Derbyshire is one of the most beautiful parts the UK, boasting some incredible scenery, notably the Peak District. It's also home to some picturesque towns and villages such as Bakewell and Chesterfield, and has a long heritage and charming character all of its own. If you're looking for something larger for a group or family trip then there is plenty of choice. If you if you need a pet friendly option for you and your pampered pooch you're bound to find what you're looking for in Derbyshire.

Things to do on a Derbyshire cottage holiday

Predominantly a rural region, Derbyshire encompasses a large part of the Peak District, a stunning National Park that's characterised by rugged uplands and moorland, such as Kinder Scout. The area feels very remote and is the ideal spot for an adventure. There are lots of ways to explore the Peak District hiking, cycling and even on horseback. Stay in one of many pet-friendly holiday cottages in Derbyshire and your favourite friend can even come along with you.

Scattered throughout Derbyshire's rolling hills, you'll find lots of historic and picturesque towns and villages. Bakewell, for instance, is considered to be one of the finest towns in England and, yes, it is the birthplace of the Bakewell tart! If you're looking for something livelier, the city of Derby lies along the river Derwent and is awash with museums, galleries, and a magnificent Gothic cathedral.

Derbyshire is less touristy than somewhere like Cornwall or the nearby Lake District. But it's definitely worth exploring if you want a holiday to remember. The sheer number and quality of holiday cottages in Derbyshire makes this pretty part of the UK ideal for unforgettable family trips or romantic getaways.

Encompassing swathes of the Peak District, Derbyshire is a top place to stay. With luxury cottages on offer you can enjoy your next staycation in style. Whether it's as a romantic retreat or a family getaway, there will be a place for you in this lovely county.

The Peak District is, of course, a popular place to go in this county. With plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling, as well as stunning views; it's easy to see why. However, this isn't the only attraction of Derbyshire. Both in and out of the National park there are numerous pretty towns and villages in which to enjoy a luxury cottage holiday. It's just the place to unwind and enjoy a slower pace of life.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Keith - Verified booking

We waited some three weeks to write this as we left very upset and did not want our emotions and feelings to prejudice our review.

Our car bogged down in the deep gravel, we moved it the following day. Six wall hooks is not enough storage for five nights stay. No inside foot mat, changed muddy shoes outside in the rain. Fold out dinning table not fit for purpose as it hits the wooden loft ladder. Ate all meals on our lap putting all beverages on the floor as no table. Watched five days of iPLAYER, no terrestrial channels due to location, we do not have Netflix or Sky accounts, No microwave listed in description but really missed when not there. No side lights or lampshade, kept loft light on as downstairs ceiling lights far too bright due to low ceiling and white walls. After two nights in the loft we slept on the sofa-bed, we felt it too risky reversing out of bed with 3' headroom in the dark to negotiate a 9' ladder to go to the loo whilst half asleep. If your partner goes to the loo at night chances are you will be awoken. 'Sofa-bed' is lumpy, bumpy with stains and extremely uncomfortable. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On our last day we awoke to find the hob, oven and radiator had lost their programme, we informed Louisa and her husband came to assist. He was wonderful, boiling our milk and reassuring us he would fix whilst we were out walking. He explained power cuts were frequent and this was most probably the cause. Whilst walking we received a random PDF file from Louisa for a LAM3410 oven and hob stating, 'hope this helps'. We explained her husband was resolving the issue and without any fact finding or investigation we received upsetting and confrontational texts stating we had locked it, we had used it all week and previous guests had managed to use them properly for two years. We explained Louisa's husband stated it was a power cut but this was ignored. We stated we had been hill walking for six hours and would have no cooking facilities on our return. We had to trawl though eighteen pages of text to find out how to unlock the hob before we could start cooking. We also received a text saying 'I hope the oven is working as you haven't said otherwise'. Due to the power cut the oven showed 'STOP', at 9pm we were downloading a Lamon3410 oven PDF, we fixed this at 10pm. We texted Louisa saying it would be nice to meet before we left to resolve any issues between us but we never met our host or received the courtesy of a reply. Our check out time was 10am but we left at 08.40 as we just wanted to leave. On returning home we finally contacted the Lamona service helpline who confirmed a 'LOCK' and a 'STOP' on both appliances at the same time would be the result of a power cut and referred us to the youtube channel below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_jTeLXvG0o&t=3s The property affords a wonderful location and view, unfortunately the novelty of this soon wears off when one has to stay for five nights.

As in previous reviews the location and views from the property are very good, also the property itself is nice, however my concerns are the lack of Facilities and the price for the property.

For just a few £££'s more I could have had a detached 2/3 Bedroomed House/Cottage, whereas this property is Very Small, not sure how you would fit in a Cot as well? Facility wise it is a bit sparse. If you plan to Fry some food forget it as there is no extraction available, so I'd avoid that, also there is no Micro-Wave, which is strange these days. If you plan to stay for a week then be aware that there are no storage facilities for clothes or even for food, although you will probably be eating out? The Hot water for pot washing only last a couple of minutes before it goes cold. To watch TV you have to keep removing the ladder out of the way. The bedroom doesn't fit my description of a bedroom, it is basically a mattress on a loft floor, no cupboards or drawers or mirrors also very little headroom, about 2', so it's a "crawl" to get in and out of bed. The upper "bedroom" is not suitable for anyone that might have disabilities etc. due to having to climb a ladder to access the mattress. The lighting is very bright, so a Table Lamp would be helpful for nighttime. We never got to me the hosts, so I can't comment on that. I know this is a negative review, and I'm sorry to leave one, but people should be made aware of the limitations that they will encounter. For me this was booked on the "Spur of the Moment", so I guess I'm partially to blame for not reading the comments etc. If you are just doing a 1/2-night stay, then this would be ideal, but anything over, in my opinion, would need a bit of consideration.

We arrived very late at the cottage (22:30) and the owners had prepared the property very welcoming. There were flowers, wine, eggs and dog treats - Thank you The cottage was very clean and nicely decorated. The rooms are arranged over four levels! I personally wished I had checked the location better. We live close to the M20 and depending on the weather it is either very quiet or very noisy from the traffic. We found the same at the cottage with the close proximity of the A6. We found the matress very uncomfortable and therefore didn't sleep very well. The pictures are very misleading. The outdoor area is all shared between the tree cottages. If they are all full there will be cars parked right outside Kestrel Cottage. The area was quite nice. Great view from the top of Eccles Pike. We had a lovely walk to Waley Bridge and back along the canal. We loved the Little Mill Pub at Rowarth which has lovely walks. We were very unfortunate with the weather, but the cottage was warm and comfortable, although a little dark. Overall, we wouldn't return - mainly because of the closeness to the A6 (see above)

My 15 year old daughter and I had a wonderful time here.

Hosts were very welcoming. Balloons and a cake was left in our cottage as warm touches for my daughters birthday :) Space under the sofa and in the bathroom for storage. Hot water is short in the mornings so we'd just brush our teeth with cold water and use the hot water for our face which wasn't an issue then shower as per se so don't take it as a negative. This is a small cottage but perfectly ideal for our stay. The views were SO beautiful. Sheep's, ponies and cows just in view of our cottage :) We had a evening of Netflix so we opened up the sofa bed, bought down the king-size duvet and pillows and relaxed. It's very homely and alot of essentials. I don't have anything negative to say if I'm very honest and we'd definitely come back here. I went back home very rested :)

We only spent three nights at the cottage as were visiting relatives nearby. It's a gorgeous cottage, has everything you need. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable beds. It's in an excellent location just 15 min walk from a couple of pubs, we tried Old Hall Inn, really good food. I would recommend booking especially if you have a dog and want to eat inside. Great walks literally on the doorstep. A bottle of wine, freshly picked flowers and a scrummy cake was there on arrival. It's dog friendly, but just a note there isn't an enclosed garden, we didn't have to worry as our pup isn't one for wandering far.......not yet anyway. We'll definitely return.
