What our customers say about their holidays

    • Russell - Verified booking

This was our second time here and, despite the wet January weather, we still enjoyed our weeks stay.

There was two of us and Stan, the small dog. We feel it that it would be cramped for more than two but it does accommodate 4 and all provisions and facilities are there for this number of guests. The cottage has good quality facilities, very clean and pet friendly. The central heating was excellent in every room and kept us snug whilst it rained for most of the stay. The gas fire was very warm as Stan will confirm. The two bedrooms have double beds and nice quality bedding and towels. We think that the cottage has “nice vibes” and being pretty solid you don’t hear the neighbours. Bentham is a good place to stay and a fair choice of pubs and eating places given its size. A Co-op and Spar are very close by and open late so no problems for shopping. There’s a Bus stop right outside to Ingleton or Kirkby Stephen and a train station about 5 minute walk to Leeds or Lancaster means that you don’t need a car to enjoy being in Bentham. There’s no shortage of walks 5 minutes from the front door into the countryside and the riverbank walks are very relaxing. You will need waterproof boots if it’s been raining heavy for some of the walks. The cottage is in the village centre and easy walking to most of the 4 pubs (which means no drink driving) but plenty of gastro pubs out into the countryside if you wish. Off road parking right outside the front door meant that access for those with mobility issues is minimal. Stairs are not too steep and plenty of hand rails. A contact number was left for any issues (we had none at all) and a welcome pack with card is a friendly touch. The big test for any stay is would you go back and stay there again- for us it’s definitely yes.

Booked this holiday 30th August until 6th Sept 2019.

.. Unfortunately we had to come home on the 3rd couldn't cope with accommodation any longer... The place was spotless and well equipped but not for the elderly or disabled like the property information led us to believe … Bedroom beautiful furnished with a King size bed … Bathroom lovely big walk in shower but no grab rail or Bath mat to step out onto and it was a wooden floor so very slippy … The lounge had a sofa and two chairs which were fine if you were young but we could not get up out of them they were so low and the sofa so soft … My husband had cancer surgery and follow up treatment so we thought this would be ideal for him … we resorted to sitting on hard kitchen type chairs to watch the tele not comfortable at all... Then to top it all we arrived Friday the 30th August and on Saturday morning 31st August the road had closed for 7 weeks … no diversion signs we had to keep going well out of our way to get anywhere we were not informed about this … I am not knocking The Old Stables it was spotless and well equipped like I previously said but needs some attention to make it more ideal for the elderly and disabled we paid out £436 pound for 3 days not happy we feel we were mis informed

The cottage is ideally located in the centre of high bentham.

Didn't use car as much as everything was within walking distant. The cottage was spotless. Cosy living/dining area. Kitchen was bigger than we thought it would be. Had everything we needed to cook. Gas fire in living room was brilliant as we had some rainy days. The two bedrooms were good sizes for small cottage. The beds were the most comfortable ones we had stayed in. The sofa and chair were good size but need replacing as not comfortable to sit on . Could have done with 2 sets of towels each as due to weather couldn't hang washing out, and no air dryer in house to put out wet clothes on. The parking space in front of cottage was really good as only allowed 30 minutes on main street. Would definitely stay here again. Pubs, restaurants, shops were really good.

We absolutely loved our stay at Honey Pot Cottage.

The decor was really bright and fresh, all furniture, fittings and linens were good quality and the location was perfect. It is in a pretty, little rural town which is set in beautiful countryside but has all the amenities you could need. There is a bakery, chip shop, cash machines, grocery shops, butchers, children's play area, train and a fabulous craft shop all within a few minutes walk. There is even a train station that is a 10 minute walk. The perfect base for exploring the area. The owners were friendly and offered to help with anything we needed and the welcome basket was a lovely touch. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to explore this part of the dales.

Just returned from a lovely short break at Honey Pot Cottage.

What a lovely place to visit with lots of really good walks and returning to this lovely cottage was the icing on the cake. All the facilities you need and very comfortable beds. I was particularly impressed with the little things that normally nag at me when I stay in a holiday cottage such as somewhere to put your suitcase and a shelf in the shower to put all your toiletries on. A lot of thought has obviously been put into ensuring you have a comfortable break. Only niggle was the noise from the fan in the bathroom when you turned the light on, as I'm a light sleeper this did wake me up. However I would definitely recommend this as a place to stay.
