Issues when we arrived, no water, owners had not turned it on, and also no wi-fi!

Cleanliness was not a word to associate with this property, if you like musty; OAP vibe this is it! Spoke with owner who shared how to switch cold water on, although forgot about hot water (thank the Lord for the electric shower) as it was boil the kettle to wash up, and no black-out curtains in very small bedroom, which is a must with street light only 250 yards away. Owner brought wi-fi next day but that too was very poor, OK for checking e-mails but no Netflix or on demand with the shared use across site and this was not in high season. I think the owner needs to know that the hot water switch seems to work the shower and the hot water, this needs switching on at the boiler, but it was too later for our stay, and is there not a responsibility by the owner/letting agents to ensure that the hot water is checked (Legionnaires)? The electric heater in the main bedroom did not work and there was no facility to dry towels after a shower, the bathroom was filthy. Everything needed washing on return home! If it hadn't taken 8 hours to drive to this place, I would have demanded alternative accommodation, which is difficult with a fur baby in tow. Sykes should have paid us for staying at this barely 1* chalet, although the ants living in the kitchen seemed to like their accommodation. We will seriously review staying at a Sykes property again after this!! Belive me, this is a mild review!! NOT A HAPPY CUSTOMER!! But the owner had been busy that week!!!!

What a super stay at the old forge. It is a very well appointed cottage with high quality appliances and very well decorated. Everything was catered for including lovely welcome treats and a tea/coffee/cling film/foil etc Sabatier knives were a treat - most cottages give you one blunt knife but this one had multiple high quality knives which made cooking easy. Giant fridge freezer also helped. Location is good for getting to the broads and east coast. The only negatives are that it is on a very busy road with buses, lorry's and tractors and cars going right past the window and quite loud and not what we were expecting from a quiet country environment. . This was especially disconcerting as we have two dogs and the gates did not reach the ground fully so we had to barracade with old roof tiles we found in the garden to plug gaps to ensure they didn't escape and get run over.. It isn't truly dog friendly but the gates could be very easily modified with some trellis or chicken wire to rectify this. The bed is very soft and needs replacing. Overall a really lovely stay and super value for money and we had a really nice break.

Never until now have we found a place that ticks all the boxes. Especially for us, a super-king bed. Having a tough year with health it was a much needed break. Unfortunately the journey wasn't good for me. Daily cancelling all our plans but thankfully hubby was able to get his well deserved chill in the hot tub. When we did get out we had dinner at Recruiting Sergeant Coltishall. Fabulous food and lovely pub with some nice seating out back. Bure River Cottage fish restaurant very good. Must book, gets full very quickly (Horsey). Ferry Inn Horning nice sitting on the water. Hilary what a fabulous job you did designing The Cartshed. It has everything and more anyone would need. Although it took a while before I met you both Colin kept telling me how wonderful and helpful you were. The goodies you left were a real treat, home grown produce for us when we got home, was wonderful. It was lovely to chat with you both this evening. Your gardens are beautiful. We will definitely be back to see more of Norfolk. Thank you.

A wonderful and relaxing break at Cartshed Lodge. 5 star accommodation and everything we needed. Really enjoyed the hot tub and chilling out on our return after a day out. Thank you to Hilary and Russell for being so welcoming and the scrumptious biscuits, eggs, apple juice and bundle of apples which we will use to make apple crumble on our return home. We were so lucky with the weather. Hired a boat from Sutton Staithe as recommended, and spent a few hours on The Broads which was so peaceful and relaxing, and moored up at the side of an old windmill for our picnic lunch. Went on a seal trip with Beans Boats from Morston Quay - well worth doing - saw so many seals. Visited Holkham beach which was stunning and the town of Burnham Market. Train trip on the Bure Valley steam railway and Miniature World in Wroxham. We'll be back to Norfolk as so much more to do.

Our second visit to this lovely lodge and we've had amazing weather. We borrowed bikes one day and cycled to Aylsham alone the Bure Valley Railway, and then onto Marriot's Way all the way to Reepham (and back!) The hot tub was very welcome that evening. Also visited Felbrigg Hall, Blickling Estate, and the very interesting RAF Radar Museum, which is only an hour walk away. We also recommend the walk in the information folder which you can start from the lodge. More chickens this year and we enjoyed their eggs for breakfast. We are returning home with Norfolk cider and apple juice from Wroxham Barns (a short walk away), and jam and marmalade from Mrs. Marmalade (on the way to Wroxham).
