What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mr Hayes - Verified booking

We have just spent the most wonderful week at High Green Cottage which I discovered by accident when researching my family history in the area. I Googled High Green thinking I was researching a farm, when this lovely cottage popped up. The cottage is set on the village green in Langthwaite, Arkengarthdale. I believe it is made from two cottages knocked into one and was originally built in the 1600s but in the 18th/19th centuries was used by lead miners and farm workers, so lots of history there. The owners have done a wonderful job in making this cottage into a lovely home base for exploring the area. The living room is a nice size, with three comfortable sofas around a wood burning fire - very cozy and a dining table at the end closest the kitchen. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and there was nothing I needed that I couldn't find in the cupboards. There is a dishwasher and washing machine with detergent supplied if needed. There are four bedrooms, three double and one single, all very new and very comfortable. The single room is entered via an office, the desk by the window overlooking the fields and moorland at the back of the property - my daughter liked that room very much. Double room at the back has a small ensuite which is useful. Master bedroom overlooks the green and moorland which is stunning. All in all a fabulous place to spend some down time in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. The owners are very friendly and made the effort to communicate with us both before our visit and afterwards to make sure our stay was satisfactory. I am already recommending it to family and friends. There is enough parking outside for your car - at one point we had three cars parked outside with no problem. I have no hesitation in recommending this cottage.

Lovely house. Fantastic views. Lovely walks from the viaduct about mile down the road. On a tiny lane that is pretty with lovely neighbours who are really helpful and Friendly. The main rd at end of lane is very busy and fast. air ambulances whilst we where there , neighbours do say regular occurrence so please try not to walk on the road. Surrounding villages are beautiful all car journey away but worth a visit. Fab views of steam train from the garden. If you are travelling a long way and want a brew and biscuit on arrival before you unpack make sure you keep your biscuits / cake handy , welcome pack is one tea bag one coffee bag each plus small amount of milk. House very comfortable garden views stunning. Garden to front where views are not dog proof very low walls , also no access this way as gate opens into neighbours garden. Not a problem for us. Back is main access from the lane into back yard. Table and bench here if you want to eat outside. Wooden bench in lovely front looking towards great views and railway. Overall a lovely house , comfortable, well equipped. Marvellous views of steam, lovely neighbours , busy road at end of lane you need to travel by car , and keep your biscuits and brew stuff handy for your recovery on arrival

This is a really beautiful house in a gorgeous part of the dales. The accommodation is everything you could wish for - comfortable beds, nice shower and lots of room to spend time together as well as apart. My teenage son particularly liked the sofa by the back door! The kitchen is very well equipped and we were left a very generous welcome pack of wine and biscuits and Yorkshire tea, which was much appreciated. We loved the books and the games. The village is quiet, with lots of walks from the front door, which the owner has very thoughtfully detailed in a comprehensive but very readable information book (which was also provided as a PDF on booking, which is genius really, and allowed us to refer to things when we were on our travels). We had to contact the owner on one occasion about a minor operational issue with the house (or rather my understanding of it) and he was very friendly and helpful. We had a really glorious week here as a family. It really is a lovely house in a lovely situation and I would highly recommend it to others.

This property has to rate as one of the best we have ever experienced in nearly fifty years of self catering holidays. Beautifully renovated the house is spacious, welcoming, warm and so well equipped. The roll-top free standing bath was a fabulous indulgence after a long day out walking. Our eleven year old granddaughter was delighted with the single split level bedroom/office complete with walk-in wardrobe. The welcome tray is a lovely touch and reflects the care and consideration shown by the owners. We spent many hours in front of the log burner, playing boardgames and enjoying a drink or two in the evening. For those who enjoy the spectacle of dark skies and stargazing this is the place for you. Arkengarthdale and Swaledale are truly impressive places and the information from the owners regarding walks was outstanding. Our family ages range from eleven to seventy eight and there was some thing for everyone. We do not hesitate to recommend the property and we will certainly be returning.

    • Mrs Metheringham - Verified booking

Seven of us spent a short break over New Year at High Green Cottage. The cottage was everything we could have wished it to be. It was spotlessly clean, had everything we needed and was very cosy and warm. The cottage is in a very pretty, small village with two pubs within easy walking distance. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t always kind during our stay, but this just gives us a good excuse to go back! The scenery is truly stunning. We love walking and we were spoilt for choice. We got out and about during the days and spent the evenings cosied up in front of the log burner playing games. On New Years Eve, we cooked a 3 course meal and the kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed. We ranged from 10 years old to 56 years old and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it and all agreed that we would love to come back….maybe to see it during the summer months sometime! I don’t hesitate to recommend this property, it’s a beauty.

    • Are the Yorkshire Dales worth visiting?

Absolutely, the Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire are definitely worth visiting. Known for their breathtaking landscapes, charming villages, and rich cultural heritage, the Dales offer a fantastic experience for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, hikers, and those who enjoy walking. The region's rolling hills, limestone formations, picturesque valleys, and traditional stone-built villages make it a captivating destination to explore and a walker's paradise.

    • How do you spend a day in Yorkshire Dales?

To spend a day in the Yorkshire Dales, you can start by exploring one of the scenic dales like Wensleydale or Swaledale, taking in the stunning landscapes and a picturesque village or two along the way. You can then embark on a hike or walk to enjoy the natural beauty, visit attractions such as Bolton Castle or Aysgarth Falls, and end the day by sampling local delicacies at a traditional pub or tea room before returning to your holiday cottage.

    • Where is a great base for Yorkshire Dales?
