What our customers say about their holidays

    • June - Verified booking

We have stayed in quite a few of your listed cottages especially ones on Farms, all have been of a very high standard regarding comfort and furnishings.

We think this cottage is in need of an upgrade the cooker although in good working order is very old, the furniture in the lounge is not comfortable to sit on of an evening after being out all day especially for an older person as backs are so low. The hot water went off the owners had forgotten to mention that we needed to press a button in order to reset it as it seems to have a problem. At all other properties we have stayed there has been a welcome starter pack, i.e. tea, coffee, milk even biscuits and treats I had rad the reviews before booking and several said it was nice to arrive and find a tray + eggs on arrival, so we did not take those things, however, we had a jug of milk in the fridge and some pieces of flapjack. I do think that a welcome pack is a good idea so you don't have to go out after a long journey to get the essentials. So we were a bit disappointed that we paid the same or similar price for this property but it was not up to the high standard we had come to expect from Sykes.

Our hosts were very cordial and obliging.

The barn was perfect for our needs and as our main requirement was to bring the cat, a request that was freely granted, we were very happy indeed. The Barn is tastefully furnished and is very spacious and comfortable. It is silent despite its reasonably close proximity to some busy roads and sitting outside in the courtyard was ideal for meditation and quiet reflection. We received a visit from some friends and our hosts provided extra seating, a tablecloth, a parasol and freshly picked sweet peas! The views from the Barn are wonderful and with its bucolic setting I would recommend it to anyone with a love for the countryside. The surrounding hills provide superb views over Wales, Devon and a large portion of Somerset. They are easy to negotiate and yet have a feeling of the wild and the remote. The views down to the valley reveal the Arcadian setting of The Barn with the nearby, very elegant village church and surrounding farms. All in all, superb!

      A lovely renovated barn.

Small gravelled garden with double gates which made it very secure for our two westies. Good kitchen downstairs that is very well equipped with everything you should need, even had sharp knives which I find is a rarity. Smart tv so Netflix’s etc once you’ve logged in. Our only fault and for us it was a major one was the BED! The mattress to say the least was a very basic coil sprung one when it was bought and offered no support at all. So much in fact that we had to buy 2 cheap duvets which we put on top which helped a little but still caused us broken sleep and back ache, so much so that we left a day early. It was a real shame as everything else is a really good quality but for us a good bed is vital. We mentioned this to the owners and really hope they address this with a decent supportive mattress. Once this is done it will be 5 stars like it deserves

A scenic part of the country with many places to visit near to the accommodation.

The accommodation is lovely with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The owners are very helpful and meeting them made the visit even more special. The gifts from the owners make you feel welcome as soon as you arrive and are very much appreciated. We felt the dining area could be a little more welcoming as in comparison to all the other rooms it felt a bit bare. However it was more than adequate for it's purpose. We would have liked access to a cd player as we enjoy listening to them but aware that there was access to a radio. You do need to use your car to get to surrounding areas but this is to be expected when you stay somewhere that is a little remote. It is a special place and we would like to return sometime.

The owners left a welcoming tea tray with homemade flapjack and ale & cider in the fridge.

The courtyard is very pretty and we were able to sit outside with our tea tray in the sunshine. The Barn is in a perfect location, the surrounding area is beautiful and we enjoyed walking out onto the Mendips from the doorstep, no need to use the car. We couldn’t fault the accommodation which is tastefully decorated with some quirky features. Ideal for the two of us plus the dog. Allison & Nigel, the owners, are lovely, they have provided lots of information within a folder in The Barn and were also very willing to help with anything else to make out stay more comfortable. We hope to return again in the future- we’ve enjoyed our stay very much.
