What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kim - Verified booking

Myself and my husband stayed in red kite lodge for a mini break and we couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Upon arrival we were a little confused at first as sykes cottages had provided us with a key code but no other instructions, so we did spend a good few minutes looking around outside for a place where keys might be stored, until I tried the door and found it was open anyway. When we got inside it was evident it was going to be a lovely stay as the lodge was immaculately clean. We had brought a few things that we may have needed but there was no need as many things were provided for us including tea, coffee, sugar, hand wash, washing up liquid, shampoo, body wash and towels, and a well stocked cupboard of various pots and pans, cutlery, bowls, different size plates you name it, it was there. You could tell a lot of effort had gone into making the lodge as homely as possible and the bread, milk and cake was a nice welcome too. We met Julie on our first night and Kev on our last night as they come around each day to check the hot tub, they were both very friendly and welcoming, and both let us know they were available if we needed anything which was nice. The hot tub was definitely one of our highlights, it was all set up ready to go and was the perfect temperature and because it is undercover we could use it even though the weather wasn't great. The animals are quite literally on your door step, and come upto the lodge every morning (at many other times throughout the day) bellowing at you to feed them haha! You only had to walk outside and they all come running which was funny to see but so adorable, those goats and alpacas sure can eat! And they wasn't the only animals, they have wooly sheep but they mostly kept to themselves, was nice to watch them though. We also had a random cat come to the lodge, absolutely gorgeous but took a serious liking to us and kept trying to come inside for hours on end, it soon gave up when we went to bed. Sadly the only downside was the WiFi was very hit and miss, it was fine for casually scrolling on our phones but we were unable to make full use of the streaming services due to buffering issues, but that was literally the only negative of the place and wasn't that big a deal to us really, just a point to note. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful break. My only wish is that we could have stayed longer, but next time we hope to stay at least a week and in spring/summer time so we can enjoy the surrounding areas a bit more.

I honestly can’t rate Manor Farm Lodges and the Red Kite Lodge highly enough.

I absolutely loved every second there. The lodge is clean, tidy, well equipment with absolutely everything you could need and we were welcomed with a beautiful lemon cake, break and milk so we could have a cuppa and cake the minute we arrived. The views are spectacular! Even in the rain, because of the under covered area, we could still sit outside and enjoy it all or chill out in the well maintained hot tub. The goats, alpacas, sheep and chickens came over for food every day. Provided by Julie & Kev, our hosts who we couldn’t have asked for better. Friendly, helpful and quick to respond when we had a question. We had a couple of trips down the hill to the pub, The Bull & Heifer, which had one of the nicest Sunday Roasts I’ve had in a long time. (Booking essential). As animals lovers I personally couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to stay and I will 100% be booking to go back again. There are loads of things to do within around an hours drive and despite the weather being a bit rubbish we had an awesome week and that was all down to the location and set up of the lodges. You have so much privacy and it has to be one of the most tranquil places I’ve been. Thank you again to Julie and Kev, you have thought it all out perfectly. It is a very special place you have there.

      What a charming cabin!

We needed a relaxing weekend break and we couldn't have asked for more - gorgeous views of the valleys, countryside, not to mention all the baby lambs we saw on the drive in/out! The interior of the cabin feels immensely fresh and stylish, with so much attention to detail, and a full range of cutlery and utensils which was fab! There is mobile signal and wifi which was an added bonus though still feel so disconnected from the rest of the world which is exactly what we were hoping for. The hosts were lovely to meet and very quick to answer any questions! The cabins are easy to find so long as you follow the directions correctly. So many wonderful places to explore. Our small dog and toddler were able to play at their leisure in the enclosed garden. There is a second cabin too which if travelling in bigger groups would make a great additional space, as well as an extra hot tub! The hot tub was especially relaxing and very easy to work. We will definitely be returning! You will not regret staying here, thank you so much for having us ♡

We have just got from a great week from here.

we stayed in the red kite lodge.x We arrived to a lovely homemade chocolate cake. Julie popped into us on the first night to make sure all was ok and to let us know if we needed anything she and kev were available to help. The lodge had everything you can think of to make it like home. Bread, milk ,tea and coffee was also left for us. kids had a great time looking for Katie the red kite which had a chocolate for them as a prize.x The animals added to the lodge as the kids had a great time waking up to them and feeding them carrots daily. Kev took the kids around the farm on his quad and explained to the kids about everything. He did this more than once. They provide a book which gives you all details on places to visit. , also places to eat. We were there for our 15th wedding anniversary ,so we tried dinner at the local which is about a 10 minute walk and we was not disappointed. We enjoyed it so much we already booked to go back before we had even left. Thank you for making our week a great memory. See you next year.x

We have stayed in a number of cottages over the years, but I have to say that our stay here was without doubt THE perfect break that we have always been looking for!

The most wonderful hosts you could ever wish to meet, made us feel completely at ease and extremely welcome. As for the cottage itself, we have never found our all perfect cottage, until we came across this beautiful and idyllic place. Perfectly set within a wooded area, looking out onto hilly forests and mature trees. But our delight was in the particular wildflower area directly outside our lodge. With the serenity and the beauty of the wildlife that it attracted was truly a most beautiful source of much needed relaxation to us both. We spent the majority of our evenings sitting outside in front of the chimnea having drinks and listening to the wildlife until the early hours. We have never experienced or enjoyed a holiday so peaceful and relaxing as this, and we didn’t realise how much we needed to until we got here! We cannot recommend this lodge highly enough, especially for people wanting to recharge and get away from it all! We most definitely will return and look forward to it!
