What our customers say about their holidays

    • Hannah - Verified booking

If you are looking for a wonderful, peaceful place to stay on a break away, Langdale Lodge is a must.

Set on a farm, you have a beautiful view from the living area looking out on to fields, lake and farm animals. We stayed during winter, which at times was quite a wet period but it was lovely, we chose to stay in and lit the fire which warms up the lodge and makes it nice and cosy. One of the most amazing things about the lodge is the wildlife cameras that you can watch. The farm is blessed with lots of wild animals and Mike kindly sends updates if there is anything exciting that comes through during the night. We spent most of our time when in the lodge with it running, periodically checking out what there was about and saw owls, mice, birds, geese, ducks and a rabbit. Those staying over the spring period will have such fun watching the owl houses too if there are owlets! The lodge has great facilities, the bed is comfortable, shower has good power, you can cook using the all in one and stove top. The settee is amazing as it’s a recliner, so you can sit back and relax whilst looking out of the huge window or watching the TV, which has the ability to login to any streaming services you might wish to. The wifi is good if you need to use. If going in better weather, there’s a lovely outdoor seating area on the decking. It’s all enclosed which was perfect for us and our little dog to be out in. We were made to feel very welcome upon arrival and even got to purchase some eggs from the hens on the farm. Thank you also to Mike who allowed us to say hello to the some of the farm animals too which was really special. We look forward to hopefully coming back again in a warmer period to enjoy all the fun things Devon and the lodge has to offer in a different season. Highly recommend staying here.

We stayed beginning of Oct 2023.

Incredibly lucky with the weather we had three beautiful days and the remainder of the week was largely dry. Beckaford View was absolutely beautiful, the owners have done a wonderful job in restoring the place and it was lovely to read it's history. The large picture window frames a simply stunning view across the valley. The directions were spot on and easy to follow (we simply used the postcode which brings you out at the top of the drive) The property was spotless & very comfortable.. A lovely shower room, open plan lower floor & nice mezzanine bedroom that takes in the view when you wake up.. The bed was very comfortable and it was a nice/welcome touch to have some milk & drinks packets ready for arrival.. We travelled from Essex so in our case very welcome... The property is at the entrance to Dartmoor we enjoyed spending time with our dog on the moor. Haytor Rocks well worth a visit as was Hound Tor, said to be the inspiration for Hound Of The Baskervilles. Loads of places to explore in and around South Devon which is itself stunning.. The owners provide a really handy visitors book and it was so useful to see where others had ventured out to & then recommended.. I would suggest it should be one of the first things to do as you settle in. A practical thing for the owners to consider.. 1. A mirror for the bedroom, my wife had to stand & plug her hair dryer in the kitchen whilst using the bathroom mirror, so 1 upstairs would have been perfect.. That 1 practical thing aside we loved our stay and had a wonderful week.. We would definitely stay again & we don't say that often.. Highly recommended..

Booked late on with the principal criteria being proximity to our son and family.

The accommodation was adequate for our needs , the bed was very comfortable and the shower was superb. On the downside, the property is quite dark inside because there are no rear windows and the lighting provided (except in the bathroom) is inadequate. There are no views from the property other than across the car park and the small patio, next to your parked car, is not an enticing place for evening drinks, or a meal. There is little that can be done about that, it is what it is as a former stable complex but no effort had been made to make it slightly more attractive. There were brackets for hanging baskets outside but no hanging baskets. As a result of the above, we felt that the price charged was high. Our plot also lost the evening sun earlier than the other units. On arrival, the 'welcome' basket consisted of 2 packs of biscuits, coffee sachets and tea bags. Previous stayers we noted from the guest book received the more normal Prosecco! Nor could we quickly chill the wine we brought, as we arrived to the fridge turned off and the door wide open! By contrast, our son paid less for 2 bedrooms with a nice sitting out area and views across the valley and only a mile away, also on a farm.

      The most perfect perfect stay!

I booked this as my first little solo trip away with my dog and it was just perfect. The cottage itself was stunning! I was so so sad leaving this little retreat behind! The scenic window was the making of this property, and any future bookers should note that the sunrise will wake you- and that’s a waking you will want to view! The sunrise rolling up over the moors actually is breath taking, I have a phone full of pictures of it! Lying in bed watching the animals run around the garden was dreamy. I’m a big walker so location for AllTrails was perfect with Haytor and Becky Falls very close. The bed was super comfortable, and the kitchen had everything I needed. Only minor downside was the fact there wasn’t a full length mirror, only the over basin one tucked into the bathroom, and maybe there could be a little bench added for extra seating area in the top part of the garden as the sun lingers there alot longer ☺️ I’ve already looked to re book another time to see the changes of weather and wanting to make use of the fire, Beckaford has probably got to be the most perfect cottage I’ve booked over my years. Thank you ☺️

We originally booked this venue in order to escape from some very dusty carpentry work at our home for a few days.

We needed an accessible building in a quiet area with good facilities and reviews. How LUCKY we were! From the cream tea waiting in the fridge on our arrival to the fabulous, easy to use, wood burning stove. From incredible scenic views through our picture window to the livestream wildlife camera coverage system. The facilities really are first class here. The owner, Mike, is always contactable but never intrusive and always happy to help. We really enjoyed watching the wild birds visiting the feeders from the covered decking area and the antics of a flock of wild geese who seemed to spend much of their time in the paddock between the cabin and the lake below. We didn't do much sightseeing because we already had everything we needed in this wonderfully private and beautiful place. However, we did buy plenty of delicious local farm food within a 5 mile drive, after which a walk to explore the many tracks and fields was most welcome. Don't hesitate to book this very special place if you get the chance! Kind regards, Rosie and Juls.
