Get away from it all with Norfolk holiday cottages

Every year, over three and a half million people plan their holidays in Norfolk cottages, and it's easy to see why. From the family-friendly fun of Great Yarmouth to the tranquil waterways of the Norfolk Broads and Norfolk Coast area, to Cromer Chalk Reef and Thetford Forest, days in Norfolk are filled with possibility.

It's unlikely you'll get bored of the stunning countryside and unspoilt coastline, but if you're looking for more things to do away from the nature reserves, fear not. The seaside towns of Great Yarmouth and Wells-next-the-Sea boast independent shops, cultural attractions and plenty of dog-friendly pubs too.

To complete your magical escape to this beautiful part of the UK, book one of our wonderful Norfolk holiday cottages. Whether you're on the hunt for a cosy bolthole for a romantic weekend away, or a sprawling barn conversion with enough room for the whole gang, we have self-catering properties to suit every requirement and every occasion.

Why choose a Norfolk weekend break or staycation?

Nestled in glorious East Anglia, Norfolk is awash with cute coastal towns, sweet and sleepy villages, wholesome attractions, and some of the best beaches in the UK.

Ideal if you need a break from the stresses of everyday life, a trip to Norfolk provides relaxation, tranquillity, and non-stop fun.

Norfolk is home to The Broads National Park, one of just ten national parks in England. This incredible park is made up of 32 dedicated reserves, Norfolk wildlife trusts, and much more. You'll also find a series of charming villages, beautiful riverside parks, and more than a few classic pubs to tempt you.

The beaches are one of the main reasons millions of people flock to Norfolk each year. The county has over 90 miles of spectacular coastline waiting to be explored. Each beach offers something special, from wide expanses of pristine sand and sparkling waters to intriguing rock pools and caves.

Holkham Bay in north Norfolk is one of the most incredible beaches in the country, with miles of soft golden sand, grassy dunes, and lush pine forests. When the tide goes out, the beach goes on for as far as you can see, making it an ideal spot for relaxing, building sandcastles, and even going on a horse ride right on the water's edge.

Brancaster Beach is another popular seaside spot. The flat beach is huge, so there's always plenty of space no matter how busy it gets. If you're a fan of water sports then you can try your hand at windsurfing, boogie boarding, and kite surfing.

Or why not visit Cromer Beach in the traditional Victorian seaside resort of Cromer? The wide beach is made of sand and shingle and many of the buildings in Cromer date back to the Victorian era.

For more Victorian fun, stay in the lovely town of Hunstanton, which is perfect for entertaining the whole family. Hunstanton has two excellent beaches, a traditional Victorian town centre, and lots of top Norfolk attractions close by. It's also home to one of the largest colonies of seals in the UK, making seal spotting a must.

When visiting Norfolk, a trip to Sandringham Estate makes for a great day out. The estate was a birthday present from Queen Victoria to the Prince of Wales and his wife Princess Alexandra in 1862. While the house is still used as a royal residence, you can visit the surrounding 600-acre country park for free, exploring the woodland paths and enjoying a picnic on the open grassland. There are also the gardens and museum to explore, which is home to a fantastic collection of royal memorabilia.

Norwich is a popular city in Norfolk, which might be small but packs a lot of things to do. Discover medieval churches and historic houses down narrow alleys and ancient streets, and pop into a huge selection of independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. There are lively markets to enjoy, as well as museums, galleries, a castle, and the stunning Romanesque cathedral.

It's at night that Norfolk is at its most magical, as this incredible county is home to one of the clearest skies in the UK.

Imagine dining outside in one of the quaint fishing villages, with a plate of Norfolk's world-famous seafood in front of you, and the day's last light disappearing all around. A salty sea breeze travelling west from the Atlantic Ocean fills your lungs, while above you, the night skies come to life with millions of twinkling stars everywhere you look.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Peter Beardmore - Verified booking

The Signal Box is a true Norfolk Hideaway. If you want peace and tranquility away from all the stress of modern day life this is the place to go. We found this beautiful hideaway with a Google search and as soon as we saw it we knew this is where we wanted to stay and we could take our 2 Fox Terrier dogs with us. We booked for a week and the people at Norfolk Hideaways couldn't have been more helpful. The Signal Box is set on the edge of farm where all the out building's have been developed into dwellings. The surrounding countryside is quiet and beautiful with plenty of walks and foot paths to explore in the immediate area. It is also very central for visiting the coast and numerous National Trust sites. Holt is only 15 minutes drive and Wells-Next-To-The-Sea only about 40 minutes drive. The Signal Box itself has been sympathetically restored to it's former glory on the outside with all the requirements of modern living on the inside. The living/kitchen area is upstairs and there are superb views of the surrounding countryside through the 3 sides of glass. The downstairs bedroom is extremely well appointed, has a modern shower room with plenty of room to move about and plenty of storage. Our stay at the Signal Box was extremely pleasant and very relaxing. If we had a complaint it would be a week's stay was not long enough in this comfortable and tranquil little corner of Norfolk. Thank you to the owners Chris and Polly for their hospitality.

Location really was great, which makes the rest of the experience disappointing. I have never left a bad review with any property even despite little niggles and hate doing this... We stayed here 23rd June. A main reason being the Hot Tub. When we arrived the Hot tub was in a very sorry state. It looked like it hadn't been used in a while. There was no power to it at all. We located fuse boxes, main switches etc but nothing was working. I notified Host and Stay and had an email saying they are sorry and would have someone attend the following day and also a phone call. No one arrived at all and after that we never heard anything else despite our communication with them. I complained after the stay saying it was a major factor in picking the property and it must have been like that for a while with their knowledge. I had a generic email explaining they are sorry for the delay but there are many holidays in the office so they would resolve as soon as they could. Several emails later to them and the same reply and still no resolution. It is now nearly 2 months later and there has been no response. A simple gesture would have sufficed. I have now left this review reluctantly as it may be the only way to get a response from them before I am forced to take this further.

Stayed for four days 27th Dec-1st Jan and heating wasn't working, with 4 Deg outside. Reported within 3 hours of arrival and eventually replied at 1:23am with instructions how to use. Woke stupid early freezing day 2, more instructions how to use it. Had to get out of the freezing house, assured heating engineer would attend, he didn't. Day 3 still no heating, "handy man" turned up 11:45am with an electric heater, explained he wasn't a heating engineer and away he went. Day 4, checkout day, still no heating, wouldn't give us an extra 1/2 hour to try and all shower using the immersion for hot water. Hot tub continually tripped out and never got to temperature. Complained and asked for refund, 8 days later they came back and said they had "SMS" messaged us before hand to inform us heating wasn't working. We had 50 odd messages before and during stay through Airbnb but the one CRITICAL bit of info they claim was text but we did not received. BS! Ruined the whole Christmas break.

We were a party of 10 people staying for 3 nights. The barn house was lovely – location is great, spacious and everything you needed was inside. I had no issues checking in. The barn house is everything we needed, but I’d like to highlight a few points: 1. There is no shower gel or amenities provided for you . Wasn’t a problem for us. 2. Only 1 toilet roll provided in the 3 bathrooms – 2 of them were already half used, no spears provided. These are basic essentials they should provide. I had messaged and got response back to purchase my own. Not what I’d expect from a stay costing thousands! Also, if they had noticed we were a 10 people and 3 nights! 3. Comminication from the host is very poor. I had messaged 4 weeks prior to our stay with a query - never got back to me. Overall we had a good experience, apart from the hosts communication being poor and they need to consider the basic essentials to be provided, as mentioned above. For this reason I’d give them 4/5.

Christmas Barn was a lovely place to stay for our recent break in Norfolk. We are a multi-generational family and it was fabulous that we all had our own en-suite bathroom. The bedrooms were very comfortable and nicely furnished. The TVs supplied in two of the bedrooms were outdated or not working and the radio in the master bedroom does not work properly.Downstairs was all open plan with a lovely kitchen which was very well-equipped. We enjoyed cooking here! The sitting room area was large with a comfy sofa and big screen television with Sky. A well-equipped utility room and downstairs toilet completed downstairs. The garden was lovely and the Barn is placed in Snettisham Park so you could walk round and see the deer. We could also walk down to the village where there was a Co-op and we had a meal in the Rose and Crown which was lovely. We also went to Snettisham beach, Sandringham, Burnham Market, Blakeney and Wells-next-the-sea….We had a lovely holiday!
