pub with food down the road. It was easy access to go anywhere we wanted. Genuinely sad to leave and really enjoyed our stay.
